I signed up on the weekend and got a call today. Guy said he would just fill out the form for me to get the $75. He even offered, which leads me to believe they get quite a few people who just want the freebie. |

Received an official letter (and some brochures), saying, "In the near future, an Ameriprise financial advisor in your community will contact you to schedule your consultation...." |

Did this about two years ago in NJ...was actually looking for a planner to work with...I got two hours of sales pitch for AMEX products and never received a gift check - called many times (more than 10) and was told that if I stopped by again for further "discussions" they would talk to me about it...I wrote AMEX a note outlining their committment but they ignored it...

Hmm.
I signed up with a long email address.. like <MyName>AmeripriseOfferFor75GiftCheck@domain.com... I got a phone call from the gentleman to set me up an appointment - just got back from there.
He said we should have been sent an email with the thing for him to sign but we never received it. When he first tried to contact me, also, he had my email listed with part of the domain seemingly truncated off. I am thinking I went over the maximum chars allowed or something.
Sigh.
He said he is "checking into it" - I went ahead and signed up again with a MUCH smaller email address. Hopefully this one wont have a problem and he will sign off on it. Else its time for another hour with them.
=/ We were not that impressed... |

OK. The nice gent from Ameriprise wrote me today...
There is no need for you to do anything. I contacted the incentives department, they looked you up, and are processing the $75 gift cheque. You should receive it within 4 weeks. They aplogize for you not receiving the voucher. Thank you for your time yesterday. I hope our paths cross again.
So it seems you should receive some type of voucher for this - but if you havent, your Ameriprise person should be able to handle it. Just make sure that he/she knows about this BEFORE you go if you can... |

certainly worth an hour of your time:
2080 work hours in a year * $75 = 156,000 annualized. Much better than my $19/hour after taxes.
Of thats right, this is also "taxable." |

I just got back from my meeting and my Ameriprise person said I needed the voucher and 8-10 weeks to process. *sigh*
FYI, he talked high level about Ameriprise services Insurance, Equities, Estate, Retirement, Fixed Income, Tax Planing. No real details. He was real impressed by HSBC's 4.8%, asked if it was ING.

Called for the appointment. Was asked lots of questions over the phone. A long phone call. Set up the appointment. Advisor had no clear knowledge of the gift deal, its amount, or its specifics. Asked me to send him a copy of the offer. |

FYI
...
For our meeting, please reserve 90 - 120 minutes. During our time together, we will discuss your current financial situation and future financial goals. Please consider the following:
· What type of service do you want from a financial advisor? · What do you expect from a "financial planning" relationship? · What are your financial goals? · How do you anticipate paying for professional financial service? · How do you manage risk? · What aspects of your overall financial strategy do you feel could be improved? · What is your asset management strategy?
Also, I will explain my definition of financial planning, how I help my clients, and my fees. The goal of our meeting is to learn enough about each other so by the end of our visit we can answer the following questions:
1) do I offer a service that will help you develop a clear plan…? 2) would you like to hire me to work with you to develop & implement this plan …?
If I determine I can help you and you choose to hire me, that's great. If not, that's perfectly fine as well. My only expectation for our time together is that we can share enough information about each other so you can make a high-quality decision and arrive at one of those answers. See you soon! |

I had mine scheduled for last saturday, but suprisingly enough she sent me the email on what I needed to bring, but somehow the voucher e-mail never got to me. I called her saturday before our appointment, and she said I had to bring the voucher in, and she wasn't in charge of e-mailing it to me, but she'd "look in to it." She said I could come in and then try to get the voucher later, but there is no way I'm sitting through that without leaving with a signed voucher. I haven't heard back from her and it's tuesday. I may call her tomorrow. But apparantly she said there was nothing she could do if I didn't bring in the voucher myself, so don't go in without one. |

Agreed. It is best call or email in advance to make sure the offer is good. Otherwise, it could be quite an ordeal to go through. I just emailed my advisor and requested for confirmation of the offer. |
