When on the promotion page make sure you click on the 'Open an Account Now' link near the top of the page that's in red bold. DO NOT click on the normal link closer to the bottom.
All that's required is that you open the account with $25 and make a monthly direct deposit to the account. Remember, a transfer from your ING Direct account to the Bank of America account counts as a direct deposit transaction.
I've done this once before (back in February) and it was flawless. I had my money by the end of April.
Here's the fine print: ---------------------- You will receive your $50 credit to your new account within 50 days of opening your new personal checking account online. Limit one $50.00 incentive per household every 60 days. Offer valid only for new checking accounts. Any applicable taxes are the responsibility of the account holder. Offer expires on 4/15/2006. Offer may be withdrawn or modified at any time without notice. For interest checking accounts the annual percentage yield is 0.10% on any balance. APY is accurate as of 7/25/2005. The rate may change after the account is opened. Fees could reduce earnings on the account. The $50.00 credit can only be made to your new account. This new account must be still open at this time to receive your $50.00 credit. ----------------------------------

That's not correct. Bank of America does a hard pull for new customers but not for existing customers. I know this because I have opened new accounts at BofA, and as long as your existing record with Bank of America is good, the account opening is almost automatic.

Does any one know what credit bureau BofA uses for California customers. I am asking because I already have way too many inquries on my Experian report, but almost none in the other two.

thanks, i've been waiting for a BoA deal. What is the procedure for setting up a direct deposit with ING?
You just have to create a link to the BOA checking account by sending a cheack of at least $1 to ING.

this deal is on all the time.. "Limit one $50.00 incentive per household every 60 days." the 60 days is actually the bottle neck of how many time you could jump in.. btw: BoA do NOT do hard pull for existing customer..from my previous three experiences(100+2*50)...

I have a question, would transfer of a balance from paypal, half.com and/or Amazon marketplace count as the direct deposit to wave the monthly fee? if so this sounds right up my alley...........additionally would there be some minimum amount to direct deposit or theoretically would .01 deposit be fine or not? Thanks for the help and thanks OP for posting the deal.

A dangerous game. There are numerous reports on FW detailing how credit card companies are initially inconsistent in classifying these transactions. Card companies frequently go back and reclassify these charges. The risk of cash advance fees + interest can easily outweigh the benifit of this convienence that's being offered.
Thanks OP, I was still eligible for the $50 bonus even though I already have a BOA checking acct. I just sent the opening money from my existing account.
They even had live chat so I could ask my questions before I opened the new acct.
That's a different code, with different dates, so this thread is NOT a repost.
I've done 3 of these promos, and hard pull was only on the FIRST account, when I was a new customer. Too bad they wised up and removed CampusEdge from eligibility, but it's still definitely worth it.
Thanks OP!

How long must I keep the account to avoid the "early closing" fee?
You guys all keep the account after you get the bonus? How can they let you have 3 checking accounts?

VA domiciled accounts (possibly others) are 180 days.
Anyone know how to change domicile for BofA? Do I have to close/reopen all my accounts and get new account numbers?
Then again, I think VA accounts have less in fees than NY (formerly Fleet) accounts.

Is it true that they allow multiple checking accounts at BoA and still allow $50 bonus on new account? What type of direct deposit needs to be done? Can I do a bill pay from my first checking account? Any idea on how long I can keep 2 checking accounts?

Isnt there also a $75 bonus when you open a checking account? I still have a coupon

CA has no such fee. It varies state by state. I closed an account as soon as I got a promotion with no repercussions.
Yes, you can get this promotion even if you already have a checking account. BofA occasionally has offers that are only for new customers, but those specfically say so.

According to the personal schedules of fees document released by BoA "Direct deposits are electronic deposits of periodic payments - such as salary, pension, Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits or other regular monthly income - made into your checking account through the automated clearing house (ACH) by your employer or other payer. Deposits you make, Online Banking transfers, wire transfers and other transfers you make between your deposit accounts with us are not considered direct deposits and do not qualify for the direct deposit discount."
This would mean that we would have to pay the monthly checking fee of $5.95 if we do not have other means to transfer. Transfer between 2 BoA accounts does not seem to be valid for free myaccess checking account.

So I should keep this account open after I get bonus if I plan to apply for more of these promotions from BofA in the future. Cause I don't like hard pulls on my credit report.

I think it has been reported on other threads that BofA take ING/ED/Paypal transfers as Direct Deposits. Don't know if they still do now. If they don't count, then I am closing the account after I get the bonus.

Well, you have to give Bank of America at least this ... they are fast.
I am an existing customer ... I submitted my online application for an additional checking account this morning, and when I went to the ATM at about 7:30, the account was already opened and linked to my Check Card and Online Banking.
Now if they will just deposit the $50.00 bonus that fast

Can i still get $50 when not applying online??
It doesnot let me apply online as i am not US citizen.
I wonder if I can do this anymore.. I think BoA hates me.

Applied, funded with credit card, hopefully it's processed as a purchase, when I make a purchase with MBNA Mastercard it shows up immediately in temp transactions, but nothing showed for this yet.
I heard an ad on the radio this afternoon for a bonus of $100 for opening a MyAccess Checking account w/ an initial deposit of $250. It said just to stop into any branch and mention the ad. So for anyone w/ a local BOA branch, this would be golden instead of the $50 offer.

Are you sure that this is not just a promotion at your local area.
I am sure you would have to mention the station name and show name to get it, so can you share that with us.
Thanks, I'm in the NW side of Chicago and haven't seen it. Going to open another bonus account before I close my CampusEdge one (full day tomorrow so I'll drop by Wednesday)
BOA is expanding in Chicago (still mostly near downtown), but I noticed that their ATMs give out $10 bills while others give out $20 bills lol

Got approval e-mail, when I click on: Print and sign your MyAccess Checking signature form link, nothing happens, it says IE cannot download from bankofamerica.com, I keep clicking - no signature form, does anybody know what the problem could be? I have Adobe 6.0, it says 5.0 or above required.

What is direct deposit? Direct deposit automatically places your paycheck, pension, Social Security, or other regular monthly income into your checking, savings, or Money Market account. It's convenient, secure, and saves trips to your banking center. Money Market account- ING Direct from BoA
