wxl31 said: Applied by automated phone system for the Associated Bank Cash Rebate card using 1-877-577-9485. Received my card today. Card is silver and green and is printed with "Associated Bank Cash Rebate". However, on the paper the cards were stuck to, it says "Associated Bank Platinum Card". The two have different reward programs.

During activation, asked CSR to clarify what card I had. She said only 1% Cash Back on all purchases (platinum card). Escalated to supervisor and he said the first CSR was mistaken, that I had received the cash rebate card which has 1% Cash Back on all purchases AND a 4% bonus Cash Back on everyday purchases for life that the first CSR did not notice.

Will try it out to confirm and update my post when the bill/rewards post.

Just received my first bill. 5% reward is slightly off for some reason, but it is apparent that the 5% is still largely valid for gas, groceries, and drug stores.

Has any student applied for the associated bank cash rebate card? I gave it a try tonight and the automated options are terrible. There's no option for a student who chooses a residence he doesn't own or pay rent (parents home) and there's no option to choose no job. I just had to hang up.

I applied by talking to a rep.......get the number from the bank website.

What number did you call? I called the 577-9485 and that was automated, I called the 866-492-6827 number listed for the other credit cards and still got an automated system.

I called the 1-800-236-8866 number for customer care and that associate told me it wasn't possible to sign up for the card other than using the phone system. She also told me that there's a website link so I took it with a grain of salt.

EDIT* 2nd rep told me I had to be in Wisconsin or Minnesota to get be able to get the card. Guess it rules that card out.

sorry I don't have a record of tel no. .........it's probably the customer care no. you listed since I got it by searching the website. Try a 3rd time?

Example: I buy a Shell gift card from safeway -- will I still get a 5% CashBack? Its not about what you buy, its about the merchant classification of the store you buy it at. So if the store's credit card processor has them listed as a grocery store, you could buy a goldfish, gasoline, copy paper, or even a new car and it will post as a 'grocery' purchase.

Is there a listing somewhere of which major chains are classified as what?

For example, a Publix is probably classified as a grocery store. I'm assuming a CostCo or Sam's Club is not?

Also: what about the online storefronts, do those processes go through the same way (will ordering direct off a grocer's website work)? I'm assuming there are also online-only grocers (for home delivery, perhaps)?

Rokuk said: Glitch99 said: bcotton said:

I get the feeling Costco and Sam's Club are classified as discount warehouse clubs. I've seen cards that have reduced or no rebates at Sam's Club.

I applied for the 5% associated bank card, but got a rejection letter. The reason given was: "The consumer reporting agency serving your area has reported a limited credit history for you." The letter says that they used Equifax for their decision.

I have a 20 year credit history and this is the first time I've ever been rejected for a credit card. When I called in to find out more behind the rejection letter, I was told that I basically scored too low on their approval score and that paying off the balance of my accounts in full (which I do) actually works against me in terms of the approval score. Their reasoning was that on the credit file summary (which is the only part they look at), it doesn't show a revolving balance which would indicate any usage or payment history of my current accounts. Don't quite understand this, but I guess my case may be a side effect of the current tight credit market.

The balance that is reported is what you owe at the end of the month. Either you didn't understand or they didn't, as there is something else at work here.

( By the way, my child who is a Junior in college just got approved from Associated Bank for a huge credit line. And this child only has one card - not quite 3 years old. And PIFs every month)

Did your child apply online or by phone? Does your child live in MN or WI?

Automated phone system. Neither of those states

my oldest card is 46 months, i PIF every month, and i got $9000 CL on the associated bank 5% card. not in the midwest and i did it over the phone.

Child's only other card is 32 months old with a $5K credit limit. PIFs. Was approved by Associated bank for $20K

1. Don't know
2. I do mind

Either you're lying or you're not giving us the full story. A junior in college with a single credit tradeline and only 32 months of payment history is not getting a 20k line. Didn't happen during the credit bubble and certainly not going to happen now.

My guess is she used you or your spouse's information as the primary and made herself an authorized user.

maybe they have a high HHI

Yep, most of my other lines are 35k-50k.

I have been around here long enough that the regulars can judge whether I lie on this board. Have I ever been wrong? Sure. Unwilling to divulge certain details that could be identified with me? Guilty. Lie? Never.

And no, my child did not make themselves an authorized user. How do I know? Because we did the phone application together. And, as my child is out of town on a college internship, I am the one who was home - and opened the letter from Associated Bank - so I know with certainty exactly what they said and what card was inside

Strangely, my child also applied for a Chase college card and a Capital One No Hassle Cash rewards - and was turned down for both. The first for insufficient history, the second for too many inquiries. (Why the 3 card applications? Because my child only had one card, and it seemed to make sense to get some more tradelines before credit rules got worse, to improve the rewards programs, and to have a backup card or two in case the primary card was lost, stolen, or canceled.

Would have done PenFed, but the way the questions were asked about employment, residency, and HHI made it apparent that honest answers would result in a denial, so we nixed that application

My freshman daughter with only 3 credit cards and 9 months of payment history applied and approved for a Citi ADA credit card with a credit line of $20,000 this January.

