VERY IMPORTANT UPDATE: Some card users who were victims are now reporting their same cards are being hit again with charges in the $599 range (that's right, FIVE HUNDRED NINETY-NINE !!)
Keep a very close eye on your statements because it seems for those of us who were unable to get a new card, the crooks still have our CC #.
------------------------ EDIT: Half of the affected cardholders have nothing to do with Page Computers. Seems like AMEX itself may have been compromised? everybody double check their AMEX statements
Just realized for the past 2 months ESTOREONLINE ROCKLIN, CA has been charging my card, and its a bookstore... that doesn't exist.
funny thing is i don't ever use this card.
last time i used it was at the end of April for a price mistake by Page Computers in CA but i cant find the FW thread
[i suspected page computers at first because they are also in CA and they are the only charge on my AMEX in like a year, but the trend seems to indicate its an AMEX leak]
they refunded my money but kept my CC number
anybody else getting these fraudulent charges on their credit card the past few months?
[Edited to update how many of us have been hit]
over an amazing 7 dozen victims when added to deal discussion thread, which could mean hundreds or thousands of non-fatwallet victims out there.
99th as of Mamatech on page 20
91 or more out of 99 are confirmed AMEX, if yours have been compromised please note if yours was AMEX or not
also, about 81 non-ESTOREONLINE fraud charges also have been caught:
and DIGITAL AGE: 47 victims so far on MC/Visa as of knew25 PG 20
Important Note: Some people are reporting that the same CC hit by Digital Age was then hit again by a different company.

glad ppl are checking their statements.
garycoleman was hit by samedaymusic.com $599.95 on AMEX Darinn was hit on Hotels.com $599.40 on Bankone debitcard
Darinn says their card was somehow charged under somebody else's name; Hotels.com is a legitimate site, so are the scammers dumb enuff to be booking their vacations with our cards or are they running some sort of affiliate scam?

also the first charge they do is small, and then the next month's was larger
A small first charge is a very common technique used by fraudsters. This is where having an aggregation software like Yodlee helps - its hard to not notice a charge on your CC that you were not expecting if you check Yodlee on regular basis.
While on this, I also would mention that lately I have started using one-time cards more and more. MBNA and Citibank provide one-time cards, which are a life saver.
since you know you havent been using this card, wouldnt it be even MORE obvious (from the bill you got in the mail, or the online statement notification) that something was going on??

Agree. Much easier to catch it on a card that you don't use

Id have to agree, wouldn't you notice it when you get your statement and see a charge on a card you haven't used since april?
Anyways Ive used pagecomputers numerious times and I haven't noticed anything its probably somthing else.
actually i double checked the dates of the charges, the first charge happened 8/25 or 23 days ago about when the cycle ended. the 2nd charge was 9/15 a mere 3 days ago which raised a red flag because actually i was logging on the check out the first charge and saw the 2nd as well
so i googled the store name and somebody else has the same predicament (2 months of consecutive charges)
the reason why i brought this issue up is to give a heads up because the only thing i have used this card on in a year is the page computers "price mistake" (which they charged and refunded), so i suspect they leaked my CC, which would mean other fatwallers may be at risk
I got the same charge on my credit card for 8.95 I think from estoreonline. I wouldn't have noticed it if I didn't look through my statement carefully. I think I may have used that credit card w/ page computers as well with their hard drive mistake. anyone else got the charge?
do you think the computer place leaked the CCs of just those who tried to take advantage of the price mistake , sort of a vigilante justice kind of thing?
I checked my statement and found a $15.95 charge from the same place. I also have not bought anything from a company under that name, or any books online recently for that matter. I also charged something to Page Computer back in February, but that could be coincidence. Thanks, OP.
Doesn't everybody reconcile their CC statements every month? I enter the CC charges in my Quicken just like I do with my checks. When the statments come in, if anything shows up that I didn't charge then I know about it right then. (I don't actually wait until I get the statement, I reconcile to the online balance at least 3 times a week.)
ideally yes, but when i saw the first charge i thought maybe it was for domain registration or something small i purchased and slipped my mind
its when i saw the 2nd charge i knew it was fraud. because it was like "ESTOREONLINE... DESCRIPTION: bookstore WTF, i don't read books!!"
so it seems page computers a CA company is the source of the leak. or more sinister did they do it themselves? also should this be put up in HOT DEALS, as 4 of us (3 in this thread) are apparent victims with link to page pricing mistake?
To clarify, my purchase from Page had nothing to do with the pricing mistake. It was for a completely different item, about 9 months ago. Not sure if there is a relationship or not.
I've gotten charges from them too. Last month I was checking my unbilled activity there was a $15.99 charge (looked fishy to me since the charge description didn't have a web address as usual). I called AMEX and they gladly credited me back. Then a week later I checked again and they charged me again! AMEX again reversed the charges and offered to change my card number, though I didn't bother because I thought maybe it was just a mistake (so I'll probably do that soon). But I did ask them for the store's address:
ESTOREONLINE 2823 Catalina Drive Rocklin, CA 95765
Doing a reverse lookup in the yellow pages it says it's a person's address, so I'm not sure what that means. And I think I did also buy from Page Computers a while back, but I use this CC for a lot of online purchases from a lot of different stores.
Two questions here, the first one of which may be very naive: 1) How does this credit card company get the credit card numbers? 2) I use Quicken and I have ALL my credit cards (okay, I only have four) hooked into the program and they are each automatically updated from the various CC company's websites daily. I have always thought that this would insure that I would catch any unauthorized or unusual charges because I would spot them as soon as they posted to my account since I update and review every day. (I just handled a strange charge today, actually.) Is there a flaw in this plan? Is there something that could still happen that more experienced users are aware of?
