Interesting. Can you elaborate more if you have done this yourself? |

I noticed on the link to that account they changed the wording. It use to say to call with your invitation number, now it say's this:
Q: Can I apply by phone? A: Of course, we would be happy to take your application over the phone. Please call 1-888-426-1114 for credit card applications.
I called the number and was told I could apply and no invitation # needed. I did not apply as I just got my Chase 5%. I do have the 1% Cash Back RBS card so might call and see about just changing that one. The RBS Cash Back is very simple as they send me a check very month with my statement and no cap on it. |

Has anyone had any experience in using this card for PayPal, specifically eBay, purchases? What merchant category do PayPal purchases post under and do they qualify for 3%. I'm currently using the BofA Power Rewards card to pay for roughly $20,000 in monthly purchases. An extra 1% would be nice. |

I just applied without an invitation number on the phone. It takes 2 week to 30 days to get the results. |

I called and was told that I could not apply for CustomCash by phone or online without the special invite. What number did you call?
I am really intrigued by this card ..... |

"NO CAP"? Wow, that will be nice!
PS: Does Staples fall down to any of the categories?

From the website:
"For every $100 dollars you spend in your top Merchant Category, you earn 3 CustomCash points for the month. You also earn 1 CustomCash point for every $100 dollars you spend in the other Merchant Categories."
This would seem to imply that you get the same cash-back points if your monthly spending is $601, and $699.
So, while the benefits of this card are great, the rounding-down they do means you have to keep a close eye on your spending... |

So, while the benefits of this card are great, the rounding-down they do means you have to keep a close eye on your spending... Seems they were just using that as an example of 3 points per every $100 as they also say you earn a full 3%. Go to the link and click on "About CashRewards" and they show an example of $310 in grocery gets you $9.30 back. Q: How do I earn Cash Back with the new RBS CustomCash Rewards card? A: You will earn a full 3% in CustomCash points on purchases in the Merchant Category you spent the most money each month. Plus, you earn a full 1% in CustomCash points on purchases in all other Merchant Categories. So you get rewarded every time you use your card. |

Could not find Staples listed in their examples but did see that OfficeMax was "Specialty Retailers" so would think that would also apply to Staples. Also I think my RBS card had no cap but it seems this one is $300 per month, Still pretty good. |

I am really intrigued by this card ..... I called 1-888-426-1114 but did not apply, The CSR seemed annoyed when I told her I did not want to apply after she told me I could with no invite. If that's the number you called I would advise just keep calling till you get a CSR who will let you |

I called 1-888-426-1114 but they had to transfer me to the application department. I did this yesterday no problem, without an invitation code. They told me it would take up to 30 days for a decision.
When you call the number, tell them that you want to apply for the MC and they should transfer you to the application dept.
Maybe the next person to apply can ask for the correct "direct" number for the application dept. |

I called a few months ago. CSR asked if i had a code...i said no..she said i could apply anyway. so i apply, then my card comes, but it's the wrong card. just the standard no rewards card. i call and complain and they say i needed an invite code for the Cash Back card so i was sent the non-rewards card.. i said but the CSR never said that, she let me apply. they said they would have to listen to the tape of the call and get back to me. Finally hear back and she agreed that the rep did let me apply for that card without an invite, but that there was nothing she could do. I said "why did you listen to the tape to see what the CSR said and find out I was right, but still not give me the card?" she didnt have an answer and said there was no manager I could speak to. I was just annoyed that I got a credit inquiry and no card.
In summary: be careful. |

We just called to try to get another account for my wife (I have my own) and they asked for the code. I said we didn't have one. They asked how we heard about it. I said I had my own, but we wanted to keep our accounts separate. She said, sorry she can't apply without an invite code.
I said fine then, let me just get an extra card for her, and as she typed it up she mentioned that a lot of people were calling in for it because of a posting online. I said "Really, is that so.". She said, "yah, some site called FatWallet, if you google "RBS CustomCash" you can read it.
The Fatwallet effect strikes again. I suspect those that are applying without one are going to get the wrong card - be warned. |

I called in three times yesturday to try to get the card. No go. They did try to get me to apply for the standard card with no rewards, which is what I suspect has happened to others. They go through all the terms with no mention of WHAT card it is hoping you won't notice. I'd like to hear if anyone actually RECEIVES a CustomCash card without having had a reservation. |

I hate when a CSR says that. Whenever a CSR tells me that there is no supervisor available I say, "Really? So you're the sole person in charge of the entire company right now? Are you the CEO?". Then they say "no" and I say "Then put me in contact with whoever is above you." |
