Discover Gas, Home Improvement, or Restaurant card members can be eligible for this promotion!
If you have one of their specialty cards (ie gas, home improvement, or restaurants) you are not eligible for the get more promotions without making a simple call. You can pretty easily switch to the basic platinum card which is eligible for this get more promotion. All without getting another card. Once this promotion is over, you can then switch back to your previous program.

Yes. This is exactly the question that I have.
Will the 5% CashBack apply to, say, a Paypal payment for an eBay item? Is that considered an "online purchase"?
The fine print is a bit vague.

And, just to add yet another question to this thread:
Would an online transaction for the purchase of my automobile insurance count?

geico's first payment can be done with a credit card. i know cause my first one was with my AMEX card. I just paid my second 6 month installment and had to do it direct from my bank account. You can sign up for the geico CC and use that, but not worth it for me. |

Their site is really slow right now, but I just signed up. I just need a few dollars to reach $20 CBB and 0.25% wasn't tempting me to use the card. |

Disputing with Discover is like any other CC. Any problems would be with the person handling the dispute. Odd this is still an issue. |

Here's what Discover said in a message about their promo:
My message:I am signed up for the 5% bonus for purchases made online. Will my Discover Gift Card purchases available from this site be eligible for this bonus? Or does the purchase online only apply to certain purchases and stores?
Discover's reply:
Thank you for your message regarding the holiday CashBack Bonus promotion. All Internet purchases qualify for the promotion, up to the cap of $500 in purchases. |

Does anyone have any experience with the CashBack with regards to online gift certificates, like at Amazon.com or something? Do they distinguish whether the online purchase is an actual product or if it's a gift card?

Typically the key with discover deals has been the merchant - not the particular purchase.
Would guess Amazon gift certificates from Amazon would be fine, but I'm more leery of Galleria or other GC purchase sites. |

My wife and I have decided our best utilization of this promotion is for both of us to buy $500 of WalMart gift cards from WalMart.com. We buy most of our groceries and gas from WalMart and sam's club and this is a great way to maximize savings. Plus, we get the 5% Cash Back for a few months of groceries purchases right now. Only down side is going to be having $1000 tied up in GCs for the next few months. |
