If you have a Discover card, this is a pretty fun perk. You need to log into the account center to access the catalog, but there are over 150 designs, there is no charge for the new card. I'll still use the card that gives me the best bonus, but it's pretty cool. I got the Space Shuttle one...

Woop-de. My Visa allows me to upload any pic I want and create a card from it. Up to three free designs per year.

My First National Bank of Omaha allows me to do the same, but it's only free for the first four designs.
Thanks OP It's a good way to tell different discover cards apart (2 of my own + my wife's).
Could not change design for restaurant card on-line - had to do it over the phone. Photo of a wolf seems to be a good way to distinguish the restaurant card from other discovers
Too bad citibank does not have this option (they only let you put your photo on the card). If discover improves their Cash Back program(by adding 5% on everyday purchases) then may be citi will offer different card designs to stay competitive.

That was fun. With multiple Discover Card, it will be easy to pick the right one to use and they are cute too.
I wish Chase did the same with their cards. Their default one is really ugly. Anyway, thanks OP.

I struggle to understand why anyone cares what their credit card looks like, or checks, or cellphone faceplate, or cellphone ringtone, etc, etc.. I'm thinking this maybe a gen X thing (or gen Y or whatever generation is currently under 30). Does anyone over the age of 30 with less-trivial things to worry about (mortgage, job, family, etc.) care?

Take your meds and shut up. What other people want on their credit cards, cellphones or bodies is none of your concern.

Same reason why people care what their car looks like, or their clothes look like (when they're wearing them), or their hair looks like...

If you have nothing positive to offer, beat it!
Give 'em 'ELL...Some people have to blow on about "I can't understand these kids with their hula-hoops and crack-pipes.
Just another "Coot-Rant" we don't need in these forums.
I'm not losing sleep over the credit card design but I like the idea of being able to pick one or even better having one of your uploaded picture on it. I could get a pic of my kids and family on it which is more useful to me than the default blue pattern they have currently.
Comparison with the cars isn't that good IMO. The better you want your car to look, the more expensive it gets usually. Not really succh cost considerations here. Option to change look on the card is usually a free service (like it is here for Discover). For credit cards, what most people here care about first is the financial benefits of them. Given that, distant second is the look.
Won't make me change an ugly credit card if I like the financial features. It's just a plus. Sure it's fluff but isn't having the choice to how your credit card look like a positive thing assuming all other things are the same? Are more options not better than less? Oh well. To each their own. Feel free to have as blend a card as you'd like
Anyway, that made me send an email to chase customer service to request more card design options hehe. Not holding my breath but who knows. I mentioned I liked other credit cards that did this hehe
I am over 30 and am proud to have a Star Trek cc. Granted I haven't used it in years but I keep it around for the perks if I am ever in Vegas. Besides it is a good coversation starter.

Sounds like you could use a good dose of your own medicine, bub.
ScrawneyWallet, what exactly is the problem with caring how one's card looks?
It's free.
Do you choose a color when you buy a car, or have the dealer select one for you at random? After all, a car is simply a means of transportation.
It would be one thing if Discover charged for this, but they don't.
Why worry about a job or mortgage? You should have a plan for both of these, and if you're worried, perhaps you should be paying more attention to other threads in the Finance forum.
