Just got my first CLI from Chase (Student credit)
I know some of you guys may think it's rediclous that i have 3 credit cards (student, 18) but i need them all since they only gave me $500-$600 credit on each. My utilization is normally 200% my CL (monthly basis, pay it off before it's due)(Always paid off in full)
Chase: $500 (7/23-->12/23)---->$1000 BOA: $600 Capital One: $500
So what should be my next course of action? (Or did i already screw up by having so many cards...?) |

(Or did i already screw up by having so many cards...?)3 cards is not "bad" at age 18 - especially since you PIF. My only advice is that you make sure to PIF before the reporting date - which is not necessarily the due date. You can have a zero balance because you always PIF before the due date; but still show 200% utilization - which means your vigilance goes for naught. |

I talked with BofA a couple weeks ago (12/12). We have 4 Cards with them. Requested a CLI on 3 of them. First two didn't require a hard pull - (1) 5K to 10K (2) 14K to 16.5K - Third they told me they would have to do a hard pull becuase the account was less then 6 months old. I agreed as my credit is rather good and a hard pull wouldn't effect me too much, and they denied my CLI on the grounds that I had a collection account. So I pull my Experian report and there was a collection on there for, get this, $10. Apparently when we moved a couple months ago to our new house, I had a medical bill that wasn't fully paid by Insurance, leaving me with a $10 balance, which I didn't know about untill now. Then I find out my wife paid it when she found the collection letter in our boxes of mail from the other house. How wonderful that I know have a "Key Derogatory" on my report. I submitted a dispute with experian, transunion, and equifax. Experian "Updated" my report and put "Paid", transunion removed it from my report, and so did equifax. So Now I'm sitting with a transunion score of 755, an experian of 675, and a equifax of 743. BofA told me that the collection was no big deal because of it being so small, but becuase it was not showing as paid (At the time I called them for the CLI), he wasn't going to give me the increase, and advised me to pay it, and call back in 3 months. So after a few weeks of rattling my brain trying to figure out how I missed this bill, I decided to apply for a few more credit cards.
Chase - We already have 3 cards - Applied for "Freedom" and was denied, I'll get a letter in the mail. They pulled Experian Capital One - Have 2 cards - Denied - They checked Trans, Experian, and Equifax, and I'll get a letter in the mail. Citi - Never had a card with them - They pulled an equifax and approved instantly for $9K on a Drivers Edge card. Discover Card - Have 1 Card already - They pulled Equifax - Instant approval for $15K.
So I got screwed out of 2 cards, and got another $24K in credit. What a month.
2006 left me with 6 less family members, 3 less friends (In Jail for Vandalism), a Vandalized Mercedes, Town Car, and Silverado (What I get for asked for my money back I lent 3 friends), and a collection on my credit report. However I also got married this year and we had our first baby girl.
About me: 25 years old, Native American, Works for, and recieves revenue share from my tribes casino. 23 Credit Cards with an average limit of $13K. First credit card when I was 18. |

I decided to call BofA back and argue with them. After about 35 minutes on the phone, talking to their credit department, and finally getting supervisor on the phone, they, in their infanent wisdom, increased my card by, a spectacular, whopping, $300. A couple days after I applied for the Chase Freedom card, I checked my accounts online with them. They had decreased all of my credit limits by $3K ($9K Total Reduction). So I called them up and they told me it was becuase I had a collection account reported on my report. So they transfered me to some special department, and after a 5 minute chat about my credit report, the lady restored my credit limits. What a year! |

I have citi dividend (7.7K) and citi platinum (8.9K). I have a fico score of 702 and I applied to citi professional online. I've got a call from citi saying that they can issue the new card only with a limit of just 1k saying that my annual income (52K) will not allow me to more than 13K. I've had to re-adjust my dividend CL to 2.6k so my new card limit will be 6.5k. |

The answer is yes, AMEX's CreditSecure website is down right now, I can provide this info later tonight.
I recently did two CLI's with Citi Dividend and Chase Freedom/PerfectCard, both pulled from Experian only, I'll double check this tonight. I like AMEX better, it increased my CL to $30K on the website (without a hard pull).
Edit: that's correct, Experian only for those two cards I mentioned previously. |

Last night I called Chase and ask them which one would they pull in order to get a CLI; the lady (very rude by the way) told me that they pull all three. NO THANKS.... |

When I called chase, I asked who they pull from, and the rather impatient person told me they pull from Equifax, so I agreed, then I found out they pulled experian. |

This is highly YMMV. It is generally dependent on a combination of the issuer, where you are located, and sometimes even which card/when you apply. I've had both Citi and Chase vary as far as which CRA they pulled for me. In my last AOR everyone pulled Experian, but when I had applied for a couple of Chase cards six months prior to that they pulled Equifax. Citi pulled TransUnion when I had applied for a CLI five months prior to the AOR. |

It varies regionally. Check out the Credit Pulls Database at creditboards. You can see people's results based on which state they reside in. Good for a baseline reference of what to expect, but don't hold it as gospel, because there will be exceptions. |

I requested CLI's for my cards in anticipation of my upcoming AOR.
In brief, I called three card companies:
AMEX Student card limit was increased from 2.5k to 6.5k (I asked for 6.5k). Don't know whether they pulled or not ... happened online.
Charles Schwab FIA MBNA card limit increased from 2.5k to 7.5k. Asked for "maximum available" on the phone. No hard pull on this one.
Chase Amazon: Called two times, both CSR's told me they must do a hard pull to do a CLI. |

Denied by Citi for "soft" CLI. I have 3 Citi cards with about 40% utilization on each account making only monthly minimum payments. After 6 months and CLI request, the website says:
"We regret that we cannot approve your request for a Credit Line Increase at this time. Your request was processed by a credit scoring system, which assigns a numerical value to various items on your credit card account(s) with us. Your credit score did not meet our requirements, because:
Your payments have been low on one or more of your accounts with us.
Your balance is high on one or more of your accounts with us, compared to the total credit limit.

What is the strategy for Chase? They do a hard for every CLI request. |

Recently emailed Chase to increase my two card limits. I sent a message about each card, didn't ask for both in the same email. I've never had more than $4k on either one and both had $0 balances at time of request.
The current limit was $20,000 I asked to be raised to $30,000 - no reason really. They came back a day later with a $35,000 limit! So now I have $70k available with Chase.
I did a similiar request with Citi, asked for an increase from $13,200 to $20,000 and they came back at $22,400 limit. I think having a $0 balance helps a lot. |
