Totally awesome thread. I just did as instructed by Senior Member Storme and got the improvements and consolidations I wanted to my citi cards. First I called regular CSR and asked them to add a few promos. They refused. I called again and tried to consolidate to Drivers Edge from my existing cards. They refused. So I asked for rentention and told them that I was not happy and may want to cancel. So they sent me to account specialist. She was clear on what she could do. She first lowered my interest rate to below 10% on one of my cards and added 1.9% for 12 mos with fee. Next she consolidated into my Drivers Edge Promo card(0%for12mosw/no fees) and ballooned my CL to 20K from 4K. Thats all I need. Thanks you guys. |

Just had my first experience with Citi's retention dept. I tried a number of things - here's what I managed to get: 1) PremierPass Elite - annual fee was just charged, asked for refund, CSR said no, but could give me a $25 statement credit. 2) Diamond Preferred - complained about reduction in TYP for groceries from 5 to 2, asked for special, but all I got was the 3K TY points for $300 offer. Also received 2.9% APR on new purchases for 9 months, which seemed to come as a package with the 3K point offer. Nothing better available. 3) Citi AA - asked to close account and move credit to other card, was offered 1K miles + 5 miles per $ at supermarkets, drugstores and gas stations (5K max for the 4 bonus miles) for 12 months. So I'll charge $1250 at said stores and then close/consolidate the account before the annual fee hits. CSR also said I would have 37 days after annual fee posts on any account (AA or PP Elite) to close or convert the account in order to get the fee refunded. So all in all I'm happy I made the call. |

How long did you have your PP Elite for? I had mine for less than a month before downgrading it to regular PP right after the first statement closed, and I see a -$75 balance for this month already. Now I hope they don't take 25K points back on the next statement.... |

I've had it for a year now - charged a lot of flights to it, so have received my share of Ty points form it. Am still waiting for a number of flight points to come through before converting this one for good. Anyways, I like the card, just not the $75 fee. Have not heard of Citi taking back points for closing or converting cards. Not sure though. |

Just called today to cancel my AAdvantage business and I was offered 2,500 miles. The most they've ever offered me before was 1,000 so it was a nice surprise. |

Was offered 5 miles/dollar on gas/grocery(/drugstores?) for a year, wanted to close an AAdvantage gold MC. Perhaps not worth paying anual fee for me. Concerning the "rule" for this card, that one can cancel it within 37 days after the annual fee charged to get the fee reversed -- I am curious about the following possibility: The terms when I opened this acct promised 5000 bonus miles after "the first anniversary". It seems logical that these would post at the end of the billing cycle having the anniversary date in it. Which is definitely < 37 days from that date, as well as from the date when the annual fee is charged. So... moral issues neglected for a moment.. it looks like I can then close the card within 37 days after beeing charged annual fee, get the annual fee reversed, yet bonus 5000 miles posted. Anyone tried this game? |
