My experience is that HSBC and promo codes don't work well together. I used a DM100 code for $35.00 when opening an online savings account in September, called and verified it valid before use, and now cannot get them to pay the bonus. They want me to send them documentation about the code.

Do we have some documentation about the code? Can someone post a scanned version of flyer, email etc?
I was planning on merging my EmigrantDirect and INGDirect funds into this account, but there is a $15 Funds Transfer-In charge for each transfer (that's $30 man!). It seems like there are a lot of charges and underlying fees for this account if you actually take the time to read the Terms and Charges page. They even charge you $25 if you close the account within 6 months of opening it. I think I'll just keep mine at good old EmigrantDirect, although the ATM card here would be a nice touch.
* No transaction fees if you transfer money into your HSBC accounts from your non-HSBC accounts * A $3.00 transaction fee will be charged for each outbound transfer from your HSBC accounts to your non-HSBC accounts * No transaction fees will be charged for HSBC OnlineSavings, Domestic Private Banking or HSBC Premier customers
So I guess we can move money between ING and HSBC OnlineSavings. Am I right? The other question is: if I want to move from ING to HSBC, should I push from ING or PULL from HSBC? which way is better? and how about move from HSBC to ING?

Yes, you can move money from any bank to HSBC. There are no fees whatsoever. I have had a HSBC Online Savings account for a few months now and have moved money from ING, Emigrant, USAA, Compass Bank, and ETrade... no fees at all. As a note, I usually pull from HSBC; however, there is no particular reason as to why I do so.

Where do people come up with this stuff?? There are no fees!
Ok so I cracked and opened a new account with them. :-D After hearing everyone add that they have never been charged for having funds transferred into their HSBC account, it sounds like a pretty nice deal. You can even specify if you want an ATM or Debit card assigned to the account. To keep myself from blindly spending the money, I chose the ATM card. It will be nice in case of any emergencies.
As far as the charges go though, I guess they could technically charge you if they wanted to for transfering money into their account since it's in the Terms and Charges disclosure that you agree to when opening the account. They do have conflicting information between the two above links however. I'm not sure why a bank would charge someone for bringing money to them, other than being overly greedy. Does anyone know about any underlying charges for closing my Emigrant and ING accounts? They've both been open for about 3 or 4 months now so I'm not too sure. Thanks for your help in advance.
External pull, what exactly does that mean? How is that set up? If I needs some money from my HSC account in a week or so.. how do I get it into my checking account? Do they send you a check by mail?
I have an ING account and I can transfer in and out with no fees.. That doesn't seem to hold true with HSBC.

Everything with HSBC Online is free, pushes and pulls.
When you login to HSBC and TAKE money out of your checking, you are pulling. When you send money OUT of HSBC, you are pushing. All are free, I'm setting up my first pushes & pulls this month, and they have a great setup.
