This is my first post, don't know if someone already posted it.
HSBC offers a new Cash Back master card, which gives 1% Cash Back the first $2500, 2% the next $2,500, and 5%!! thereafter. As far as I know, this is the best I can get. To reach the maximum of $300 per year, you only need to spend $9500 per year. Ideal for most people. A good complimentary card to your citibank Cash Back card.

[Edit] I received the invitation, but don't know this is not a general offer. I'm sure they are sending out this kind of invitations right now, so watch your mailbox and don't throw it away. Actually, I'm sure I have thrown away several invitations from them previously.

thanks for posting, where did you find this card? Did you receive a mailed solicitation?

If so, please provide any info (tel # to apply, website, etc)

The HSBC website only mentions a 1% card.

link?

I called the 1-800 number, the CSR stated that one would need the invitation number to even get any cash rebate information about this offer. The invitation number may be coded for specific customer only, so (maybe?) end of story for most of us who did not receive the invitation letter. FYI.

1.Is the card referred to by HBSC as the "CashBack Mastercard" with no space between 'cash' and 'back'?

2.If you don't mind disclosing, what geographical region are you from? I know HSBC often targets particular test markets with these cards.

3.The lifespan of this card may be similar to that of their 2% rewards card:

I'm from RTP area. This card is slightly better than the card mentioned in your link.
The annual cap sucks , though.

Apologies, but by RTP, do you mean "research triangle in NC?"

you are right, sorry for the confusing. I lives in Chapel Hill.

Somebody invite me

The Household Bank credit card offers 2% Cash Back on any amount you spend. But it is by invitation only. Does anyone know how to get an invitation?

5% thereafter?!?!
I wonder if you have to charge $5000/yr before your will get the 5% or it is a 1 time thing that after $5000 then you will get 5% forever.

BTW, I got the same invitation in the mail and I am in CA.

im sure the tiers are reset annually

So this CC is effectively a 3% rebate card which is pretty cool if you can spend $9500/yr.

What are some of the good ways to spend that much money.....

I bet there is some small print missing here...

Go see your dentist, and tell them you'll pay first and get insurance to pay you.

Update 9/12/05: Received this HSBC card this week in the mail (took almost 3 weeks after submitting the app!). We did receive this by invite and are located in the New England region.

The card came branded as "CashBack Mastercard," which is verbatim with the standard 1% card they offer on their website. None of the documentation that came with the card disclosed the higher rate.

Gave a call to their (overseas) Customer Service area, and they confirmed the higher 1%/2%/5% scheme. Did not provide any information as to how long.

Conclusion: If you get the invite, still worthwhile getting as $9,500 in annual charges nets you $300. But don't be surprised after the 1st year if this drops to the standard 1%.
