I just signed up too. It was easy. Asked them to verify the specail promotion with the code. I also asked them about being new customer. The girl I talked to said that you are consider a new customer if your account has been close for at least one year. I don't remember when I closed mine (openned and closed on when they had the $150 offer). You can give them your info and they can find out for you whether you are considered a new customer.

Are any of you that signed up for this offer in states where Citibank doesn't even have a branch?

UncleSam said: [Q]soupcxan - I just don't trust their CSR. My experience over the years dealing with big company CSR's is that it is a crap shoot as to who you speak with and many are clueless on the details. I trust the Fatwallet community more because somebody has already tried it and hence that precendent is more comforting to me.

So if citibank doesn't post your bonus in 90 days and then you later find out that you're ineligible for some reason, you're going to call them back and say "but someone on fatwallet said it was ok!"? I think that would give the CSR a good laugh.

My point is that the final arbiter of the promotion rules is Citibank, not strangers on FW. I don't trust CSRs either, but I take detailed notes with each conversation, and ask specific questions. That is the only way you will have evidence to support your claim if there is a problem down the road. FW is a great source for information but ultimately it is up to the merchant to substantiate the claims.

There is no Citibank near me in Northern Indiana and I opened my account.

I thought I should include more info from my discussion with the CSR. I opened mine with the Checking Plus option (overdraft protection), which the CSR told me could be closed within 6 months without having to pay the $5 year fee. This extra option should move my EZ Checking to the 75 Thank You points threshold. Also, he told me that there is a $25 fee for closing the account before 90 days have elapsed.

Has anyone tried opening 2 accounts? One for you and one for you spouse? The offer doesn't state one per household, only one per customer.

I did it: one for me, and one for the wife. It is good.

I will use my PayPal account to send money to the checking account, which is considered as a direct deposit.

it is weird, the CSR call me back after I apply for this account. ask me to fax my paycheck and month bill to them.

I will hate them if I can't receive $200

Opened an account in about 25 minutes. He mentioned they were going to do pull my credit report for this account which sucks. Also first rep I talked to asked where I was calling from and I responded Texas. At that point I was transfered to another rep who was able to process TX applicants. Thought it was kind of strange.

Why do they need to do hard credit pull just to open checking account. If it is true that they do hard credit pull then I don't think all this is worth the hassle.

Can someone who opened the account confirm if they saw a hard credit pull on their credit report by CitiBank?

deal is available by phone if you don't have citibank in your state

RE: the credit pull If you use your citibank card as a form of ID are you really going to get a credit pull?

I believe it's a soft pull, not hard

Actually, I think the final arbiter is not Citibank but threat of BBB, attorney general, OCC and state regulators.

In my case I was told that I qualify for the promo (even though in reality I've held accounts before).

Since they record every call they're on the hook to prove they didn't say I qualify.

Assuming I want to take it that far...

Yes, it is a SOFT PULL. I asked a customer service representative that question directly.

great post. Done today. Nice csr.
One question, must I present the promotion code? The csr apply this promotion without asking for the promotion code today.

The terms and conditions don't mention it, but do you have to pay off your ENTIRE credit card balance? or just pay any amount towards it?

Just opened an account over the phone. Everything went pretty smoothly, took about 25 mins. I chose the EZ Checking option for $9.50/month and lots of ways to get the monthly fee waved.
Looks like a really nice deal - thanks OP! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border=0>

I asked the same question, and they said any payment >= minimum payment would be fine.

"To receive the second $100, you must link your new checking account to your existing Citi Credit Card and pay your Citi Credit Card bill by transferring funds from your new checking account..."

Can anyone confirm how long after you sign up for the checking account you need to "link" your citi credit card, or do you need to link it when you activate your checking account?

I do not have a citi card but will apply for one just for this promo. Easy $200.

Thanks OP,

Opened over the phone. Easy. CSR confirmed it was a soft pull (though I'm not positive she knew what she was talking about!)

I just called to ask if i can only open an account and not link or apply for a credit card and i was told that you have to do both...
Is that true ?I got too many credit cards and not a great Credit history so dont want a reject for another card...<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border=0>

I do not have a citi card but will apply for one just for this promo. Easy $200.There is another citi credit card application promo discussed on this board. Do that first, than do this for $300.

To avoid hard pulls side effects, put them both in the same app-o-rama.

I did a quick search "citi 100" and could not find this promotion. Are you referring to a $100 giftcard citi promo?
Drop me the link, it sounds like a sweet deal.

OT, but what what kind of CL would citi give me with a credit score of 690-700?

update: I did find this on SD: **HOT** $100 Gift Card to Apply for Citibank Simplicity Rewards MC CARD!!!

Sorry for me being someone worries too much. Can anybody applied verify this is from Citi? I tried to apply, they dropped me and then called back. I mean something like after you opened the account, then go to citi website to log in the new account. Any one did that? Don't want to offend anyone.

Just an FYI, I applied today for EZ Checking over the phone and got a hard pull from Experian show up immediately.

That's sucks. What can consumers do (legally speaking) since from reading the previous posts the CSRs said there would only be soft pulls? Ask for extra reimburshment? Sue?

If there's a hard pull, I might reconsider doing this. A signup/pull is worth about $200 to me now, but that and the necessary leg work to avoid fees may not be worthwhile. I'm keeping pulls to minimum as I cycle/close/consolidate thru 20k-mile ($200+ value) sign-up bonuses.

this promotion is only for Citizon, not for non-resident.

sigh,,,,,,,

Be careful to go ahead......
This chance is not like the past promotion by CitiBank.
I was required to give out all my information, also they said they will call my boss for verification. They told me they know many persons just offer wrong information to get the profit through this way, so they are strick to the following qualification. Also, they told me today they got lots of calls showing the MVR3 code for openning checking account.
After considering a lot of factors, I gave it up. Not nice in my mind. Bothering a lot......

Each of the citiproducts (checking account, debit card, savings account - they give all this to you free with this offer-gets you 50 thank you rewards points per month. You get additional 50 points for each credit card account and for using the online services = minimum of 250 or more thank you reward points per month. You also get a first order of 50 checks free.
You can make the inital fund deposit over the phone (while you open the account) with a speed pay service- with no charge to you.

Where do you see this information?

thought i'd ask, as some of the deadlines may be looming.

Wait so is there going to be a hard pull or not?

Any existing customer ever did this and got credit?

For new customers can you just walk to a branch and give them the code NVR9 and the promo can be applied to your account?

skiter53 said: [Q]Wait so is there going to be a hard pull or not?

That's what it sounds like.

Good deal, took less than 20 minutes to set up the account. By the way, the CSR I spoke to said the deal is good until 4/24/06.

i am citi credit card. am i still considered to be new customer?

dealkk said: [Q]i am citi credit card.

You ARE a citi credit card? Amazing...how did you learn to type and post on FW? More importantly, how did you become self-aware? Are we living in an age of sentient payment devices?

Still plowing my way through the app process, signature card, etc. So far so good, the welcome packet had a summary of the offer.

Did someone apply only for the bank account and NO Credit card transfer....i called and they said offer is good only if you do both.
Also i am infact new to NY , so can someone tell me if this is a good bank to stay with in New york.TIA

Yesterday I received my welcome package. It includes a saving account with the EZ checking account. From the online instruction, the saving account needs a minimum balance of 500$ to avoid the service fee. So I called to citi to cancel my saving account just now. The CSR told me that this saving account and checking account are in one package, so if I can use the checking account pay bill twice every month, then both of them has no minimun balance requirement and is free of membership fee.
So I need not cancel the saving account now?
Thanks.
