Charges are waived automatically for 3 months? Sweet. I haven't gotten my account packet, but the CSR didn't mention that.

MrVietnam said: [Q]I guess no one knows if to satisfy their two bill pays a month to waive account charges if you can just send a $1 to yourself two times a month so I will have to try it myself, but not for three more months as the first three months the account charges are waived automatically.

I got my packet the other day, and saw somewhere (i'll check when I get home) that qualifying bill pays had to be to a third party. I plan to send small checks to my girlfriend and she to me (I'm a little concerned about what she will put in the memo for the teller to see when I deposit my $1 check from her <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border=0> ).

Thanks for sharing OP. Gave you some green. I just called and set-up. Took about ten minutes.

Thanks to everyone else for the good ideas about meeting requirements to avoid fee.

Can anyone confirm how long after you sign up for the checking account you need to "link" your citi credit card, or do you need to link it when you activate your checking account?

I do not have a citi card but will apply for one just for this promo. Easy $200.There is another citi credit card application promo discussed on this board. Do that first, than do this for $300.

koRebate, Thanks for mentioning the the other Citibank offer. I'll take the $300.

Editted to offer more thank you's, I just so thankful!

Ah shucks, I missed it. Says open by 3/3/06, which would mean today is the last day. A shame, as there is a Citi Branch nearby too.

Try anyway. Someone said the offer had been extended. Worst thing that will happen is they'll say no.

Ditto. 4/24 I think.

I have a new hard inquiry on TU from Citi.

Does this credit card linking promo work with AT&T Universal Card?

can someone put in the quick summary how to use paypal to satisfy the requirement for this promotion.

TIA

For all those interested, I received 3 hard pulls, all on EQUIFAX. 1 each for the checking, savings, and 4.6% 6-month CD I opened. Called EQ and they removed two of them since the pulls were all within 2 days. Hope this helps. THEY WILL PULL A HARD FOR EVERY PRODUCT IF YOU DON'T OPEN THEM THE SAME DAY!

UCSFMed said: [Q]Does this credit card linking promo work with AT&T Universal Card?

They told me it would.

vinhboy said: [Q]can someone put in the quick summary how to use paypal to satisfy the requirement for this promotion.

TIAhuh? theres no requirement to use paypal or do DD. do 2 billpays and youre done.

I don't get it either. I do about ten bill pays per month. I will just move two of them to citi. No big deal.

I think some people are getting messed up with what is required. No DD is required for this promo, but if you use DD with this checking account, you get more thank you points every month.

Right, you just need to meet one of the three requirements to avoid the monthly fee. Not all three.

UCSFMed, YES!, this deal does work when you link an AT&T credit card (because they were bought by Citibank some time back). I linked my AT&T card and have been making payments on it through my checking account for a few weeks now.

Shoot, looks like I missed the boat...

Hope it extends or comes around again. Looks like one of the better Citi deals.

I just signed up today on the phone. They recognized the offer code and had me up and running in ~10 minutes.

I chose EZ-Checking, money market account (the one with no-minimum), and I will be linking up a bunch of credit cards to get the extra $100 and extra thank you points.

I know these accounts generate thankyou points we can generate with linking credit cards? Will I get points for each card I link?

If I am not mistaken and correct me if I'm wrong, you can only link ONE Citibank credit card and get ONE $100 bonus (in addition to the $100 for opening the Citibank checking account itself). Total $200 bonus per person

Has anyone actually received their bonus yet? Or are they going to deposit it on the 119th day of the 120 days after opening the account?

thanks for replying but that is not what I was asking about. I only expect to get one of those $100 bonuses for paying off a credit card

there is another bonus/rewards thing going on with citibank. they give a certain number of thankyou points each month for maintaing a number of accounts. I _think_ a citibank credit card counts as an account. it wasn't clearly specified online. anyone know?

Well now I see why they do the hard pull. I told a co-worker about this deal when I signed up. (I got my welcome kit last Friday).

She got a letter rejecting her application based on her "credit report" (she had a bankruptcy a few years ago).

Seems like they treat this like a credit app.

Do they have the "right" to do that? (pull your report when you're not applying for credit)

That's really interesting. I thought they were just pulling credit for customer verification pursuant to the PATRIOT Act. (That's what both Citi and HSBC have told me when they called me for address verification.) A credit check for a checking account? I guess if you make $20,000/year and you're depositing $4mil into a checking account they figure there might be some money laundering going on, but it sounds weird to me.

Looking at the law, it's hard for me to say. The Fair Credit Reporting Act says credit reports can be used for "credit transactions" (604(a)(3)(A)), which this isn't, but this might fall under a general provision for "a legitimate business need for the information" "in connection with a business transaction that is initiated by the consumer." (604(a)(3)(F)) So, IANAL, but I'd say they can do that. The Know Your Customer obligations under the PATRIOT Act and preventing money laundering are probably legitimate business purposes.

How do I link my Citi Credit Card to the checking account.
When I login into checking and click "link account" I only see these options:

Link Accounts to an ATM/Debit Card
Unlink Accounts from an ATM/Debit Card

Link an Account for Safety Check
Unlink My Safety Check Account

I think what they mean is to log into your credit card (www.citicards.com), go to pay online, and put in the info for the checking account. Note that it might take a week for it to go through, and you might not be able to pay off your whole bill using the account if your bill is more than $1000. So don't leave it until the end of the billing cycle.

A hint to the wise: If you link your credit card to your checking account while you are on the phone having a Citibank customer service representative walk you through it, it will become active immediately.

I did that when I opened my account but when my account appeared online the cc was not there. I had to manually request it to be linked. Anybody have a similar experience? You may want to check your account online to make sure it is linked.

Customer service rep told me to call 800-745-1534 for any question, possible they can help you to link the credit card to the checking account.

I called the 800# and they linked it in a couple minutes (though it took a few days to activate and show online.) It will then show up as a linked account when you choose the "transfers" tab online and make a payment to your citicard this way to qualify. I don't believe that paying online from the citicard site pulling from this checking would qualify.

I sent a message to CSR and after several days the link is done.

I just signed up today. They said the offer is good until 4/24

I had the same problem. I called customer service though and he linked my account right away on the phone. No problem.
I also asked about the two bill pays a month to avoid the fee and he said you can pay anyone, does not have to be a business.
Also, to pay your linked CC from your checking account you just transfer the money over he said.
Suddenly this deal is very simple!!!!

Thanks OP!!!!!!!!!

Anywone know if this is this valid?

I am in CA and from the Scanned print, it saids exp on 3/3/06. I already have a citi card (Just activated few days ago) but no checking account with them yet. Do I qualify for all the $200?

Nuke, how did you find out that there were 3 pulls, and that all three were on EQUIFAX? Did you have to get credit reports from all three (EQ, TUC, EXP), or is there some other way to check how your credit was affected by the Citi app? I'm beginning to think that this wasn't such a good deal.. :S

If anyone else knows this, please chime in! Thanks.

They do sometimes pull 3 at a time but it is only considered 1 inquiry for credit scoring purposes.

It's been over a month since I opened this account and they still haven't pulled my initial deposit from my other checking account.

??I used 'Link Accounts to an ATM/Debit Card' to add my 2 Citi credit cards. CC accounts took a couple of days to show up. Paid off both cards by using Transfer from my checking account. Waiting for the $200 to show up.

Call them and ask about it. The same happened with me and they gave me some runaround about the PATRIOT Act and giving them a cell phone number instead of a landline. I'm still not sure if they're gonna figure it out or I'm going to have to reapply from scratch.
