I know how to get large lines (with a hard pull)-- but I'm specifically interested in this thread: "CLI Without a Hard Pull"
Over the years I have had great luck with auto increases on Citi and AMEX, but they seem to have stopped now and I'm wondering if there is a limit above which they don't work (just like AMEX reallocation online stopped working)
I've searched on both those threads and don't see any info on Auto increases.
Thanks! |

I just saw Snyder's answer.
Thanks. I assume it's the same for Citi then. |

Does AMEX conduct a hard pull from the CLI button if you are asked to put in annual income? I'm seeing conflicting information from numerous boards, so I thought I'd ask y'all.

AMEX has recently redone their entire CLI page. You will NOT get a hard pull for putting in your income. It is a new short form, unlike the old one. It is unclear whether you can even get luv anymore, since I haven't heard of anyone being 'preapproved' by AMEX anymore. You enter your new CL you want and your income and it will immediately give it to you, or if you are too high, it will give you a counter offer. Some people (but very few) are given a message that they will get notice in 7-10 days, in which a short pull is done. But BE VERY CAREFUL. Creditboards.com has been flooded with people getting huge lines (ie. getting all of their AMEX cards to 25k) then they are being hit with financial review. It seems the new system is VERY easy to get high cli, but it does come at a price. If you do it, be very modest. |

Does anyone think that higher utilization on a particular card might help with CLIs? In other words, will creditors be more likely to give you a CLI if they see you are using nearly your entire credit line, but paying off the balance in full every month?
I recently got approved for a CLI on a card from citibank even though I'm carrying >90% on my other citicards. I don't carry any balance on the card for which I got the increase and I'm wondering if I got the increase because I charged almost the full credit limit of the card this month. |

This strategy has worked well for me. When I've used 90% of a credit line in a month then paid in full, I've found that the CSRs (and their computers) were quite receptive to my CLI request. It works particularly well if you have other higher credit limits and you can say "Well, I'd like to put more charges on your card, but if you don't raise my limit, I'll have to go and use my card from <insert competitor bank name> since it has a higher limit." |

Well the CLI button on the AMEX site wasnt too friendly so I decided to call in using their automated system.
AMEX Blue Cash (opened 2 weeks): Initial = $9000, I asked for $15,000 and got it! AMEX Blue (opened 1 day): Initial = $8000, I asked for $13,000 and got it!
I <3 AMEX..hahahahaah |

Alright guys. Capital One is increasing limits now without a hard pull. 1-800-889-9939. It's a person not a computer, but it's very easy to get credit increases; however most are small (ie. $500-$1000 increase). |

I paid AMEX in full for the late balance on condition that the negative info be removed. It hadn't gone to an external collections agency and was within 90 days of the original due date (or maybe 120 days -- they told me that one of those two was the cut-off for getting the info removed). They just removed the account entirely from my credit reports. |

has anyone tried the new bank of america CLI online?
I can't tell if it is going to require a hard pull or not. The verbiage is unclear. The previous one did not do a hard pull.
In factoring our decision for a credit line increase on a personal account, your account performance and credit status will be reviewed. This request will not result in an inquiry to your credit report unless you are notified that it is required, and the decision will not have any impact on your credit history.
To request an increased line of credit, complete the form and click the "Request Credit Line Increase" button. By clicking the "Request Credit Line Increase" button, you authorize Bank of America to review your credit and employment histories and any other information in order to process this application, service your account and manage our relationship with you. |

I saw a post someware that a guy kept his old Capital One card open becuase it was the first card he opened. I've heard this before, about the average time your cards have been opened and such. I called today and spoke with Bank of America, regarding 3 card my wife opened, one a Platinum Plus account, one from MBNA and her very first card with BofA. When asking about merging the credit lines, I asked the CSR about merging them, wanting to keep the Platinum Plus card, but not wanting to loose the longest card on my wifes credit history, she told me she didn't look at how long the card was opened when she approved new card, lines, or increases, people close them for all sorts of reasons, all she looks at is when the first card was opened, and how someone used it. What do you guy's think?? |

There is a difference between your credit score and your credit profile. Having older accounts increases your score, that's just a simple fact. But being approved for credit in a lot of situations doesn't only rely on your credit score (this can really vary as to what they are looking for), conversely many times it's "all about the score". |

If you close your 'first' account, over time it will age off, and disappear, and your 2nd oldest account will now appear to be your oldest, rinse and repeat and eventually you have a much thinner history than you would have if you didn't close any cards. |

just got a 5k increase on an AMEX blue cash. Requested 35k, but got 25k, with a request to fax docs if I want the full 35k I was denied a CLI about 6 weeks ago, for multiple reasons. Just paid off the 97% utilized card, and waited for the credit to show available to request CLI. Checked my credit, no hard pull. I also just canceled my personal AMEX Gold Charge card, between the 2 CLI requests. My WAMU Fico 656 on 12/1 for high utilization. The AMEX was open in May on my last AOR. I got an unasked for CLI on my BofA card (a whopping $900) I have not seen anything on my Barx (juniper), US Bank, Discover, or chase. Requested CLI for Citi, instant denial. |
