good deal. and similar to the previous restaurant promo (5% on $500). I would guess that you could buy gift cards from retail merchants (online, of course)to push your total up to $500. In fact, it would be quicker & cleaner to just order gift cards totaling $500 from a retailer that one frequents instead of ordering stuff here & there & keeping track of total. (I don't usually use Discover, I wouldn't want to exceed $500 threshhold before switching to another card ) |

Just today I had to dispute a charge of $540 and my phone call to Discover came in at 4 minutes exactly, talking to two people, resulting in a temporary credit for the full amount while they try to reclaim from the merchant. That's top-notch service by any definition. |

irobot said:I called their 800 number since I knew that I wasn't eligible (Platinum Gas Card). I was offered the usual $5 back on any $100 purchase made by the end of December. Strange thing was that the CSR said she also signed me up for the 5% off Restaurant purchases made by the end of November. I had tried to sign up for this offer when it first came out and was told that my card was not eligible. Strange. My Platinum Gas Card was only offered $5 by the end of November, and no restaurant promotion. Just throwing out another data point for anyone about to call in. |

WEll maybe if discover sold a CAR that would be a issue. Also since this promo isn't exactly toward any one discover card I'm not quite sure I understand you. |

Here's a question.
Since the previous Restaurant promo goes until 11/30, and this one starts on 11/25:
Are there any restaurant web-sites that you can purchase from that would technically qualify as both an online and restaurant purchase from 11/25-11/30?
Wishful thinking, I'm sure...

Plenty of the restaurant chains offer gift cards that you can purchase online, even McD's. But not sure if it qualifies as online retail...I guess there's only one way to find out during that time peirod. I'll probably have maxed out the restaurant by then anyhow |

flid said:Thanks. Just signed up. The confirmation page told me it's from 11/1 to 12/31, not 11/25. Besides, it's a little vague about the wording. I can also interpret it as Cash Back bonus up to $500. If the promotion only applies to purchases up to $500, it's not much special and it's hard to believe DC restricts earnings up to $25. My 5% CashBack Bonus Confirmation email said the promo is good from 11/25-12/31. I think $25 is the max bonus you could earn, based on the word "on" in the phrase "you'll get 5% CashBack Bonus on up to $500 in purchases."

Anybody know a way to double dip 5% Discover with another program reward like mypoints, Ebates or upromise? Perhaps buying a giftcard for the max $500 too? |

I have 5% restranrant Cash Back from my discover card all the time. They call it a "plus" card. I guess it is good for people who dine out a lot. But these "plus" cards aren't qualified for this holiday season offer. |
