Remember people, Discover will not fight for you on any wrongful charges or purchase issues. So if some internet store screws you, you're on your own- no charge backs, no investigations , no nothing... Something to consider in general, but especially with a program such as this. Not for me. A shady online bookstore mysteriously charged me $10 a couple months back. I called up Discover, they credited me back the amount instantly, and they investigated it. Granted, it was only 10 bucks and they never did tell me the outcome of the investigation, but I didn't care and didn't feel like calling back since there was no permanent harm done. |

I dont see how any credit card would make business if they didn't offer some sorta no fraud liability and such with the amount of fraud going on these days its almost a staple, I remember when VISA first started it.

I don't think so. Any online merchant is OK. The fine prints did not mention anything about their online partners or need to go through their links. This is not the 10% Staples.com thing that you have to link from discovercard.com

Maybe they want you to use this:
"For an extra level of protection, use our free secure online account numbers—software that gives you a 'disposable' account number for every online purchase. Your actual account number is never revealed to anyone—making your personal information virtually invisible." |

Just signed up--this is awesome because I'll be getting 5% back on eating out (from this promo) AND online purchases for a little less than a week. I love it when they overlap.
Thanks OP! |

For those you who cant get it ;pJust a couple months ago, I had an issue with a company-"Great Fun", which was charging me for a monthy "membership" without my knowledge. Discover basically told me to go take a flying f@#$. I refuse to use them now. I got scammed not only by some stupid shopping scam company that I didn't authorize and Discover refused to help... screwed both ways. |

Meanwhile, these 5% deals are nice but looking at my last statement, where I got $14.88 in "get more" CashBack because of my dining out and 59c in regular Cash Back on a few hundred dollars of purchases elsewhere, reminds me why I rarely use it when there is not a special deal.
And I am also finding out how many restaurants do NOT take Discover when I try to use it to get the 5%. |

Not bad at all, besides the fact that I personally do not like to deal with Discover. The key word in sieglerc's post was "extra". Actually, if you are not up to the 1% level yet, it's much closer to an extra $25. |

Signed up! Great opportunity to "rescue" the $8.98 bonus-left-over on my account. After careful calculation, I need to spend $209.91 online to reach $20 reward. Easy job cause the after-thanksgiving sale is included in the period. Thanks to OP. I haven't touched my Dcard for 2 years because all the other cards are offering 1% to 5% cash/reward points. And like some people mentioned, their protection is subpar. Reminds me to use one time # for weird online merchants. |

completely false, dont post this BS and mislead readers just bc you dont know how to handle a cc dispute. you have the same dispute rights with discover as with any other cc issuer. YOU had bad experience, dont make it appear as if they have different policies than other ccs
where do you come up with this info?? |

Nope, just happy to be able to get 5% on dining and 5% on online shopping--both items that I don't get 5% back from any of my other cards.
Ooo, forgot to add that I found that refilling my Starbucks card online has counted for restaurants. If it also counts for online purchases, then it looks like I'll be able to extend the 5% through the end of the year (I doubt they would double up the Cash Back during the overlap, so that isn't what I'm saying at all).
Okay, sorry to go OT. |

That is why you shouldn't use the word " overlap" here. I was going to use the "online dining" joke but found out demingy had already used it. D#@$!
Good luck shopping this month! Eps on BF. |

I called their 800 number since I knew that I wasn't eligible (Platinum Gas Card). I was offered the usual $5 back on any $100 purchase made by the end of December. Strange thing was that the CSR said she also signed me up for the 5% off Restaurant purchases made by the end of November. I had tried to sign up for this offer when it first came out and was told that my card was not eligible. Strange. |

I had a bad experience with Discover card about a year ago for some fraudulent activity on my credit card made with an online vendor. I was out $2100 for 8 months and had to call Discover card fraud center multiple times before I got any help. I actually had one of my friends (an attorney call on my behalf) until they would even investigate. I certainly will not use Discover card for any online puchases. In fact, I do not own a discover card anymore after my bad experience (I had a card for about 7 years prior to cancelling). Just thought I chime in with my expereince about Discover's lack of help when disputing fraud. |

Absolutely the opposite of my experience with Discover. Sorry... |
