scanchain said:Hi, can anyone tell me if the HSBCdirect account gives you a routing number which you can externally use to pull or push money? E.g. this will allow me to push money from Vanguard using ACH directly into the HSBCdirect account.
This would avoid HSBC's 3-day hold mentioned in the first post (when you use HSBC's transfer service) where you do not see the money credited in your HSBCdirect account while the source account had already been deducted.
Yes, they send you the routing number in the welcome package, thats another plus for HSBC over the other online accounts, where you have to go searching for the routing number. |

It appears that Bill Pay is only available with checking account. I clicked on BP on the online saving & got this:
CHANGE PROFILE - ADD FREE BILL PAY SERVICE You must have an eligible HSBC Bank USA, N.A. Checking Account to enroll in our Bill Pay service. Text |

Can anyone give me advice on the best (cheapest if possible) way of transferring money by Monday? My pops has an Online Savings account, and I believe the Bank-To-Bank transfer will take a few business days to process, but he needs the money in by Monday morning. The only thing I can think of is to do a wire transfer, but the website didn't outline how much the fees were. I'll probably call to ask, but does anyone know if my dad can go to a branch, withdraw a large chunk of money into a cashier's check, and dump it into his bank before the usual posting deadlines, or are Online Accounts not allowed to withdraw large sums? Thanks for any tips |

With an online savings account, you can't withdraw from a teller, so the cashier's check is out, you can withdraw from an ATM, but all ATM's have a limit as to how much you can withdraw in 1 day, I'm not sure what the amount is. |

It is my understanding with my online acct that all one needs to do is transfer the funds via computer to your linked hsbc checking acct. Once that is done go into the hsbc branch and get a tellers check from funds that you transferred in from online savings. In my experience, I have had to specify that I wanted bank checks deposited as cash, or same day service otherwise some tellers deposit it with different clearing regulations. |

Thanks Tony and adry...
I believe the ACH transfer takes 2 business days to process so that was out of the question. My pops ended up throwing a hissy fit, but said not to transfer the funds... |

With HSBC internal transfers, it's automatic. I have transferred monies between my online savings and Hsbc checking. The money is instantly moved. It's not the same as with EXTERNAL transfers.
All you need to do is transfer via computer, and get the cash out of the HSBC bank, OR ask for a bank check. That should not cause more than a one day delay. |

HSBC external transfers suck. Takes them 3 business days to initiate and 3 more for it to arrive at the destination. I also applied for their 12 month 0% BT credit card and got a $5K limit. This is with a 750+ FICO and excellent income to debt ratio. I called to see if I could get that raised and they said I could ask for a review at 6 months and maybe they would raise it. I ended up closing all my accounts with them they don't seem too enthusiastic to keep my business. |

HSBC external transfer never took me that long Bruteforce. If you setup the external transfer on monday it will be processed on tuesday and send out wendesday. I only have Citibank, Fidelity, and USAA accounts linked but all 3 of them would post it on wednesday. Now Citibank and USAA does not place any extra hold on incoming funds but Fidelity put an extra 3 day hold on the account but shows the funds being recieved just not avalible. |

I was waiting for the coupon since oct 1st but no coupon. I called them several times too. Today when I called lady told me that promotion expired on dec 12. don't know how, because I called during those times. Good news is that she was friendly and opened my account with promotion even it was expired. Now it's suspense that I will get the promotion or not. |

I opened an account with them in November 1 and my 45 days for my promo was in Dec 17 and I have been calling and emailing them since then and still have not seen it. They told me that I would have it added to my account on December 20, 23, 29, and finally 30. Now they say it will post on Dec 30, but it will not show up on my account until Jan 5 or 6 because of the business holidays and even for internal HSBC transfers directly from the bank takes 2-3 days because they must verify ALL funds even from their own bank.
I think I will leave my money at ED as they have been wonderful and even when I do some external transfers they happen the next day if done early enough.
Just my experience...... |

HSBC refused to honor the credit to my account; until, that is, I filed a complaint with my State Attorney General's office... got a call about 3 weeks later from their Executive Office, and the credit appeared the next day. |

So with the HSBC routing number, does that mean you can set up direct deposit? |

Yes, assuming they don't require you to give them a check. |

HSBC does have extremely slow external transfer for me too. If I request a transfer on Sunday, the fund will not move to my account until Friday. This is for Washington Mutual and Cathay Bank. |
