scripta said: excellent thread.

One more thing I'd be interested in seeing is whether the issuers report to the credit bureaus on a regular basis even if there was no activity / no statement generated.

This indeed is a good idea. personally the only cards ive never seen that aren't reported monthly are storeish cards like my Bestbuy CC and Dell DPA, all other major banks I got report monthly tho

Does anyone have any info on Juniper? If so, please post here and/or here. Thanks!

nonchalant said: Anyone have any luck recently w/ chase BT'ing to checking accts?Yes, I just got a Chase Sony card. Called up CS and they were able to do a BT right to my DCU checking account over the phone with no problem.

I signed up for a Chase card offer received in the mail. It said 0% BT until Sept 07 plus 0 balance transfer fees. Ireceived my card today and it says 3% (min 5 max 75). Icalled CSR and they said that that only applies to the BTsubmited with the application.

Is this normal with Chase cards?

edit: the nice csr said she could not BT to checking, but that Icould use the check enclosed and write it to myself and deposit it, and it will be treated as a Bt, not cash advance. fee of $75 will still apply.

Great idea to centralize info. Probably should put a link in the Forum FAQ.

nonchalant, I think that is a common confusion. Although of course it is specific to each promotion, generally I have seen that the 0% BT fee applies ONLY to the initial one submitted with the application (and thus the reason many call to do the BT the way they want when they open the card).

I have reallocated some credit from a Citi AT&T Universal Rewards card to a Citi Simplicity Rewards. Both cards have the 0% BT available for the first 12 months, out of which only about 6 months have passed. To my surprise, after the reallocation, when I try to do a BT online on the Simplicity card, I see "There are no offers available online at this time." After speaking to a CS rep and her manager, they both confirmed there are no BT offers available at this time for my Simplicity card. And although this contradicts the initial terms when I opened the account, they said they can't do anything about it.

Did something similar happened to somebody else, or is this a new glitch in their system?
Any advice on how to still do a BT on the Simplicity card is appreciated.

P.S. Before the credit reallocation, I DID have the 0% BT offer on the Simplicity card online.

I would continue up the management chain until this is resolved. Failing that, you may want to put the CL back on the AT&T card & do the BT on that, since that is supposed to have the same BT offer.

FYI, a Discover card CSR told me that the max you can raise your CL without a hard pull is 25K (I think it used to be 15K not too long ago). If you are denied you have to wait at least 30 days. FYI, my CL was 14K asked for 20K was granted increase to 17K.

golf247 said: Another question about BT checks. If married and each person has individual bank accounts, can you write a BT check to spouse and bypass cash advance fees (independent of CC issuer)?

My wife was able to make a BT check out to me from her BoA card. It was treated as a regular BT.

I was wondering if people would like to start getting more specific on which cards can be converted to other ones for each of the issuers. For example from my experience, AMEX Costco card can only be converted to either AMEX Blue or AMEX Blue Cash. If this doesn't get much attention, I might start another thread to get more people involved, since this seems like they type of information you get from experience rather asking CSRs, answer vary, I initially was told that Costco card does not change into anything.

on my Chase Platinum Visa (7.99% fixed) I can do balance transfers online:

6.99% Fixed APR until the balance is paid in full with no transfer fee. (Respond by: 7/31/06)
4.99% Fixed APR until the balance is paid in full. (Respond by: 7/31/06)
0% Fixed APR until the first day of your billing cycle that includes 12/1/06. (Respond by: 7/31/06)
5.99% Fixed APR until the balance is paid in full with no transfer fee. (Respond by: 8/31/06)
3.99% Fixed APR until the balance is paid in full. (Respond by: 8/31/06)
0.99% Fixed APR until the first day of your billing cycle that includes 1/1/07. (Respond by: 8/31/06)

unfortunately, I have a little bit of a balance i'm paying off, so it may not be wise for me to take advantage of any of these offers

bump to keep thread from achiving.

Added several of the more recent disscution threads to quick summary.

Can we add "credit reporting agency" to the list? Or is it not always the same?

scripta said: Can we add "credit reporting agency" to the list? Or is it not always the same?

CRA an issuer pulls varies (usually) by state.