So, be open minded. It is not impossible.

Wow. Guess the rumors of the credit bubble being over are grossly exagerated.

ColbyS said: Wow. Guess the rumors of the credit bubble being over are grossly exagerated.No.

gwu1986 said: Sorry if this has already been posted, I did not read the prior zillion pages.

I received an invitation from USAA today offering a 5% CashBack (black) AMEX on gas, groceries (not warehouses unless they classify as grocery store), and dining categories , for one year. The 5% CashBack is limited to the first $650 in monthly purchases for each category. The rebate is paid in January (do not like that part).

Applied online, approved instantly for a semi-okay CL of 20k. In my account list, the card is listed as a tiered rewards card.

I determined the $650 max for two categories (dining and groceries, not gas as I already receive 5% cash rebate from Penfed) is worth: 650*2*.05*12=780/yr. This may be worth it to some.

Name of Card is: USAA Cash Rewards American Express Card ITA (credit card, not charge card version). No annual fee.

This is a great card. Not only are there good rewards for the first year, the APR rate is insanely low (variable, but currently 6.15%) and there are no fees for cash advances. Also, you can link your USAA card to your USAA bank account for overdraft protection

I agree with ColbyS. Seems like ellory is here to get help but not give help. That's mean and against FW idealogy.

That's smart to blow your own toot. "NEVER" must be a figment of your imagination, it is not in my post. I do not have time to search through FW history to check whether or not you helped anyone. I restate based on what I saw in this thread, you were trying to get help and not give help in kind. With that said, this is my last post on this subject.

americano you dont have a clud wgat you are talking about so get off your high horse when you know nothing about ellory, someone who has selflessly helped the fw community for years

Especially when your screename is not particularly memorable for offering help to others

Good for you! Again, read more, post less. If you want to get help or learn something here, at least, ask the questions nicely and others might reveal their tricks again and again!

I tried applying for the associated bank card about 2 weeks ago. I haven't heard from them yet and tried calling 877-577-9485 today. That number has been disconnected. The 866-492-6827 number on the Associated website referred me to another 800 number for application status (888-201-4523). I assume that's Citibank (the voice prompts sounded like Citi). The agent said that they're sending me an IRS form that I'm supposed to return. I haven't gotten it yet, but anyone know what this is? I'll post more when I receive it.

Hmm... I signed up for it a few weeks ago using the 877-577-9485 number, did you dial (1) first? As in dialing 1-877-577-9485, that's the way it shows up on my phone. I was curious so I just dialed that number and it worked fine for me.

I just dialed it without the 1(ie just dialed 877-577-9485) and it still works for me. I almost applied for the card just because I called the number

Interesting...now it worked for me. I guess Verizon Wireless was having problems... (but I did try twice earlier)

I just checked CitiCards.com, and it turned out the Platinum American Express Card offer is dead: the annual fee is no longer waived for the first year, and you only get 3 points at grocery and gas station now.

I received the letter from Associated/Citi, and basically they want a copy of my 2008 1040. I don't think I've ever heard of this except for adverse action from someone like AMEX. No thanks...I'll stick to my Cash Plus until it gets changed, and then I'll just get less money back.

Anyone else get a request for a 1040?

No...i got mine very smoothly....it's really Citibank that is servicing the card and giving you the credit line....did you ever have a problem with Citibank before?

I did have one problem with them where they tried to use my AOR balances to close all my cards. I repaid the balances and they restored my accounts. I currently have ~30k in credit lines from them. They recently approved my Forward card without a problem.

There is a way to still get the benefits of the Citi Dividends Card. Associated Bank issues an unadvertised card called the “Associated Bank Cash Rebate Card”. They issue it through Citibank’s co-brand platform. The terms are exactly the same as the old Citi Dividends Card before they limited the benefits.

5% cash rebate on supermarkets, gas stations, drug stores.
1% on everything else.
Max $300 Rebate Dollars every calendar year.
Request checks when reward balance $50 or more.
5 rebate dollars for each individual transaction of $1,500 or more.
0% BT for 9 months. BT transfer fee: 3% $5 min, $75 max.
No annual fee.

Apply by calling 1-877-577-9485 an ask for the card.

If you have an Associated Bank near you, you can pick up the application in branch.

Thanks ChiefRoka; I and my wife both applied for this one and got them last month (California)... I got a $15k limit and she got a $50k limit. Go figure. We have FICO scores within a couple of points of each other, over 800.

The 5% Cash Back is working great; we funnel the groceries through hers, mostly, and the gas through mine, mostly. Should be able to max out the $300 5% Cash Back limit on each card this way. Great find!

Hi there,

I just applied for the Associated Bank 5%. When I called the customer service (which really is citibank folks), they said they saw no reward program I was enrolled in.

To make things worse, one agent said she saw I was enrolled in the Cash Rewards program but someone removed me from it. This is despite just applying and getting the card.

Could you comment on this from your experience? Thanks for helping a fellow mate out. cheers

You said you got the card, so does it say, "Associated Bank Cash Rebate Card" on the front of the card? That's what mine says and my first statement yesterday shows the 5% rewards correctly for groceries and drugstores (applied July 4).
