So is there ANY reason NOT to open this account if you can live with the fact that it's something of a pain to get your money out? (I have a Lockheed Credit Union location about 30 minutes away, I guess that's helpful).
So what's an "Internal Transfer"? If I go to the physical credit union, can I get a bank check or something if I need it?
The rate can change at any time...OK...what's it tiered to? Is it going to increase now that the Fed has increased the discount rate again???

Reason 1) you can get 4.5% with an Everbank checking acct. 2) you can get 4.0% with an Amboy direct money market maximizer and easily ACH money in and out granted the above are promo's , gauranteed for 3 months , but thats longer than Lockheed gaurantees its rate. Nothing wrong with Lockheed , it would be my third choice though.

Is there a reason I can't link the savings accounts to ING(only initial account obviously). Or you can get a checking account and definitely link that. |

How is it at all a smart move to go with a 4% account that you'll probably need to move money away from in 3 months? As for Everbank, that's also not a good deal as .5% on 30K will net you $36 in 3 months, but then the downtime of transferring money to an account that gives a sustainable 4% rate after the teaser rate expires (assuming 2 weeks of transfer time) will cost you $50. Teaser rates are usually for suckers, don't get drawn in by them. Give your business to a company committed to a consistently high rate. |

Good points Arcanlaw , you listed some important factors that need to be taken into account in the yield chasing game.
When I switched to Amboy Direct they were paying .75% more than Emigrant . Was also really quick and easy to open an account with them online. Account opened and money transferred within one week. on 100k figured it would be worth it. |

I just talked to LFCU on the phone after receiving my signup papers from them. The person on the phone said the 4% rate was through at least March 2006. Not bad for a "promotion", especially with interest rates going up. |

Do I need to have the savings and checking accounts? Can I just have the Money-tree account by itself at Lockheed? I have a checking account already somewhere else. |

Read the rest of this thread. Savings account is required, and the free checking account is the easiest way to get money in/out for no charge. |

Someone on the "daughter of all threads" is claiming the 4% deal has now ended. Can anyone confirm?

Even with the rate hike they left the rate at 3.5%. Guess it's time to move the money; how annoying. |
