Signed up yesterday and a decision wasn't available. I called 1-888-279-7538 today and found out that I was approved for $1000. It'll be my first Schwab card. |

It just means that they dont have the information to approve you...just call the number...I read in the other thread that someone clicked thrice to get approved and the system took that as three different applications...I suggest you call CSR to check!!!

You were right! I got a call from a guy confirming the cc and and he said he would adjust my cc lines as I didn't want to close one of my oldest cards, my Star Trek MBNA one. Later another woman calls telling me that she has an application for my account..then says wait you called up 2x? I said no I applied online and once. She had two apps there. The weird thing is that the times didn't synch. The first one was about the time I did it, the second one was literally timed minutes before she called and I had completed the app, an hour before, at least.
BTW..not that I wanted but she said she couldn't give me two lines for the SAME type of product. Zer I have no idea how you got THREE before. LOL

Hi Tasha
I'm so jealous. I remember applying for Star Trek MBNA card and getting denied for whatever reason a few years back at the Las Vegas Hilton. At least I have my free "photo" with ST:TNG crew
I'm going to try for another Schwab card - just got the $150 from the previous deal.
I wonder if MBNA still does star trek cards?

MBNA still offers the ST cards. I recall ages ago seeing that they had one for the various Treks but this is the only one I could find now.
Trek card
Don't think I got any bonus at the time as I have had it for about 10 years or so. Thought it was cool, but after paying it off years ago, I sort of just keep it around. No perks from using it unless I am at the LV Hilton. There I get 10% off so it is cool to whip it out at Quark's Bar. LOL
So did you actually get a "photo with" or was it just a cardboard cutout?

Thanks for the link. I am partial to ST:TNG though. I actually got a photo where they just took a shot of my head on blue background and photo-edited it on the group shot of ST:TNG main cast. I still have that pic
The closest I have to real Star Trek photo is my own photograph autographed by Pavel Chekov (Walter Koenig) - I had a friend who worked on a set of one of the ST movies.

Zer92780 said:Non-use? I'm sure we all used our Schwab at least once, to qualify for the GC, didn't we? I did. But when I was asked about why I wanted a 4th SchwabVisa, I said I needed several short-credit CCs for online purchases. I did the same with my credit union, so that I have my full credit line CC and a short-credit CC for online use, just in case the security is breached and someone accesses the info. I think it's wise to limit the degree of damage that can be done. Next time I try for this $100GC, I'll explain to the CSRep that I'd like to whittle the line of credit on the other three Schwab CC's to allow me a 4th Schwab CC with a short-credit limit. I think that might get me in. We'll see. -Zer bedrocked said: anyone who has been asked about non-use of the first schwab, what have you said?
I'm surprised they haven't asked you to get a onetime use cc number instead of issuing another Schwab Visa for you. But I think the CSRs are not trained to reason at all. I wouldn't be surprised if they got paid a bonus for each completed application and will pretty much sign up any warm body.
In light of the coming merger with BofA, I would be cautious about over doing repeat applications for the same cc, though you plan to cancel all the cards. Somehow, I don't think this will go unchafed.

Unchafed? Not sure what you mean. I don't need the MBNA cards. Even if they had not mixed up all the accounts in the billing, I'd be shucking 'em as soon as the GC arrives. I've got well-established credit that any nonsense with MBNA is not likely to have any impact on at all, so no chafing likely from MBNA. I have little regard for BofA, having dealt with them decades ago and formed an opinion that leads me to shun them. So I'll be all done with MBNA soon enough. Just found the offer of leafy green too tempting to bypass. I'd love to know what marketing ploy is responsible for the big cash payoff to bring in new accounts or to collect info from applicants. And I'm totally SURE that the reps I spoke with were paid to sign up all callers. Nevermind my credit rating, no way my income warrants ANY extension of 'credit', even if it is just thinly disguised debt or an attempt to lure debt-ridden folks to pay interest on hefty balances. I told the CSReps that I was applying to get the Gift Card. -Zer tooshy said: I'm surprised they haven't asked you to get a onetime use cc number instead of issuing another Schwab Visa for you. Thanks OP, I had already done the $150 deal and was so happy with it that i decided to try this one too -- I submitted online but it said decision not available, the next day I got a call from a CSR that said I already had an account, I told him I wanted to have one account just for technology purchases and one for everyday purchases (not far from the truth) and he approved me. Thanks again! |

I've just comsolidated my three SchwabVisaCCs from the $150 GC effort, having received one GC and hopeful of receiving one or more in addition, at some time, perhaps even in this lifetime. With only one CC, I may be a better candidate for a new SchwabVisaCC on this $100 GC effort. Sure hope so! Thanks for the suggestion about REALLOCATING CREDIT LINE to open a new CC acct. -Zer [Q= said:HKnight]nonchalant said: Thank you for submitting an application for a Charles Schwab Bank VisaŽ credit card. Your business is appreciated and careful consideration is being given to your request, but an instant decision cannot be provided at this time. ....All credit card applications receive a written response within the next 30 days. I hope that doesn't mean NO. I haven't applied for any sort of credit since October/2004. Anyone have any idea how long I should wait before I call? It means they need to manually review your application. If they deny you and you have another account with MBNA you can simply ask to reallocate your credit lines to open this account. That's what I had to do to open my $150 Schwab card account. |
