Heads up for Citi. Clicked "Credit Line increase" and got form; clicked cancel. Citi took it upon themselves to do a hard pull not once, but twice.

oh crap. I did CLI for 4 of my Citi cards today. All 4 result in the form. I didn't even click the cancel but just navigated to another page.

I have 4 too and just check occasionally to see if auto increases are there. For some reason, only the form cancelation on the Dividend card went through.

I do the CLI every day just to see if I will get the form, and I've never received a hard pull from Citi... Well, except for when I applied for the Associated Bank card!

I've never clicked cancel, either navigated away or closed the page.

same here. I didn't even bother to scroll the page once I saw that dreadful form. I just click somewhere on the top to move to the next card.

Yup, got the letter, no CLI within 6 mo of the last one. I'm not sure when my last one was, since I don't use the card, my online statements aren't available to see when it was increased. I'll have to keep trying I guess!

Where is the cancel button? I've never clicked on it (don't know where it is), but I have navigated to that page several times (as in like, dozens) the past week or so trying to get the no-form CLI request. I should be okay, right?

The last several times (spread over the past year) that I've gone to the CLI page, I get "the form." I think I've both navigated away and clicked cancel, and I've never gotten a hard pull. But after each time I visit the page, Citi sends me a letter describing why they won't give me a CLI based on an internal review. (The primary reason is my $17k 0% for life balance that I'm not paying down )

Same here, I actually looked last time and didn't see it. My new Associated Bank's CLI screen looks different from my other Citi cards, though. (same site) I think there is an error on the site for some.

Got the heads up from creditboards.

If you log into your Penfed account and get a preapproved offer for a credit card. You can accept the offer and it gives you the option to add the approved credit line to an existing card. A member on there talked to a CR and confirmed there was no hard pull.

The website isn't working properly so you can't use the "accept" link under the credit card picture; the next page doesn't work. You have to use the "view all offers" link under the customize picture and select credit card offers.

Data point

Asked USBank for CLI from 10,400 to 11,100, 10k in AOR. With the first payment, this increase took me below 89% utilization.

Since it was a new card, and CLI within 30 days, they did not pull a hard.

So far, it's my largest credit limit.

Thanks for the heads up! I logged into my PenFed account and was also offered a new card or increasing the CL on my existing card with the CL offered ($10,400), so I opted for the increase in my existing CL. Went from $30,000 to $40,400.

By the way, the CSRs over the phone do not see the pre-approved offers on their screens/computers so it's a web-only feature on your account and they can't do it over the phone.

I have been clicking on the Citibank CLI request option and been seeing the form for years but I have yet to receive a single hard pull for it.

I got three cards with Citi:
Citi Dividend World: 9.6k
Citi Professional: 4.8k
Citi PremierPass Elite - 3.6k

I got forms on all of them. Decided to call it in and see if they would give me an increase on any of them. They gave me a 1.5k increase on the Professional card, and that's it, which is a joke. I may not spend much on any of these cards, but I've been with CitiBank for around four/five years now.

I got a preapproved offer a week or two back and bumped my CL from 6K to 44K. No hard pull.

pras.

fattykokoya said:WAMU - Always hard through form. Call in for no-hard possible CLI.

I have two WAMU credit cards and I called in but there is no way to increase my credit limit upon customer request. And they dont allow reallocation of credit limit between cards either.

Where do you see that "form"? I am using www.wamucards.com for online mgt, but forgive my ignorance, i don't see that form... or is there a special calling center for that?? Because WAMU only pull my TU and i dont really care if it's a hard . Any similar experience? Thanks!

I too have tried to request a CLI (not caring whether hard). The email correspondence I have received validates what a couple others have mentioned so I'm going to update the QS:
2008-02-28 I said:I'm considering transferring a balance to this card from another issuer. The amount I'm considering transferring exceeds my current available credit limit for this card. Is there an option to increase my credit line WITHOUT a hard credit inquiry on any of my credit bureau reports?2008-02-28 THEY said:Please be advised that any credit bureau inquiry we may initiate after your account is opened is a 'soft' inquiry and does not affect your credit score. Keep in mind that these inquiries show only on credit reports you obtain, they do not appear on credit reports obtained by prospective lenders. These inquiries may be listed on your credit bureau report as a 'promotional inquiry'.
Unfortunately, we do not process credit line increases by customer request. We do periodically review your account. If your account qualifies for a higher credit line, we will notify you by mail and the increase will be reflected on your monthly statement.
Please keep in mind that our review process evaluates several factors including:
1. A timely payment history with us and other lenders.
2. Staying within your credit limit.
3. No Returned checks (due to insufficient funds).
4. The age of your account.

edit: modified a couple pronouns
