This is the best United Mileage Plus card offer I've seen so far. The others I've applied to in the last year or so - via links found at Fatwallet & Flyertalk were for 15k.
The first year's annual fee is waived. After which, the best strategy is probably to change the card to a different Chase product, with no fee.
Remember that you can apply for a new United card (and get miles!) every 90 days. Thus, if your credit score can deal with it, thats 4 cards per year = 80k miles = one free economy ticket to europe + one free domestic economy ticket.
Other United CC deals worth mentioning:
They will often give you 5k miles for upgrading you to gold, and pro-rate the fee (which would normally be $20), depending on how much longer till your card renewal date is. Thus, if you upgrade to gold a month or two before the annual fee kicks in, you could get yourself 5k miles for less than 5 dollars. Just ask about the offer on the phone.. be persistant.
I recently did a 20k balance transfer (0% for 6 months), fee-waived (after asking retention), and got 1 mile per every 2 dollars (with a 10k mile cap).
Also, if you're in College, don't forget about United College Plus. 10k miles for each degree you get.
Earlier this year, I cancelled before the end of the first year free period. Within six weeks of my cancellation, they sent me another email invitation for a new card with 15k miles and another fee free year.
I'm in. Hopefully I get it, got 2 different cards earlier this month. 20,000 miles is an awesome deal, pretty much a free round trip (25,000 needed for a saver RT).
Heh, what about green for me for transferring this post over to the Finance forum instead of the Travel forum? But nooooo, that's too much to ask - instead I get red!

there's a travel forum?
i'll get you back to neutral at least. <edit> at least i tried </edit>
I recently applied for a similar card - there was a "fine print" note saying that if you cancel the card within six months they reserve the right to remove the miles (or somehting similar). I dont have the paper anymore to quote the exact language. Definately a great deal.
thats an awesome deal.. wish there was a similar deal with NWA.. with one year free ...

I tend to disagree. I signed up for two united credit cards within the same month (two months ago) and both were eligible for the extra miles. Additionally, if you upgrade to the Gold visa straight away, you can get the 2,500 bonus anniversary miles for the first year as well. Total 27,500 bonus miles.
Check this out united is giving 2X points out school tuition:
Parents shelling out dollars to their kid's school can rack up some serious miles this fall. The "United Mileage Plus VISA" is offering two miles for every dollar spent that exceeds $1,000 and is paid directly to schools through the end of this year. This includes tuition for colleges and universities, as well as public and private elementary and secondary schools, school bookstore purchases, season football tickets, school donations and more. For example, parents of college students can earn 25,000 United miles for $12,500 in purchases, enough for a free round trip domestic ticket. The "United Mileage Plus VISA," issued by Chase, is also offering extra bonus miles though September 30th for back-to-school purchases from Office Max, Banana Republic/Gap/Old Navy, IKEA and Borders. I just got one approved a month ago for 25k. I've received several offers for 20k since. How long do I need to wait to apply for a second or third card? Do I have to cancel the 1st card? Thanks.

Oh but there is! In fact there are two: one for the NWA biz card (7500 miles for free), and one for the consumer card (15,000 miles for free). Give a day or so and I'll start a new thread.
EDIT: biz card deal is dead, but here's 17,500 NWA miles comin' at ya.link

After the original 20K posted to my United account, I called the application phone # on one of the new ones & asked if I could apply for a 2nd one. I was told you could only have 1 at a time.
I'm in the process of moving my CL to another card & closing out the 1st United card so I can apply for the 2nd. I will post an update once there is news to share.

I already have two Mileage Plus Visa cards and I just applied for this one (my third). I don't think there is a limit on how many of these you can get if your credit rating will support new cards and you don't mind the annual fees...

can someone explain to me why the link on this post directs to app.firstusa.com and why if you go to united and click on the promo offer directly, it goes to https://ccsic.fni-stl.com/

I always wonder what is the quantitative impact on credit score for every new credit card application? Any idea?
Thanks

Quote from www.myfico.com below. Read this site for some great info about your credit score, and what kinds of things affect (and do not affect) it.
Fallacy: My score will drop if I apply for new credit. Fact: If it does, it probably won't drop much. If you apply for several credit cards within a short period of time, multiple requests for your credit report information (called “inquiries”) will appear on your report. Looking for new credit can equate with higher risk, but most credit scores are not affected by multiple inquiries from auto or mortgage lenders within a short period of time. Typically, these are treated as a single inquiry and will have little impact on the credit score.

Update:
As per someone's comments on this thread, I just applied for another card - my last was given to me 2 months ago (and thus, not more than 90 days).
I had a 21k BT on my first United card, and was approved for another 21k for the new card. Called, and was told they won't give me 0% on this card (what a shame). Still, I can move it around, and do a BT on another card with the large line of credit.
Also - called about upgrading the new card to gold.. was told they no longer give 5k bonus miles for upgrading. Anyone know anything about this?

From my experience, 3 months after cancel. YMMV.

This is a great deal. The delayed approval is scary though. What would be even better is if they had a no-fee-ever version of this card like AAdvantage Bronze or Skymiles Options, as I would think converting this to a regular Chase card could be iffy. (Not that I need to keep racking up open Chase accounts.) Closing might be just as good as converting in this case, because it seems at least one of my conversions (w/ new account numbers) has left a closed account on my credit report.
I hope Citi has a similar promo on its AA cards. The problem with that happening anytime soon would be that I would have to get in on a reduced-point award ticket within the first year to avoid the annual fee. Cheapness can make many things quite complex.
I've noticed this deal in the past, but I wouldn't want to jump unless I knew I could use a reduced-mileage award within the year. Nonetheless, it is essentially a free ticket to many select airports in the US, Canada and Mexico. I'm kinda aiming for a free flight to South America, given the low 22.5k mile requirement. Right now I have about 3,500, so if they have a 17.5k promo I'd have to come up with 1,500 miles in short order. Maybe I'm aiming too high. Hehe
Ehh. Well, I guess the only way to have the convenience to react to new reduced awards is to get the miles (-1.5k for me), convert or cancel, then sign up again -- with the same bonus hopefully -- and book once I get the card. Solves the problem of waiting for promo miles to post.
Approved! The card is showing up with my other two (actually 3, as an old converted card still annoyingly takes up space) online. The shocker is the huge credit line: $12,000 for an unemployed grad student. Woo! Guess I'll have to move most of this CL other to an awards card if I close this one. My next highest lines are $5k.
notlarry: Looking forward to an update from you...
vapno: If you get a card then you can signup for firstprotect / chase payment protector and cancel in 30 days and keep 1K miles. That reduces the problem to 500. Remaining 500 miles: you can always buy or use CC to pay bills / school and get 1 mile / $. I hope this helps.

Hello, Seems like the offer link is good for "first time" account application. Is there any offer for third time application??? Thanks,
