It definitely depends on...

1.) Your personal preference - Do you mind getting gift cards as rewards? Or do you prefer Cash Back?
2.) How much you spend - The Dividend card has a $300 max on rewards/year, this card has a 75,000 points max.
3.) Where you're spending - If you're a college student, the 5 points/dollar at bookstores and restaurants is really nice, but the Dividend card offers 5% for gas and supermarket/drug stores.

I'd personally get both cards... & use the Dividend card for Gas only.

u can request student rebate check from thankyou
and actually cash the check.
so i opened a MtvUTM. (decision pending)

Or if you have a SHELL gas station nearby you can always ge $50 gift card for 5000 pts.
So I guess if you calculate the 5% Citi divident rebate you are missing it is like 4.75% rebate.

What the hell!? I applied for this card, got a letter that they needed a copy of my SS card, a recent bill, and my DOB, sent the letter back with this info, and now I get a letter that says they cannot approve my application because I "have the maximum amount of credit that can be issued to an individual". WTF is that?!

Wow! How much is your credit line with Citibank? I hope I'm not going to be in that situation if I apply...

anyone know if there are any specials through for this card? like, get points for applying, etc? or offers through other places where if you apply you get a like a gift card or Cash Back or something? thanks!

Annoyingly, my campus bookstore doesn't get counted as a "bookstore" but rather some general merchandise category.

$40 through Cardoffers.com. Don't know of any other promos.

Chokaay, I guess it is a bit high -- $46,000, but that's because I just recently closed out my Citibank AAdvantage card, and they combined it with my platinum dividends card. I don't understand why they don't give you the option to reduce your credit line in order to get the mtvu. I guess I'll have to call in, and then reapply. And I really should be working on my take-home midterm!

They do give you that option. Just call the CSR and tell them your situation - you may need to be transferred, but in my opinion Citi CSRs are very good. They rarely give contradictory information and they seem to be genuinely interested in helping. When I opened my 3rd citi card i had to lower my CL on another card, but they took care of it and i got all three.

ok who wants to be a guinea pig and apply for this card even if you're not in college anymore?

I believe they verify your information. I've had friends who have had to send proof of information b/c it couldn't be verified.

Ask your friends what "proof of information" they needed to send. I have had Citi request a driver's license and utility bill because they couldn't verify my address. Did they have to send in transcripts or what?

Thanks for the advice gerardkw2015. I'll try it soon and will report back.

Balance Transfer APR: 0.00% for 6 months from date of account opening. After that, 16.99%

I've had the Citi® Dividend Platinum Select® Card for College Students for 5 monthes and the teaser rate is about to goto 16.99%, looks like a good time to apply and BT to this card for me. This card also seems alot better then I had first thought too. 5% at Amazon, pretty exciting.

Once you have this card, can you keep it forever? That is, even if you graduate? Thanks!

I applied for this card about 1.5 months ago, and got declined because they said I had too much credit available compared to my income. I tried calling CSR to see if they could switch my citi dividend card to the mtvU. The CSR told me that they could not convert my card to the mtvU. I asked her if I could speak to somebody about what they had my income as, since they did not ask for it on my application, but she told me that applications could only be done online, and there was nobody she could transfer me to. Well, I realized I had spent a lot on another credit card that month, so I paid that off and re-applied. I was approved about a week ago. They did not require me to send anything in to them to verify that I was a student. The only thing I ever did for to show I was a student was to select my university in the online application.
Hope this helps

a little birdy told me you can get this card even if you've been out of school for 8 months.
