It should be okay. The system will ask you to enter your passport informaiton if you are not a US resident.

pkulk said:Old question: Anyone here opened this account that is not a permanent resident (green card holder) OR US Citizen?
Alternatively: any non-resident aliens (not little green men from Mars) open this account?
Thanks

Approximately 45 days, but you lose it if you close the account within 6 months.

It has been about two weeks since I started the application process, and my $25 have already been credited to my account.

How long does it take to get the email with the username and password? I applied 3 days ago and haven't gotten it yet. I emailed and they said o wait for it.

You get a snail mail with your 'customer id'. Then you get another snail mail with your password. Once you have both, you can go to the website, login using the customer id and password, and change both to something that is easier for you to remember. It took about a week for me to get both in the mail.

Same as one in the original post - "start" (minus the quotes of course)

Many thanks for this info OP! Thanks to FW, we have received $120 total (($25*2)+($35*2)) from HSBC Bank. We deposited a total of $4.00, and it took MAYBE 10 minutes to setup the accounts. Can't beat that! In addition, with HSBC paying 4.25% interest, we have shifted several thousand from ING to HSBC. Thanks again everyone, and Merry Christmas!

Question about the ATM card,
Is it free?
Since there is no HSBC ATM in my area, I did not require it when I applied online.
Does it have any other use?

I think they charge a $1 to use their ATM card. Meanwhile not only is it free with GMAC, but they reimburse fees. From reading other threads, it sounds like the HSBC atm card is handy overseas if you travel.

Co-ask, would someone anwser it, thanks

$1 per use? per year? i signed up for one thinking it was free, but if it isn't i'd rather cancel it.
