I guess this should be under "free stuff" but I think it is kind of warmish.
If you know for a fact this is not a good deal, please post your opinion.
Here are the main points. Read the fine prints. Seems like a good deal. 1. Stop by your local branch by June 30, 2005, open a new Chase Free Checkingsm; with direct deposit and a $500 minimum deposit 2. Mail the redemption coupon your banker provides. 3. Sign up for FREE Online Bill Payment. 4. Pay two unique bills by August 30, 2005.
u dont have to sign up for direct deposit. you can sign up for an account which requires greater initial funding and that will take away the requirement for direct deposit

NOTE: Open a new Chase Free Checkingsm account with direct deposit by 6/30/05. Requires $500 new money (funds not currently held at Chase or Bank One or any of its afilliates). Without monthly direct deposit, monthly average balance qualifiers apply to avoid monthly maintenance and per-transaction fees. Limit one personal checking account-related award/premium per customer, per calendar year. Offer not available for account conversions or in combination with any other offer. You will receive coupon to redeem reward by mail. Coupon must be postmarked by 7/31/05, or it will be considered expired and all rights to the reward will be forfeited. Online payments must be paid from new checking account at www.Chase.com between 6/1/05 and 8/30/05, and be paid to two new unique payees. Payments previously made to a payee outside of the offer window will not be considered new. One iPod shuffle per customer. Please allow 8—10 weeks for delivery of reward. Checking account must remain open for six months or the value of the reward will be debited from the account at closing. Reward may be considered interest reportable on IRS Form 1099 - INT.

What does this have to do with credit cards? This is a checking account.

I signed up for this on Monday. This also applies to BankOne. If your employer is in their system, you qualifies for BankOne At Work Checking and the initial deposit is only $100. It's a good deal, there is no minimum balance as long as you do DD, so you can withdraw your initial deposit immediately.
Anybody know any specifics as to the 2 payment requirements? I mean can i send $1 a piece to 2 of my family members? I read through the fine print and everything as it was in a few newspapers, but no mention.
Is their online bill payment secure enough? I'm the type that's wary of putting any of my bank information on a website. and does chase charge anything to close a checking account, provided that I want to do so after the 6 months?

I got questions here. Can you open a Chase Free Checking with DD account at BankOne Branch. If not, Which BankOne account is eligible for this promotion?

Called my chase, YOU HAVE TO SIGN UP FOR DIRECT DEPOSIT.
I have done this with other offers with bankone who is now Chase. Paypal is considered direct deposit I have a 1.00 put in my checking account every month that works and it prevents any fees.

I signed up. From what the banker told me, if you don't have DD, they charge monthly fees for the checking acct. But, they said to call them to waive any fees.
The part that worried me was getting the Visa Debit card. The last time I went over my credit report, I had a bank one visa debit taht showed up as a credit card that I closed. I tried telling them that I didn't want it. They said I could cancel it ASAP or never activate it and I should be ok.

Do I have to go to their office and do it?
I don't have Chase/BankOne around.
Thanks!

I went to a local Bankone and a lady told me Paypal is not considered as DD I asked if I could deposit more than $500 to avoid DD. But still got the answer "NO". I really hate DD now. Any other way to be eligible for DD?

You don't have to keep the initial deposit in the account to qualify, you can take all of the initial deposit out as soon as you opened the account. For BankOne, you just need to open a "One Checking" account, no minimum balance and no fee as long as you DD and 2 bill pay, $500 initial deposit. BankOne also has BankOne at Work Checking if your company qualifies, which then only need $100 initial deposit. That's what I did on Monday. I just found out that BankOne is actually coming to my company next week to sign people up for this promotion without any initial deposit requirement.

Opened the account. Chase chick even sent in the form for me Thanks OP.
btw you may want to update the topic to include the word "chase" for easier searches.

for folks without direct deposit, it's a $6/month fee.
Which is cheap, considering retail IPOD (512MB) is about $95. So, if you kept the account for a year, it's $72.
Unless there's a way to get around the direct deposit deal. Someone please advise.

read the same on other threads beyond the DD thread. ie paypal counts as DD. fortunately my employer allows you to change your DD info online and to portion it out via %age or $ amounts. i currently have three DD going to my citi, bank one and bofa accounts. too bad i did the bankone deal for the $75 credit earlier. i guess i cant get the ipod now. poo!. will ask anyway and see what they say at the local branch.

Do they make you buy a box of checks?
During one of the $50 promotions, I called my local Bank One branch and they said I had to buy a box of checks for $16.25.

just curious how Paypal DD would work. I have a paypal account, and I've only received funds. I've never dealt with DD through paypal.
ablang said: This is separate from the Citi promotion right? The one where you have to pay two bills every month for a year, and keep like $1500+ in the account?
Darn. No local bank in Sacramento within 30 miles.

should have done the shuffle before the 31st. the fine print says nothing about existing customers not being eligible but would've been the safer bet since the $75 offer says "one per calender year". depends on whether your bank CSR is willing to work with you and let you open both.
from a prev $75 offer, you usually get it in a week or so. definitely better if you want immediate gratification.
UPDATE - did the shuffle offer in Dec and did the $$ signup in jan. no problems and got both offers.
