I did $7k to a Citi Professional card with a $1k limit last month, and had no trouble with it. It took about a week to get the check in the mail from Citi after requesting the refund online. |

Had success sending a 12k BT to a 6.5k Citi line just a few days ago and refund check in on the way. |

How is that supposed to work? Your credit limit is only 6.5 K and you transfer 12K? Doesn't that put you over the limit and subject to all kinds of fees, etc? |

akor said:I wonder how do you get promotional 0% BT checks from Chase?
Attempt #1: called Chase, asked to send me promotional 0% BT checks. CSR confirmed they will be _promotional_ BT checks. When the checks arrivied.. it said: "standard BT check APR"
Attempt #2: called Chase again, explained that I received standard BT checks, instead of promotional ones. Asked for promotional BT checks. CSR: I will send you convenience checks. Me: Are they 0% BT checks? CSR: yes, yes, they work as 0% BT checks, but there is no indication they are promotional checks. Me: do you have promotional 0% BT checks not convenience checks? CSR: No, I only can send you convenience checks. Me: Ok, send me the checks....
Can somebody confirm that convenience (BT) checks from Chase work as promotional 0% BT checks? What kind of checks did you use for 0% BT from Chase to get the promo rate 0% BT?
When I got my Sony Chase card in the mail, It came with a check. I called the CSR a dozen times to confirm it was a 0% BT check. I also viewed the Sony Chase account online to look for the 0% rate. Today, the check cleared and I sent it to my GMAC MMA. It took 16 days to clear, which I think is ridiculous. |

What kind of check it was? Did it say "Conveniece check"? How did CSR figure out it was 0% BT check? just by the name of the check, i.e. "convenience check"?
By the way, I was told by the Chase CSR it normally takes 14 days to clear. |

No; we're talking about the other direction, i.e. having a payment made from some other card to the Citi card, giving the Citi card a substantial credit balance. A refund can be requested via their Web site; no need to talk to a person (who might question why you have a large credit balance).
In general: there are two different uses of "from" and "to" for BT. Technically, a balance (debt) is transferred FROM bank #1 (the old card) TO bank #2 (the new 0% card). But it's more logical to talk about money being sent from bank #2 to bank #1 (to pay off the debt). Still, it's worth remembering the literal meaning of "balance transfer". In theory, banks don't want you to increase your total debt, they just want to steal debt from their competition, getting the profit from those who don't pay it off when the 0% rate expires. |

It was a balance transfer check that had a 1 time use to say, buy a diamond ring, or write a check to self and put in the bank.
When I originally applied for the Chase Sony Card, the check was part of the offer with 0% until June 2008.
I called Chase CSR's several times and read the terms to confirm it was a 0% BT check, and not a cash advance check.

Currently I am attempting my first AOR. I have already applied for several cards. And been accepted by some and I am continuing to wait on others.
I believe that I will receive new Chase, Suntrust, FIA, BOA, and Citi Cards. I currently have 2 Chase and 2 FIA Cards.
I initially wanted to send the BTs to my older Chase Card (a year old). That card would probably have around a 2-3k limit after I move some of my lines around. I am curious to see if you can send multiple BT to one Chase account and then get a refund check or have it sent to my checking. To me that seems pretty obvious something odd is going on.
Thanks for the help. |

When you get your first statement, can you please report back that it was actually a 0% BT. I have a new Sony card coming, and the check with the last Sony card I received clearly stated "standard rate for BT's".
Thanks!
p.s. I do not trust in the incompetent CSR's at Chase. |

My wife just got a shiny new Discover card with a $50k CL, 0% APR for 1 year and $50 BT fee. When I went to perform a BT to my Citi CC, I noticed it says: "Note: You may only make balance transfers from accounts that list you as an Accountholder." Does anybody know if Discover will actually verify the name of the accountholder or even verify that the other CC shows up on her credit report?
Thanks |

Citi will allow you to add an AU on the web page. Add your wife as AU. She is now arguably an 'accountholder'. When BT is complete, go back to Citi and remove AU. Everything else being equal try to do this so that your Citi statement doesn't close with both of you listed, although that wouldn't be a major calamity. I don't know about Discover but I know BofA turned down two requests for transfers from my wife's account to my Citi Dividend until I added her. But we do have different names and addresses so that might make a difference, though it never did in the past. |

Thanks Why not just have your wife apply for a Citi card and BT to that card? You can then request for an overpayment check from Citi. |

I requested a BT from AMEX to HSBC debit/mastercard last 7/2. according to AMEX the bt completed last 7/5. When i called HSBC they said they have no record of receiving any funds. I checked online and showed nothing. I've called both AMEX multiple times and confirmed the debit/mastercard card number was correct. What are other people's experiences when they do a BT to hsbc debit/mastercard? Does it really take long and does it really have no record on the hsbc's side for awhile? |

Documentation should include dates, account numbers and bank names/codes. Forward the documentation to HSBC and see what they say. Speak only to supervisors/managers and above. If not resolved quickly, then send a letter, with the AMEX documentation, to the HSBC Office of the President asking them to help resolve. |

mikeres, thanks for the reply. I called AMEX again and they told me to wait 15 business days. If after 15 days, it still hasn't showed up, then they asked me to call AMEX again. I'll request proof that transfer takes place if nothing shows up in HSBC side after 15 business days. I'll update the post after 15 business days. Hopefully AMEX is right that it really just took a long time. |

I requested a 10K BT check(which allow me to deposit that to a bank account) from Citi Professional's web site, haven't got the check yet. For the promotion period, it mentioned 12 month 0 APR after BT, got an email last week, seems they are counting start date of 12 month from the date I requested BT check instead of date of BT Check cashing out time, any one has experience on this? How long will I get the BT check? |
