mapen said:MBNA Quantum is a good card to have/get for this. In the five years I've had this card, they have constantly sent me no-fee balance transfer checks with promotional interest rates like 0.9%, 1.9% (currently 1.99%), but never higher than 2.9%. These are good for temporarily creating a quickie low-interest balance on my CC to be paid off by another 0% card like Chase etc., and depositing the money into my checking account.

And by depositing these checks directly into an ING or ED account, the temporary MBNA interest loss is more than made up for by ING's or ED's higher interest rate. So for me, this is a very safe, no-cost method to move 0% balance transfer cash from Any credit card into interest bearing accounts.
Good idea! Green for you!

I like the idea above, use a cash advance check to depoit into checking then use a BT to pay off the cash advance.

Similar to what daelanton was doing in this thread . He was BTing to a zero balance card and creating a credit balance then using cash advance checks. However the credit unions he was doing this at shut him down. Clearly its better NOT to create credit balances on a credit card since it raises a red flag. Paying a few days intrest on the cash advance seems to be the way to go.

So what credit cards give no fee cash advance checks?

How many times can you take an advance and pay it off before a red flag is raised?

BUT cash advance limit is only 20% of credit limit.

Could it be a problem to do multiple maximum cash-advances within a billing period??

Maybe I'm posting in the wrong thread, but i heard about some people getting 3x their credit limit for AMEX balance transfers (at 3.9% fixed). colud someone share their experience or direct me to a thread where i can find out how to do this.
Thanks

Depends upon the card, 50% is pretty common. 100% with the paper checks you get in the mail is pretty common too, but you need to watch out for the fees.

Exactly.

Ask for balance transfer checks. Deposit them into your checking account yourself.

Write a check to yourself from your HELOC. Use CC with 0% offer to pay off HELOC.

bill777 said:BUT cash advance limit is only 20% of credit limit.Which credit card are you talking about? My MBNA cards, including the Quantum which gives me the no-fee 1.99% checks, do not have a lower cash advance or balance transfer limit. The entire credit line is available to me to write a check on.

My Citi cards have a separate cash advance line, but they don't seem to apply to balance transfers since I've been able to transfer larger amounts. I believe Citi's cash advance line applies to ATM and Bank teller transactions, but I'm not certain.

To answer another question about which cards *consistently* offer no-fee checks, of the major card providers, practically none do -- they only give no-fee checks when they have occasional promotions. That's why I value my Quantum card because their checks never have a transaction fee.

Best bet is to look at card offerings from smaller local regional banks and credit unions cards -- they often have no cash advance fee (and no foreign currency transaction fee too). The problem with small bank and credit union cards is that they don't often send out checks.

I just thought of another one:

1. Buy AAA Traveler's Checks using AAA credit card (no fees).
2. Transfer balance to 0% card.
3. Deposit TCs into bank account.

That sounds nice, can anyone confirm. What kind of limits do AAA give out?

There has to be other stuff that can be bought and deposited/returned, etc. How abot buying three large plasma TV's then returning at a later date? Maybe that negative balance would show up different?

FUnny this thread should come up as I recently did a BT to checking using Chase. First I called and asked if I could BT to checking. CSR checked the "system" and said my account was not eligible, but confirmed that SOME customers are allowed to do this. I assumed it was because my account was fairly new. So I asked for a check. They said they had already sent me one. I told them I never got it, so send a new one. Had to go to Supervisor for this. Sent me check via Fedex.
When the check came, it had NO reference to 0% offer. I called back and said please send me a promo check, not a regular cash advance check. They said they cannot do that because only marketing dept sends out these checks and they cannot do by request. I demanded supervisor again, and CSR said "we might be able to deposit into checking". I said "you told me to days ago I could not do that". He said the "System" changes daily and sometimes it denies ppl for no reason, and my account is now eligible. Money was in account 2 days later.

I'm looking to BT a large amount from my new AMEX In:NYC card but they won't deposit directly into checking. Can anyone confirm that the BT to check card method works with AMEX without it being treated as a cash advance? Thanks for sharing.

Should be fine. Won't be treated as a cash advance. Whether it successfully posts depends on the bank that issued the check card.

What would happen if it's unsuccessful, would it just be rejected?

I'm going to try it tomorrow. The BT from AMEX will be going to my USAA debit Mastercard.

i work for chase, first off if you dont qualify for an ach there could be several reasons, usually meaning your too much of a risk for us to be willing to do it, but ACH is still an option, i cant speak for other banks but if you try to be cute and give us a debit card number all that did was tie up your funds for about 3 weeks and i promise the funds will not show up in your checking acct i have seen the funds just float around for several weeks but never end up in ckecking acct. and with chase you cant order/request promo rate checks, if you loose them or destroy them you are sol. no options.

were you calling from your home phone, we use an ani link system to verify phone # or if you get transfered around a few times that will also break the link and not allow an ach.

Another possibility I thought of is if you have a joint checking account with someone who is not related to you and does not share your family name, could you BT to their name using the joint checking account number as if it was a payment and end up with the funds in your joint checking account which you have access to?