Searchable database here http://creditboards.com/forums/index.php?autocom=creditpulls

I called Chase yesterday to reallocate credit lines (I actually have 3 or 4 lines I want to combine), and upon attempting the first one, the CSR said that I needed to call back between 7-10est to speak to their credit dept. I've allocated lines with them before with no problems.

Anyone have any idea what would cause this?

I recently opened 3 accounts with Chase (1 biz, 2 personal)...would that have an impact?

Juniper just sent me some BT checks I can make them out to myself, will take advantage of that.0% to Jan 24 2007

When I got my first two Chase cards, I called for a CLI on one of them before activating. I let the CSR talk me into a reallocation instead. A few days later, I decided to reverse the reallocation and CLI as I originally intended. The CSR lowered the CL on the card I reallocated to, and then told me he couldn't put it on the card it originally came from. OK, then put it back on the card you just took it from. "I can't do that either, the system won't let me. Did you already do this recently?" The problem was that I hadn't waited long enough between reallocations. The credit department fixed it for me the next day.

I just spoke to 2 separate CSRs at Chase (1 biz, 1 personal). Despite what is posted above, they will not allow me to allocate lines between biz/personal & vice versa.

Oh well, I just got a sweet BT offer on a biz card too...but the limit isn't there.

EDIT: Nevermind. I found what I needed.

Do we have a list that notes which CRA each issuer gets its reports from when you apply for new accounts? I'm currently loaded up on Experian and Transunion pulls, so I'm looking for an issuer that pulls Equifax reports (other than AMEX). If we don't have that info in any one place, I can start updating the Quick Summary from the pulls on my credit report.

How about linking it for the rest of us?

ThursdaysChild said: How about linking it for the rest of us?

Sure thing. The best resource I found is here. It looks like pulls may not be 100% consistent within issuers and may depend on the actual card applied for. The bad news for me is that the big issuers that pull Equifax seem to be AMEX, HSBC, and GEMB. I don't need store credit or a secured card -- and I'm just getting back in AMEX's good graces after a debacle while I was in law school (which was removed from my credit reports).

This is mostly a bump. I just spent quite a bit of time editing the Quick Summary (as thanks for the brilliant AOR info and other gems at FW finance).

In addition to new formatting (feedback welcome), I added fields such as:
- App-o-rama notes (primarily the number of cards from each issuer that's likely to be approved)
- BT to LOC w/ app (tricky since many lines of credit don't have a 15-16 digit credit card number, and useful as part of the application since it probably yields a higher credit limit)
- names of some of the personal & business cards (and former companies or brands)
- Co-branded cards (to help avoid applying for too many from the same issuer during an AOR)

Other information that might be useful: typical BT fee, best offers for existing cardholders, plus filling in lots of the blanks (e.g. here's an easy task for lurkers: add more co-branded cards, e.g. via CardOffers or http://www.creditcardoffersa-z.com (I think I covered Bank of America, and I added a few for others.)

(I'll also throw in a question for forum regulars: what do folks think of adding a glossary thread? I'd be happy to start it -- but don't want to do so if it would instantly draw lots of red for reasons that I've missed.)

Updated AMEX CLI info in the quick summary. CLIs are allowed every 30 days not every 6 months.

Awesome thread! Does anyone have an idea about US Bank? They have the northwest airlines cards too...

I didn't research US Bank since the CC has a 3% BT fee with NO CAP. The 0% offer is only for 6 months, so the card is worthless for an AOR.

See http://www.usbank.com/cgi_w/cfm/credit/ns2_0.cfm which links to
https://applications.usbank.com/oad/catalog/terms.controller?step=display&locationCode=8069&productId=20

Excellent info !

There was a 0% for 12 months no fee from USBank (phone/mail app only)... it came in one of those coupon mailers. I'd dig up the code, but I am pretty sure it expired 12/31.

I updated the quick summary to note that I received a new WaMu card with a $30k credit line. I had requested about $32k in balance transfers (0%, 18 months, no fee, targeted offer) and they transfered 29k and left 1k open on the credit line.

I also tried to consolidate this line with another wamu line I had (old providian card with $17.5k cl) and they said it could not be done.

i updated summary. had a 0% BT offer from CapOne. paid off, but then requested a check 10 months into offer, and they sent one to me in my name. no fee.

