The monthly maintenance is only on the $100 visa/debit card that they mail you for free... most of us plan on spending it before the fees kick in. |

Submitted an online app yesterday and didn't get an instant approval. And I just called 1-888-279-7538 to check the status and was told that I was approved with 1.5K credit line. This is gonna be my 3rd schwab card. But I already closed the 2nd one though. Thanks OP for easy $100! |

I was approved for $1,000 but then I was asked what I was looking for. I told her my other credit limits, and right away she changed it to $5,000. Total call was 45 seconds, and the lady in Delaware was very friendly. |

nice card since it offers
Price Protection program from Visa®: If you find an item advertised at a price lower than what you paid within 60 days of the purchase, Visa will give you a refund of up to $500 per item. (Now you can shop without worrying about future sale prices.) • Extended Warranty Protection from Visa: This coverage doubles your original warranty's free repair period (up to one year) when you use your card to purchase your toaster, golf clubs or whatever. • Purchase Protection from Visa: Protects your merchandise from theft or damage up to 90 days after purchase.

I got this after submitting my online application:
Thank you for submitting an application for a Charles Schwab Bank Visa® credit card. Your business is appreciated and careful consideration is being given to your request, but an instant decision cannot be provided at this time. If you are a Charles Schwab & Co. customer with access to schwab.com, you can log in and check the status of your credit card application through the Banking/Credit Card section. Please give us 15 minutes to review your application before checking the status. All credit card applications receive a written response within the next 30 days.
What does this mean? Am I rejected already? |

The application is complete, but by calling that phone number you can get an instant decision/status on your application. |

Many CSRs claimed that it was one $150 GC per applicant before, well, not sure that was true.
Not sure this one is true, either, until one actually tests it out. |

Thanks. Will call.
Update: Called and approved. Now I'll go back to see how the $100 can come. |

I told the rep that I like to have a short-credit CC to use for online transactions. He seemed to want to talk about extending credit lines, but I do not want that. I want CCs with short-credit lines. I also told him I was applying to get the $100GC, which did not seem to warm the cockles of his heart. He balked at approving a 4th CC after he saw I had 3 already (from the $150 bonus offer) and he was not inclined to help me qualify for a 4th card by closing out the first of the Schwab Visa CCs that I got back in May. Hey, I tried! "Not today" was his disqualification. I figure that means I might qualify after I close out the other MBNA accounts. I'll wait a while and try again. It's an easy $100, for sure. -Zer rogerbeagle said: A clever answer to the "why do you need another card" question from a previous post is "to have a card to track expenses by the day of week." Just got done applying for the card online. I got message like others about getting response within 30 days by mail. Within couple of minutes of finishing application, I get a call from their CSR with approval offer. He mentioned me having another MBNA card (with $39000 credit limit). He offered to move $30000 to my new card and leave $9000 on that old card. I was little reluctant to do that. But, in the end I agree to split the amount to $19500 even on each card. It took less than 2 minutes to do this.
Thanks OP.

And when you close this new card, just have them move the $19,500 back on to your original card. I've done the same thing many times and MBNA will do it for you no problem. |
