from how I read it, in order to get the 10% you have to spend a matching amount in the 1% category. So best case you get 5.5% if you match penny for penny.

I have jumped on too many rewards bandwagons just before their wheels came off, and am letting this one pass.

As much as I dislike AT&T, I'm switching to this card. For those of you who are sticking with your current card instead, what is the percentage Cash Back that you're getting?

It is pretty annoying, but hard to say no to the rebate. I can confirm that if your spending doesn't match or exceed the ATT amount in the billing statement, you will not get the rebate.
There is not much reason to use it beyond the amount you spend on ATT in a month unless you have a particular reason to get 1% TYP over 2% CashBack, or 2% TYP (on the CitiPP/PPE)

Oops. I suck: Until now, I didn't realize that this ATT card actually provides 0% rewards for non-ATT purchases. (I don't know why I thought it gives 1% Cash Back for non-ATT purchases.) Dangit!

The older Universal Rewards card with 5.2 TYP for every dollar in AT&T purchases, plus 1.2 TYP for everything else, is better in this regard - with no penalty for not using the card for non-AT&T purchases. I pay my phone bill with the card automatically every month, and do nothing else with the card.

Never thought of the non-ATT spend requirement as penalty, but agree the language makes it sound complicated. Card works for me - I spend around $200/mo with AT&T between cell phones, broadband, and home phone - all on auto pay with AT&T. I just use the card for every day spending instead of debit card - easily spend at least $200 a month. I then cash in TYP for statement credits, its less than penny a point but net you get around 5% back for Y1 and 3% in Y2.
Only wish I had gotten one of the autopay card offers from AT&T when I opened card - could have made an extra $20.

I think I'm better off getting 2% back on my AT&T bill (Fidelity AMEX) w/ 5% back on gas, 2% everything else, than get 10% back on AT&T and 0% back on the other stuff.

I believe there have been several versions of the ATT card issued through the years. I picked up mine when no fee 0% BT were plentiful. I still use the card, albeit sparingly due to the matching limitations.
After the promo period, it's 5% CB on ATT purchases in the form of statement credit each month and 1 TYP on non-ATT purchases.
If one matches ATT/non-ATT purchases penny for penny, it is a 2.5% to 3% card depending on how the TYP are redeemed. The CB percentage sounds nice, but the matching requirement severely limits the usefulness of this card. Most people do not have a large enough ATT bill to make a significant impact after the promo period compared to straight 2% CB or grandfathered 3% CB Freedom cards.

So I am a college student and have six choices in my mind for a CC. I would like to have a decent Cash Back return and hopefully not have to change/get a new card in the near future. These are the choices:
1. PenFed Platinum CashBack Rewards 2. Union Bank Maximum Rewards® Platinum Edition® Visa® Card 3. Fidelity® Investment Rewards® Visa Signature® Card 4. Citibank Dividend Platinum Select for College Students 5. Citi CashReturns® Card 6. Chase Freedom/Chase Sapphire
Not a big fan of companies who jacked people in their pursuit for a higher profit margin so ethically, I would rather go with the other companies...but realistically, I have to do what is best for me. Also, would like to have a check sent to me instead of just receiving a credit to the account so I can actually choose in how the money is spent but that is another want and not a need.
Thanks.

Schwab card gives 2% CashBack. Oh that's right you can't get it any more! lol But seriously, why limit yourself to just one card. More cards will give you different ways to get CashBack and increase your credit score.

Ok...not saying that I won't get more than one card...I was just looking for a VISA/MC card that gives benefits. I have a Discover and an AMEX already and need a VISA/MC. I've done my research, read about 10 pages in this forum (the first 5 and the last 5), read from other websites and from there, I decided on these six cards to choose from. Now is the time to choose and any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
btw....have a Discover Open Road and thinking to switch to More or Motiva (have to read more about the pro's and con's tho first).

I wholewheartedly agree with those two. For Groceries, try CITI Diamond Preferred -- pays 5:1 in Thank You Points, for first year. Note -- this card does _not_ consider a WalMart Superstore (the one with a grocery) as a grocery store, as compared to some other cards, which do. So you only get 1 pt/$$ at WMT SC.
EDIT: And just for completeness, consider the CITI Forward VISA -- pays 5:1 (Thank You Points) on meals, books/movies and music (which incl anything you spend at AMZN). No annual fee.

I would recommend Fort Knox over PenFed.

Penfed 5% gas, 2% groceries, 1% EDS
Fort Knox 5% gas, 1.25% EDS
I'd say Penfed has a slight edge... .25% is not going to break the bank, and 2% on groceries is good...

You can get 7% back on gas and 3.25% EDS if you pay your Fort Knox bill with your schwab card.

No Citi Forward? Great for the college experience and worthwhile enough to hold on to afterwards due to the discount at Amazon.
If you go with Chase, I would recommend biting on one of their sign up offers for their checking accounts for some more $$ in your wallet, if you have an account with them the card gets upgraded to give you 10 extra points per purchase and a 10% bonus (essentially, 1.1%+$0.10 per transaction). Great for small purchases like when you order off a dollar menu. A $2 purchase gives a return of 12.2 points or 6%.
