Any update from recent applicants? I am very hungry for this card. But given all the warnings, it seems I'd better sit and wait at this moment. |

My card came yesterday. BUT, as predicted it was the regular Platinum card not the Custom Cash card. I called and told them they sent me the wrong card. But, they said I needed an invitation code to get it. I told them I didn't have a code (may have lost it), but they said that I must have it to get the Custom Cash card. I asked them how I could get an invitation. They said you must be pre-selected based on certain critia (they wouldn't tell me what it was).
I told them I didn't want the card without the Custom Cash. They didn't try to keep me as a customer, and just closed the account.
Don't bother with this unless you have an invite. Now, we just need to figure out how to get an invite. |

Even if you get the invite, it doesn't mean you'll get the card. My husband got the invite and was declined. A short time later he got an invite for a Providian card, applied, and got a $30K CL. Go figure. |

Yes, we need to get on that mailing list.
Why is this card so top-secret? I cant believe they would rater close the account than give you rewards. I guess since you were a brand-new customer and they had yet to make any $$ off of you anyway.

Same thing happened to me. I applied over the phone and specifically told the lady over the phone that I was applying for the Custom Cash card. When I received the card, it turned out to be the Regular one. I called about 3 times trying to switch and finally they transferred me to a lady that contacted what she called the "operations dept." which successfully changed my card. She told me that I will have the same card number, but they will re-issue a new card with the same number. I have to give the CSR that helped me credit because she was very helpful and called me back twice to give me updates on what was happening.
EDIT: I didn't have an invitation number.

That's good news! I think those who didn't get the rewards card which was promised to can try this way too. We need to unite together and fight hard and eventually we will make it! |

Thanks for the thread. This sounds like a great card for planned, big purchases. I just applied for the card without an invitation number. Hopefully I'll be able to convert to the CustomCash too if I end up getting the regular card. BTW, they say to check back for the application status call this number: 877-525-9248. |

Beware, I recently used this card on a large purchase and was only credited 1% instead of 3%, even though it was clearly the merchant category I spent the most. I called RBS to complain and was told that purchases from companies that you haven't bought anything from before don't qualify for 3%.
To give a clarifying example: I bought a new printer and a new laptop from apple in February. The two items showed up as two separate transactions, several weeks apart ($99 for the printer and $2200 for the laptop). Since Apple Computer has never been on any of my previous statements, I only received 1% CashBack for these purchases. On the other hand, if I had purchased a 99c mp3 from Apple in January, then I would have qualified for 3% on my laptop purchase.
Those sneaky bastards. When I get home I'm going to reread my card agreement to verify that the CSR wasn't lying to me. |

The FAQ on their website doesn't mention this at all. Thanks for sharing your experience. Please do let us know of your findings after you reread the card's agreement. |

I have had the card for a while now, and I have never experienced the problem you describe. Unless they changed the terms very recently without any notification, you were misinformed. |

I've never experienced this problem before either and I'm certain that I've gotten 3% back on stores for which I've had no previous transactions. However, the CSR told me what he did and without the member agreement in front of me I couldn't refute it. It's possible that they simply let smaller transactions slip through.
I might not be able to get to my agreement until next week. Can you (or anyone else) look at your member agreement and refute/verify what the CSR told me? |

I just used this card last month to buy an appliance from Abt Electronics and can verify that I received 3% back on that purchase in my latest statement. I had never purchased from Abt Electronics before.
I think it may be possible that the laptop you bought from Apple was classified in a merchant category that did not correspond to the 16 or so merchant categories they have listed. I believe the terms say that you receive 1% on all other purchases.

They claim that almost all merchants correspond to one of the 16 categories. They even list "computer store" as an example. If "Apple Computer" isn't a computer store, then what is?
...I'm calling back RBS right now.
EDIT: Ok. I just got off the phone with another CSR who informed me that large retailers such as WalMart, Apple Computer, etc. are not classified into any category and, therefore, do not qualify for 3%. She cited Section 5 of the card member agreement. I'll post back once I've examined this section myself. |

Applied for this card using 800 number and specifically asked for the custom cash card. I was sent the Platinum card instead. I called to to the "operations department" and several supervisors. Refused to issue or convert to a custom cash card. This is in spite of my insistance that their website
http://customcash.rbsnb.com/applicationfaqs.html
states that no invitation was needed. I don't know how others did it w/o invitation. The CSRs and supervisors were very firm. From my experience don't even attempt. It is a complete waste of time. Will attempt to complain by letter. In my opinion RBS is BS. |

I hope no one minds that I bumped this, but I just received the invitation for this card yesterday. Luckily I decided to do some research here before shredding it -- upon quick perusal it looked like an offer from a subprime lender (no real reason why I thought so, just looked like one of "those" letters). I'm going to have to sign up when I get home tonight.
I've tried to figure out what could have put me on their invitation list, but I honestly couldn't tell you. I've recently been receiving a lot of offers since applying for a couple of Chase cards, but almost all of them have been from Chase. I don't have an account from RBS (and had never even heard of it before FWF), so I know that can't be it.
I just decided to post to let everyone interested know that there are still invitations being sent out. |

Did you ever get this resolved? I'm curious because I'm looking at the website right now (as linked on the first page here) and it shows Wal-Mart under "General Retail" which would seem to indicate that at least that part of the CSR's statement didn't match what the RBS site implies. |

I am jealous of all who have this card. I got a pre-approved offer from RBS today for a 5.99% fixed Platinum card. BUt no rewards. I had never received anything from them prior. I sent a complaint about not being able to get CustomCash through PFB and that probably prompted them to market to me, but still not the card I want! |
