Great deal. I just applied for one of these last week, already having 2 other Citi cards. Haven't heard anything yet...

Does anyone know of a way to check application status, short of calling Citi?

check citi app. status:

Phone: 888-201-4523 (7AM-7PM Central, Mon to Fri)

I don't know if there is a limit on the number of cards you have, but I think there is a limit on your credit line. Over the years I've had several Citibank cards, all of which have been consolidated into one - their Platinum Dividend card. As the accounts are consolidated, all the credit was added to the one open account. When I applied for the mtvU card a month or two ago, they called and said I was approved, but I'd have to transfer some of the credit from the Dividend card to the mtvU card. Apparently I had reached the "limit". Might be the case for some of you as well.

Citi limits you to 4 of their cards IIRC.

I already reach the limit. I think it is around $20,000.

You can always call and see if it is possible to convert one of your existing Citi cards to the MTVu card.

5% back on movies is pretty unique.

Does anyone know what I have to do to get the 2k points for GPA? It didn't seem to say in any of the stuff they sent me.

Edit: Whoops, already in the main post. Disregard.

You have to have a 4.0 GPA.

If you apply for this cc on the beachs of panama city during spring break they give you a free brown or pink mtvU t-shirt...

Another topic worth mentioning.

I need a CC but I can't decide whether the mtvu or citi platinum dividend is better. I mainly want to get free air miles and get a free trip. I was thinking about getting the CPD and then later apply for Delta Skymiles or the Citi "air miles" card. Another thing to consider is that the mtvu is fee free and Delta charges $75 on the second year. My budget is less than 7 k a year.

Just a FYI for those with this card (Citi mtvU) who would like to submit their transcripts - the address is below:

Citi mtvU Redemption Center
P.O. Box 142319
Irving, TX 75014-2319

I had the hardest time getting that address. I was transferred three times and waited for probably 30 minutes.

What do you have to include? Just your account (card) number/name?

Also, do you know if an unofficial transcript is ok or do we have to send an official one (which costs $)?

You have to pay for your transcripts? My university will print for free... I would assume that you would need the official, but you can call and ask.
You need to send account number with transcript and a letter simply stating that you would like (insert amount based on GPA) points.

My school charges $6 for an official transcript (also, it takes like 3 weeks). We get our grades online, so perhaps I can just print out the webpage with them.

nothing a xerox machine or photoshop cant handle...
i wouldnt give citi my true transcript unless it was under penalty of perjury

Know if there is requirement on the classes that have to be on there? I took 2 classs over the summer and got a 4.0. Might be worth me digging it out to get them points.

• You can earn bonus ThankYou Points for achieving good grades at college. ThankYou Points can be earned by submitting proof of grades up to two times per calendar year. ThankYou Points will be awarded as follows:
GPA ThankYou Points
2.50 - 2.99 250
3.00 - 3.49 500
3.50 - 3.99 750
4.0 2,000

For cardholders who submit grades from schools that do not award grades on the 4.0 scale, we will, at our sole discretion, award points comparable to those described in the table above.

• To be eligible for a ThankYou Points for good grades, you must attend an accredited college or university in the United States and must request the ThankYou Points and submit proof of grades within six months of the end of the semester in which the grades were earned. You must have used your card to make a purchase at least once in the three months preceding your request, and your Card Account must be open and not in default under any Card Agreement at the time your request is processed. These bonus points are not included in the annual calendar year cap and may take one to two billing cycles to post to your Card Account once your award has been processed.

so, wiredspider, I would guess that summer semester would work... good luck!

You'll be surprised to find out one day that the HR dept has access to these transcripts... (just speculating).

it looks like it takes 3000 points for a $15 statement credit. so it looks like that is more like 2.5% back at restaurants (or am i reading this wrong?)

5000 points gets you a $50 GC. So it's not really a 5% Cash Back rebate, but it's good as cash if you like to shop

and if you don't like to shop, what are you doing on FW?

, maybe i'll get a job out of it too?

anyone has the list of places where u can get the 5 points per dollar?

Are you allowed to keep your MTVU card even after you graduate? Or do they verify you're a current student every semester and force you to switch after you're not in school anymore?

EDIT: In other words, has anyone graduated and was still able to continue to use this credit card, even though you're not a student anymore?

Anyone know if you can convert from an existing citi card (say, dividend platinum) to this card?

geckoseiya said: anyone has the list of places where u can get the 5 points per dollar?

You get 5 points per dollar at:
all restaurants (Any that I have been to - even independent ones)
bookstore (including your university bookstore)
movie theaters
movie rental places
record stores

If you make a purchase at one of these places and you do not get the bonus points, just call CSR - in my opinion Citi has the best CSR department. Every single question has been answered and I have never really had to wait on hold.

So long as you are a student I would imagine that you would be able to switch to this card - just call and ask...

If you want more info on the card go Here

I have no idea about the thankyou points redemption. So this Mtv card's point system is the same as diamond preferred card, right. I remember that 10000 points could get you a 100 GC, can you get cash?

It's not 5% cash rebate, but still 5% rebate on movies, dining, etc, am I missing anything?

maybe a better question: has anyone applied and gotten this card even though they aren't a student at all?

Hmmm, is Amazon.com considered a "bookstore?"

does anyone know if graduate student counts?

magic168 said: Hmmm, is Amazon.com considered a "bookstore?"

Apparently yes!

From my recent mtvU card statement:

Merchant Name AMZ*Amazon Payments AMZN.COM/BILLWA XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Merchant Category Merchandise - BOOK STORES

And sure enough, I did earn the 5 points per dollar.

yes, very much so!
after the affiliate program discount, this gives a total of 11+% at Amazon.com!

now I guess the obvious question would be: "were you buying books?"

In this case, yes, however, I bought the SLK3000B antec case from Amazon.com a while back with my dividend card and my statement from that card showed Amazon.com listed as bookstore. So, I figured the mtvU card shouldn't be any different.

Here's the listing from my case purchase:
Merchant Name AMZ*SUPERSTORE AMZN.COM/BILLWA XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Merchant Category BOOK STORES

No, there is no limit to how many Citi cards you can have. They let you have "as many as your credit will allow."
