I received an insert in a mailer from HSBC what gives a $25.00 bonus when you open their OnlineSavings account at 3.75%. The expiration shown on my mailer is Ocotber 31; but the website shows September 30.
Here are the basic features of the account... *OnlineSavings Account FeaturesOne of America's highest savings account rates *Free HSBC ATM withdrawals and deposits *Easy access to your account online anytime *No monthly fees *No minimum term *Open an account with as little as $1
Bonus Disclosure... Limit one $25 bonus per customer. OnlineSavings Account must remain open until bonus is credited or bonus will be forfeited. The $25 bonus will be deposited to the OnlineSavings Account within 45 days following account opening. Offer expires 11:59:59 PM ET September 30, 2005, is subject to change and cannot be combined with any other promotional offers. $25 bonus is considered taxable income and will be reported on IRS form 1099.

Is there any fee to transfer from HSBC to the linked checking account ? Is there a hard inquiry to open this saving account ?

As I said, I just started teh process of openning the account yesterday night, and today I saw the initial credits in my account. try using the trial form if teh routing number/acct. number method is giving you trouble.

If you are trying the ING account then there is a known issue - try a normal checking account it should go through.

Any reason why ING would be better than this bank? The higher APY is quite appealing with the free $25 for opening.

I too had problems with the instant account verification (Bank of America checking). The page would just timeout and result in an error. I ended up just going with the deposit verification method, where HSBC will make 2 small deposits into my account and I'll verify the amounts.

There is 3$ fee for bank to bank transfer from HSBC. The ultimate HSBC thread says it's waived for Online Saving account, but I can't find it on HSBC's website.
I just opened my account online with $1 without any trouble whatsoever. My account was approved immediately.
I thought it was neat that I didn't have to verify my checking account using the small deposits, which I hate, because it takes several days for them to appear. However, I was a little leery of putting in my login information for another bank into their site. Oh, well.
Anyway, I'm wondering. How long does it take for them to get back to you with your account information?

I did mine electronically as well.
I was a little confused after I finished doing the application, as I got an email that says, "Congratulations. You have been approved for your new HSBC account. However, your account cannot be opened until you have finished the entire application process. Please make sure that you have completed the signature form for the product(s) you selected and have funded your account (either online or by mailing a check). If you have completed this process (by the time you read this), please accept this e-mail as our thanks." I'm fairly certain I don't need to do anything else, though.

Yeah that line got me too. I think it is the standard response. If you printed out the pages of the application process, you will see a bit on about the electronic signature card being completed
It was at the end with the applicaiton summary pop up window you could open to print
I guess now all I do is sit and wait for the initial deposit(done electronically) to go thru and get an email/paper mail from them i guess

Thanks for sharing. I have two more question:
I declined ATM card. I can get one any time free in the future, am I right?
Also I heard HSBC ATM/Debit/Credit cards have the best exchange rate/fee among all bank cards. Is this true?

It figures. I spend time researching the HSBC account, talk to the CSR about fees, find thid $25 sign up bonus and decide it is now time to sign up for the account. I figure I will move the $$$ out of emigrantdirect and in to HSBC for the .25% difference(the $25 sign up bonus is also nice - was the deciding factor for the signup)
About 1 hour after I complete the online application, EmigrantDIrect raises their rates to 4.0%
GUess I will not be moving the money to HSBC as I planned.

I opened my account in September 8. On November 8, I send a bankmail to customer service asking about the bonus and the bonus of $35 was credited to my account the next day and customer service never reply.
