mrng said:How do I get this card. I called up the number and they are offering Chase Platinum and not the Chase Rewards Plus mastercard...I tried twice ? Anyone ?

I just applied tonight. The CSR was Indian but very easy to understand. She did keep referring to this card as the Chase Rewards Platinum card rather than the 'Plus' card. However, when I asked her to describe the reward program, it was the same program as outlined in this thread. Namely, 5 points per dollar on gas, groceries, drugstores. 1 point everywhere else. 75,000 point annual point cap. If you are not sure you are applying for the right card, just take a minute and ask the CSR to detail the rewards program.

Yes thats exactly what they were offering....so is the Chase Platinum ,

the Chase Rewards Plus Mastercard or Chase Rewards Plus Visa ? Can you confirm wooben .

Also why would he use a new name for this card now ? Me Confused.

Thanks.

I got the Mastercard, but you get whatever you ask for, I think. Just ask the CSR questions if you are confused. They are obligated to make sure you know exactly what you are getting into. Before you get too far in that app process ask them about the rewards program and ask them whether they are setting you up for a MC or VISA. If you can't understand the CSR, hang up and call back and try another one. Ask, ask, ask.

I just got mine and it was MasterCard and I did not ask, just assumed it would be this as that was what the ad said with that phone number. Also got a $25k limit

I went ahead and ordered mine.

When I applied the CSR kept referring Chase Rewards Platinum Mastercard. I was not sure what I would receive. I just got my card and it is a Rewards Mastercard.

Had my wife start using the card this week and noticed this while checking my account online. Under description for activity at two Supermarkets it says "other" Would that mean they don't qualify as grocery stores? Hoping that is not the case or this will end up being a complete waste of time getting this card

MARKET BASKET 00000SC7(Other)
STOP & SHOP #015 SJ6(Other)

Thats not good news. I just activated mine and was going to Demoulas/Market Basket, Stop and Shop, and CVS all to get 5% back. Also I logged onto the Chase site and there is $1 pending and I haven't even used the card yet.

alert mods

Could anyone who has been using this card tell us what it must say under description to get the 5%. Have not tried at CVS yet but will be very bummed if no 5% from them. CVS and the 2 Supermarkets I listed above were the main reason for getting this card. I charge my gas to my work so cannot take advantage of the gas part

alert mods

As a chase cash plus holder I can assure you that transactions made at grocery stores show up on your online statement as other but you will still earn 5% back. Granted some stores may show up as other like Target and WalMart where they may or may not be truly coded as a supermarket. If you have held another card that offered bonus points at supermarkets, gas stations, and drugstores and they earned that particular store earned the bonus promotion than it will almost definately still earn the bonus promotion on the Rewards Plus since it is how the merchant is coded by visa or mastercard. Stores that I have found count for the 5X points include CVS, Eckerd, Rite Aid, Giant, Whole Foods, Genaurdis, Acme, Shoprite, BP gas station, Shell Gas, as well as many 7-elevens since the ones I frequent code themselves as gas stations. Wawa is not considered a grocery store nor is Drugstore.com.

On another note if the transaction has posted to your credit card you can call chase customer service up and ask them what the store is coded as so for the stores in question they will tell you whether they are coded under the category that earns 5%. You have to ask about each specific store and can only do this if it has shown up on your posted transactions.

alert mods

Yes, Joe is absolutely correct...so scott and all you others...take a "chill pill" (lol) and relax...all my supermarket transactions done at my local supermarket, showed as "other" on the website...but when you get your actual statement, you will see they were credited with the full 5% in points, value (they show your total points for Supermarket/Drug Stores/Gas Stations seperately from your 1% points. My drug store purchases also showed as other, but got the 5%...gas i don't buy (live in Manhattan..no car..lol) however, from what i hear, most gas stations will qualify)...So, not to worry!

alert mods

Thanks Craig an Joe, Just got a little worried when I saw them classified as other. My wife just got back from stocking up on things from CVS and between that and the food purchases I have already made about $50 in the week I have had the card. Will now go out tonight and blow it on some liquid "chill pills"

alert mods

LOL Scott...an excellent idea! I think i will have a few myself...lol. Yes, and as Joe said, if you got the 5% at the stores you use, using your Citi Dividend Card then you can be sure they will also be that way with the Chase because it has to do with the way the store is "coded". Just about any supermarket, grocery store, drug store or regular gas station should come up with the "coding" for the 5%.

Just applied. The CSR lady was Indian and was very easy to understand and very thorough. She repeated pretty much everything I told her. She also kept referring to the card was "the Chase Platinum card", but I asked her to talk about all the details and it matched up with the one in the OP description. And yeah.. she went through all the different rates.. that took a long time!

I asked about the purchase protection and extended warranty but the only thing she could confirm was the double extended warranty.

I'll get a response from Chase in the mail within 30 days.

My whole call took about 26 minutes.

alert mods

very good bmw chicken (i like your handle...lol) i would wait until during the week, but if you call: 1-888-338-2586 on Monday, and type in your social sec # the automated voice will likely tell you that your application is being processed. Any day from Tuesday on, if you check it, it will likely tell you that your application has been approved (in my case, on the 2nd business day, it told me that) once you hear that, the card should arrive in about 5 to 7 business days.
The card is a Platinum Card with Platinum Benefits....I can tell you that if she opened a Mastercard for you, you will definately have the Purchase Protection...if she opened a Visa, you won't...but with either Master or Visa you get the extended warranty of up to 1 yr. The mastercard also has a few other minor perks the Visa doesn't have, like stolen luggage protection, and luggage delay coverage....That's why i prefer the mastercard version...they still give all the perks standard with gold/platinum cards...Visa only gives the whole "shabang" at the Visa Signature level card....

alert mods

PS: Both Master and Visa give you the "travel" insurance and the auto rental insurance coverage (collission damage waiver).....and both offer "assist" services when you are in foreign countries....

alert mods

Sorry, I was looking only at OP's postings and didn't notice mathfaster's post about the limits. It's still pretty good, but ignore this if you're looking for the Rewards only card...Here's what I saw in my circular this week:

Chase Cash Plus Rewards Mastercard (name is switched around compared to OP's).
$50 Cash Back after first purchase (5,000 points that can be redeemed for 1% Cash Back or $50 gift cert). Everything else is the same.

Call 1-888-787-0329 and the bonus code is 362. Offer valid until 02/28/06.

I saw this in the coupon section also, but it is not exactly the same. The one I saw said a maximum of 30,000 points could be earned per year.
