katytibbs, what interest rate to you get on that 10K to 50K? Never mind it probably sucks. Since you can't be sure of keeping 25K in the account, you are probably in the wrong thread.

Anyway I'd switch to a free checking account at BoA then set up one of these online savings accounts such as HSBC direct. You can trasfer money to/from you BoA checking account online, with only a few business days delay, but earn (no doubt) a much higher interest rate.

HSBC's is 4.25% (promo right now at 4.8% until 4/30).

katytibbs, if there is a Hudson United Bank near you, they offer 3.5% on savings with only $300 minimum to avoid fees and you can open a linked free checking there and transfer money online or by phone between the two. Their rate is not the highest, but they've been offering it for a while. I am only suggesting it because 3-4 days it takes HSBC to transfer the money may be too long for you.

quicksummary updated to include DimeBank

I was reading in the CD thread about rate matching and was wondering if that worked out with liquid accounts (if so which banks and/or if relationships are required). I assume the question belongs here I'm assuming it would take a large deposit to get this treatment, if ever.

most of the B&M banks I use offer CD rate matching ( to other banks, not CUs), but not on liquid accounts

Updated Quick Summary to reflect Hillcrest Bank's new rates and lower minimum balance req.

4.91% on 50K+

Anyone try nBANK ?

Seems to be one of the best checking rates without limits. (American & Presidential each limit the $ amount that earn their high rates.)

I figure for an average balance of $5000, one would earn an extra $13.50 per year with nBANK as opposed to Presidential....with no direct deposit requirement.

Shouldnt rate chasers consider this ? Or are all rate chasers worried about a small minimum balance ?
-----------------

nPower XL
High interest rate currently 4.43% (4.52 Annual Percentage Yield)*
FDIC insurance.
Immediate liquidity of a checking account.
Overdraft protection (with approved application).
Master Money check card (with approved application).
Minimum balance to open of $2500.00 .
FREE online banking and bill payment.
Monthly service charge of $15.00 if balance falls below $2,500 .
nBank does not charge for use of other providers' ATMs, but the owner of the machine may or may not assess a charge.
nBank will automatically refund up to $8.00 per month of ATM fees charged by other banks when you use other ATMs to access your nPower XL accounts.

*The interest rate paid is equivalent to and adjusts monthly based on the average of the daily closing bid prices in the secondary market for the 3-month Treasury bill as published by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
---------

Edit, I guess Umbrella should be mentioned, but it is a money market, not a pure checking account.

$1,000-$4,999 4.61%
$5,000-$9,999 4.61%
$10,000-$24,999 4.61%
$25,000-$49,999 4.61%
$50,000 and over 4.61%

As noted in the discussion thread, Index Money Market disappeared. Performance Money Market is a different account. While "probably not good", the web site has not shown a decrease, only a lack of rate information for our favorite account there.

This explains it.

Text This account may be what I'll try next. 5% guaranteed for 6 months. Anyone dealt with Flushing Savings Bank?
I thought about flushing savings once but it sounds like money down the drain( I couldn't resist).

Looks like Superiors new "Incredible Money Market" 5% on $100k+ needs to get on this list, I would do it but all I know how to do is edit and would probably crash this site trying to put a new one up. Read thru some details on that account and could not find if they have a fee if closed within a certain amount of time like their other MM. Just still not sure if it's worth opening new MM accounts for 5% if we get the 5.25+ CD's we should start seeing after FED meeting this month. The checking account I would fund from will be up over 4.80% next month, so difference would minimal

alert mods

Superior is now allowing current accounts with 100,000 to be upgrade to the new 5% rate - you do not have to open a new account to get this rate (as they normally require).

My drop dead min is $90k/yr to live. House is paid off and no other debt. My wife is an RN who I made stop working 8 years ago to be a stay at home mom when our child was born. She wants to work again and the opportunities are endless for an experienced RN. She plans on working about 20hrs a week which would get us healthcare

Wow, if I calculate back with 4.63% intereat, that means you have accumulated at least USD2million and perhaps more. Congrats. what line of business? or what kind of profession?
Add to the questions, "Personal injury settlement?"

Amboy Direct MMM no longer offers the intro rate of 5% for the first 3 months. Rather, the regular rate for deposits over $30K was increased to 4.55%.
