Hmm...I opened mine early in the morning of the 24th. Still haven't received a "welcome" e-mail, or anything in the snail mail. Should I apply again?

NB, the email subject line reads
On-line Promotional Account Funding
and it is generated from "Info@dimewill.com". Check your spam folder? Or email them at <— address? Don't bother calling their Toll Free number, as no human (apparently ever) answers this number.

I hunted down what appears to be their main FAX number, so I would contact them immediately if you haven't got your MM set up with them by now: <font color=white style="background-color: #3E3E3E;">FAX: (718) 963-1075

So here's an update...as of Friday (the 28th), I can log into Dime Internet Banking with my SSN, and I can see an account, but it is set up as "checking" with an APY of 0.5%. Is this normal, or does this sound like an error? Also, a 2-cent trial deposit has been credited at Everbank (I think as of Thursday the 27th), but no withdrawals yet. Sound normal?

Thanks,

NB

Yes, the listing for 0.5% is normal, it will show the 6.00% on the statement.

Thanks for the clarification on the interest question.

In "Account Access", I can see where they have opened the account; there's an entry for July 24th for a "deposit" of $0.00. Here's another question for everyone - does this mean that I'm burning through my 3-month intro period (i.e. did the 3-month intro start on the 24th?) If so, that really sucks, and would seem to seriously negate the point of moving to this account, particularly for large sums of money. It seems to me that there shouldn't be any account activity listed until the initial deposit hits the account. It's "dirty pool" in my opinion for Dime to start the teaser period with a "deposit" of $0.00 and thus get out of paying the 6.00% for 8 days (and counting). Heck, it seems like they could hold your $$$ for any arbitrary length of time if this were the case, and turn a 3-month offer into a 2-month offer or worse. What do y'all think?

alert mods

Quit yer whining. Finish yer funding and move on.

They don't start the clock until you confirm the trial deposit amount and they've completed the transfer of your initial deposit amount -- whatever you told them to fund the account with.

Can someone who already has an online account with Dime confirm that there is an online option to initiate new ACH transfers for new deposits after the original funding transfer is done?

I called a Dime CSR to ask this question, but I'm not confident in her answer because she also said that there will be a $7.95 charge to order checks, which conflicts with posts by others here who said they are getting checks for free.

alert mods

the first order of checks was free until recently, now they charge a fee $7.95 for the first order of checks

the transfer into Dime Saving Bank is possible by wire but there is a fee (I think $15). You can also deposit money into Dime Savings by sending them a check

I have a free checking account with WAMU where I can add external accounts for free transfers into/from my Dime Savings Bank account ... that's the easiest, fastest and cheapest option

TYTBUDGET said:Dime doesn't offer ACH out; but has anyone been successful negotiating a pull out of Dime from another of their banks? We'll all be trying to avoid loss of interest when we close (especially those of us on the West Coast). My first preference would be a pull from one of my other banks, fee free.

But I thought of another strategy: Open one of their checking accounts (haven't explored this yet, comments appreciated); transfer a small amount of money into it to get it going; transfer the entire balance of the matured CD into the checking account; write check for same; deposit check into other bank account; close (all) Dime.
Either of these options sounds feasible, but I am concerned about the (slight but real) possibility that Dime will not pay the partial interest accrued in the month that the account is closed. I could not find any statement about this in the T&C. Anyone out there with better eyes than me and/or experience closing out an account with Dime?

No problem, but Dime CSR did call to comfirm.

My 3 months on this account is up on the 20th of August, will withdraw all but a small dollar amount, then close account after the statment closes and my interest posts.

My apologies if I missed this earlier in the thread, but does the 3 month promo expire in the middle of statement cycles?

In other words, if it expires the 20th, then is the interest really only earned at 6% up until that time, and the interest afterwards accrues at the lower rate until the end of the month?

I'm just curious, because they could conceivably have it set up to where the same interst rate is earned for the entire month.

I think these questions all turn on how DIME assigns cycle dates. Perhaps bksavings can post his experience of this since he's been in for more than a month.

I opened my account on the 20th, interest gets credited on the last day of the month.

But they'll tell you exactly when your promotional rate ends when they send you out confirmation of opening the account. There's no guesswork involved.

alert mods

Okay, my DIME Statement just arrived and I'm baffled as to why the last line of the report reads
CK . . . (MY ACCOUNT #) . . . (MY BALANCE) . . . 4.400 (under "INT-RATE%") . . . (MY YTD INT)
? My 6.00% is reflected three lines up under "Interest Earned" and the dollar amount is accurate (after losing 5 days to ACH sigh). I'm not worried about it but I am curious as to where 4.400 comes into this? The adjusted percentage based upon what it would have been for 30 days? Their "Standard" rate for this level of a deposit?

Yeah, I just got that today, very nice touch, no other banks including Everbank, Amboy does that. It lists the interest rate, promotional dates, and also the interest rate for post promotional period, no guess work needed. It looks like I may have double dipped on interest for a day between GMAC and Dime, but I can't be sure until I get my statement to check the interest amount. But I definitely don't think I lost any day of interest.

BTW, 4.4% is the post promotional period interest rate. It's on the confirmation letter and also shown when you login to your Dime account.

If anyone else has Presidential Bank, their online bank user interface is identical to Dime.
