I'll try to post a comprehensive HSBC thread but will not maintain it.

It would be nice if senior members could start FAQ-type threads marked as such (different icon). There would be no discussion (or permit only OP to post updates?) and they would not be archived. Finally, search in FAQs only would be a great option.

IMHO, giving posters more control over their threads would increase motivation.

Thanks to the grizzled vets for pitching in with your sound advice. EugeneV, I think your suggestions are very good--you might think about posting them in the FW forum on getting a PM to Tim.

People told me to post in here.

I want to set-up a financial thread for college students in the Finance forum. I think it is a good idea because most people begin to care about their future in college or even sooner. There has been alot of questions regarding which credit cards are best, 401k and roth ira questions, and many others asked by college students. This thread is different from the threads for people that just started with their financial life because most college students are just poor and only have so much. Of course I will have plans but it is only a start as of now.

Here's the original thread.

EDIT: I just scanned a few pages on this thread and it sppears that someone else has the same idea.

dchan86, please edit the quick summary according to what you're proposing.

If you really want to "set it up," i.e. start it yourself, nurse it along, put in some time, etc., then say that in the QS. But, if you're just asking for it to be done, then probably nothing needs to be said other than "I want what x already said."

The main reason this thread isn't living up to its potential is that virtually everyone is asking, and almost no one is providing. (EugeneV is a recent noteworthy exception with his HSBC thread.)

I would be willing to do some work on updating the FW Finance FAQ: Credit Unions thread, but it's archived. What are the options for dealing with this?

Request: a financially smart wedding thread (sort of a "getting married frugally without hardship").

I would love to see this as a place where people could post ways that they've saved money on their weddings, what's a good thing to be cheap on and what's not, etc.

alert mods

Is it possible just to have questions and debate on different topics or does it only have to consist of threads?

What are the options for dealing with this?you can PM the mods to unlock it, but since you wouldnt be the OP you couldnt updat eit...maybe just start a new 2005 thread and reference the old one.

UPDATE TO THIS THREAD: Mhesidence and I have updated the CC signup bonus thread listed in the Quick Summary - now more than $1000 in CC signup bonuses posted!

I vote for Savings Bonds as an investment: a FAQ and info thread, updated 6/03/05.

I made $8,000 in interest and cc rebates with the purchase of Savings bond with CC.

It was my understanding that you could no longer buy savings bonds with a CC... is this not correct?

Wish the Finance Thread could be more organized for example: Rate, then subpages, checking, savings, CDs, and then topics under each one of those. At present, stuff if kind of all over the place.

alert mods

I think subpages might be an interesting idea, davidaexp1. It might be worth it to make a detailed proposal, and we'll see what FW members and site owner Tim Storm think.

alert mods

I'll volunteer to do an "auto loan rate" thread similar in form to the cd rate thread.

Edit: Did it. Auto loan rate thread.

Thanks slimcustomer, and thanks for updating the QS as well! Now hopefully more will follow your example.

is there a list of all the 0% BT w/ no fee CC offers? it seems like this would be a good addition to an upgraded cash for CC signup thread. also, isn't it important to know which agencies the CC reports to etc? this kind of information would be nice to have in one place.

Anyone interested on a selling your car yourself thread? I'm going to be doing this in the next month or so and will keep track of my successes and failures if anyone is interested?

Sounds interesting

The " we have jobs thread "
where FW members graciously list jobs in their companies.

HOWEVER, it is now cluttered with people looking for jobs.
This should be a separate thread to make it easier for FW members.