Can someone with permission update the OP? I just did a BT with my new Discover Gas Card into my checking account. I didn't request the BT at the time of the application. I asked about it when I called to activate my card. I didn't plan on requesting one, because in the application there was a BT fee. Once they said there is no BT fee and 0% APR on BT's until March 08, I jumped on it.

This was my first BT, so I was a little worried about it not actually going through, but after a couple of weeks, the money finally showed up. They butchered the name of my bank, which worried me about them actually approving the deposit, so I called my bank and gave them the heads up on what had happened.

Let me know if any other details about the BT are needed to make the change to the OP.

Brett

Citi ____: when requesting online, if it does NOT ask you to fill out a form, then it gets approved with only a soft inquiry (if it does present the form, just cancel to avoid the hard inquiry)
Discover : can ask for immediate by phone (soft pull); if that's not enough can ask for reconsideration (hard pull; and my result in a lower offer!); over $15K may require a hard pull (dlr3)
US Bank _: by phone

Time between CLI ___:

I received BT check from HSBC. It says that I can fill in the bank or store name and the amount I wish to pay.
Can I use it to deposit into my checking account?
Did anyone try this before?

I used to work for US Bank and Elan, so in answer to the question in the quick summary, yes Elan is part of US Bank. For the most part, all the policies, fees, etc. are the same for US Bank and Elan cards. More experienced CSR's can field calls for both cards without missing a beat, although CSR's tend to be specialized to one or the other. Elan is "better" to work for, even though it's all in the same building, so you'll probably get a better CSR with Elan than US Bank, since everyone starts out doing US Bank calls and switches to Elan if they're good enough. The REI and Gymboree co-brands fall pretty much in line with the other US Bank cards as well, but they do have a couple co-brands (Northwest Airlines and Harley Davidson) that are on a separate system and can have some different policies.

Speaking more directly to the topic at hand, I'll try to do my best to remember everything, and this information may have changed:

To reach a human ___: I believe just keep hitting 0 after calling the number on your card
Change card type ___: yes, though possibly not all permutations
Reallocate CL ______: not through a CSR, I never saw it done but I imagine a supervisor could do it
Max # of cards _____: not aware of a set limit, but I would guess there is one
BT Checks __________: yes, most have fees but you could get some 0% ones if you're lucky (I think the welcome checks ALWAYS have a fee so you'd have to have the card for awhile before getting better checks)
BT to checking _____: Not a direct BT but I think you can do it using the checks
BT to LOC w/ app ___: not sure
CLI w/o hard pull __: soft pull after 3 months, can ask online or over phone (also can get automatic increases); CSR can send request to credit dept for hard pull if desired
Time between CLI ___: 3 months
Co-branded cards ___: REI, Gymboree, Harley Davidson, Northwest Airlines

I could not change NWA into anything else. Which changes are allowed?

EugeneV said: I could not change NWA into anything else. Which changes are allowed? NWA is on a separate system, and I never worked for the NWA card team, so I'm not sure what changes are possible for the NWA cards. In general I don't think you can switch between co-branded cards, but you can switch from one type of US Bank card to another very easily (like from a regular platinum to the cash rewards card).

NJObserver - I just opened a HSBC Card account and also got the BT checks shortly after the new card arrived, however it was faster to just call the customer service number on the back of the card and HSBC will ACH the BT funds direct to your checking account (no check needed) - no wait for the check or possible check hold from your bank or credit union.

Updated the following, per my recent AOR experiences

National City
To reach a human ___: 800.762.0974 (personal) 877.459.9801 (business)
Change card type ___:
Reallocate CL ______: YMMV
Max # of cards _____:
BT Checks __________:
BT to checking _____: no, at least not via ACH
BT to LOC w/ app ___: yes (in theory anyway; the application asks for an address)
CLI w/o hard pull __:
Time between CLI ___:
Personal cards _____:
Business cards _____:

Just called Discover regarding a CLI.. they said they cant do it without a hard pull until the account has been open for 6 months.

I just called Discover. It's going to be 6 months in 5 days since I was approved for the card back in December. I couldn't resist the temptation so I called and requested a CLI. The lady then started reading a disclaimer stating that they were gonna pull my credit report, so I decided not to do it. I'll call back next week. I'll keep you posted.
