Anyone have experience with Wilmington Trust?

If so, how is the account opening process and the ability to move money?

Link

I wish ING would clone their way to 3.25% or so. A quick look seems like this is a clone...albeit maybe a tad strict. Can't mail in payments other than the first one. It is time for the Dutch to get off their Orange *$$ and up their APY!

Is this for wilmingtontrust, or their new savings website (seems like a seperate business like emigrant direct)?

There is no minimun balance or fees for this 3.35% savings account.

And to the poster who said the 6 transfers can be made out of the account, it's a banking regulation, so it applies to all such accounts, not just for Wilmington Trust.

Is the interest cumulated daily or monthly, if its monthly, then emigrant and this don't have much difference at all.

Stated Rate is 3.35 APR vs. 3.25 APR for emigrant.

I assume that would mean either both are compounded daily or compounded on a avg. balance for the month.

Seems like they have terrible unquilified customer service

As a Delaware resident I can say that Wilmington Trust is a pretty well respected B&M bank around here. I wouldn't say that they typically have the best rates/lowest fees, etc so I'm actually kind of shocked that they would offer such a good rate here. It's possible they're trying to make a play to get into a larger market outside of DE with this. They've been around for a long time so no worry they're going to run off w your money or anything crazy like that. All in all, probably a safe bet but I wouldn't xfer for an extra .10.

Pretty much exactly what I was going to say. I know none of my current savings type account at WT have a rate anywhere near this! It's typically more like .35% rather than 3.35%. Since I already have accounts there, going to see if I can transfer into this rate.

I see

*3.35% Annual Percentage Yield. Rates are variable and may change at any time. Rates as of 6/20/05. $1 Minimum Opening Deposit. This special rate is available to our Instant Access Savings On-Line Clients. Account opened by Wilmington Trust FSB, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wilmington Trust Corporation.

Seems like they could possible get a lot of clients then drop the rate...

Standard writing... said about the same thing with emigrant direct

Has anyone signed up for this? What's been your experience?

I agree. They have been around for 100 years or so, and as with everything from that time period around here, it was started by the duPont family. Back in the day when I opened a checking account with them, I was annoyed by their nickel and diming. But then, they have the best ATM/branch network in wilmington/newark area.

Any comment on their on-line banking Funds Transfer? Is it provided by CashEdge? How fast to transfer?
Thanks.

I believe emigrant has guaranteed their rate thru 12/31/05 to be atleast 3.25%(could go up) according to their FAQ

From the FAQ:

Is EmigrantDirect's 3.25% APY on the American Dream Savings Account a "promotional" offer?

Not at all. In fact, the current APY reflects an increase from 3.00% APY to 3.25% APY effective 3/14/2005. Emigrant Direct is committed to offering the 3.25% APY through 2005. The rate may even increase, based on market conditions.

I guess i will wait on this until someone else signs up

As for emigrant, how is transfering funds to other accounts? (comparison to ING)

It's about the same as !ng, but the interface is horrible.

I have an ING and ED account

Transfer of fund is not as "pretty" as ING, but fully functional(one time push, one time pull, and repeating). Also ED seems to be a bit quicker(by 1 business day) than ING(someimes 2 days to complete the transfer)

You set up external accounts the same way - send in a check from the external bank you want to have listed and write something specific(i forget the verbiage) in the memo area.
I think ED limits you to 2 external links

Now that the interest rate(apy) are within .1%(3.25 v 3.15), it matters much less. It is useful to have both since ACH transfers are free.

I am thinking of a presidental or lockheed CU account to get the 3.75-4% yield, but I would need to open checking accounts with them to allow me to ach in and out ing or ed.

many people seem to have this tho

I'm from Delaware as well! I wonder if you will be able to use the Wilmington Trust Savings account for balance waiver for some of their deluxe accounts. Because as said before they do have generally higher fees and balance requirements than some other banks in the area.
