Got this reply from my advisor:
There are multiple marketing channels Ameriprise uses & offers available to the public. I believe what you have sent me will be OK as I can endorse this certificate with my advisor number, date of consultation, and phone number. |

I finally got a telephone call from the Ameriprise sales person. Guess what? He doesn't speak English very well and he obviously just came to this country. His English was so bad I could barely understand his phone message.
Now why would I invest with someone like that?

Had my consultation with the advisor. Now, how do I get the $75 check? Do I receive any form to be filled either in the mail or email? Thanks. |

i had my consultation yesterday. guy was very nice, talked about finance stuff for an hour. of course it helped that i'm 23 and already maxed out all my contributions, so he didn't really push anything hard.
he said he'd take care of the paperwork for the giftcard and that i'll probably get it in the mail in a few weeks (he wasn't 100% sure about the process so you never know). |

Just returned from my consultation. I told him I am expecting a large fortune that the son of a murdered prince in Nigeria is trying to smuggle out of the country. I told him I received an email to that effect from the prince's son who wishes to share the fortune if I helped him out in the scheme for some nominal fees. And I need counsel on how to invest the money once it is in my possession. I was so late that the advisor asked me to reschedule for another appointment because there was not enough time and he had to go to another meeting, but he also promised that he would go ahead and process my $75 gift cheque regardless. |

Just had my meeting. The woman didn't know about the $75 Offer, I received a postal letter about the meeting but never got any special paperwork. She said that she would go into the computer and enter the fact that we had our meeting. I'm not sure that counts as "filling out the necessary paperwork." I guess I'll have to call Ameriprise, this doesn't seem promising. |

Met with my advisor on 3/17. Very nice(looking) young lady.
She went into her sales pitch...long term...let her take care of all my finances and I'll have no stress...blah bla blah.
Meeting took about 40 minutes. Was not a hard sell at all, but she seemed a bit dissapointed after I politely declined.
About the $75:
She knew nothing about it, but gave me a number to call. Got bounced around and finally got a call back today from a very nice lady in charge of the program and she said she'd mail me out the giftcard. 8 weeks. Phone number for Ameriprise incentives department: 612-671-7979 |

Thanks for the info. I wish they had a toll-free number, or email contact info. They provide no contact info of sort on their website. |

Went to collect my $75 today and here's the playback:
The lady I talked with got 20+ years with Ameriprise. There were almost no selling at all, I guess she wrote me off as a waste of time but was very pleasent about it. The fee for "advising" is $1500-$2500 for the first year and $600-$2000/yr after that, plus commission, of course. She got 200+ clients, so if that's true that's not a bad career for some of the BS artist here.
I asked specificly about estate planning and she touched on it briefly but she said there is law preventing her from actively helping folks moving assets to qualify for medicaid. Can someone confirm? |

I received a very nice follow-up letter from the advisor hoping to set up another (2nd) meeting. As for setting up trusts, wills, and the like, he told me at the meeting he didn't do it, but he could refer me to an attorney in his network. I believe your quoted advising fee is an annual flat fee with unlimited hours of consultation (including phone & email). For medicaid planning see http://www.lentillem.com . |

The number provided isn't for general use, it's more for the advisors themselves to be calling to request fulfillments, etc.
The lady I spoke to sounded really confused as to where all the calls were coming from. |

I went a couple of weeks ago. Got the $75 a few days ago.
The guy was fairly low key, marginally accurate. He didn't know all of his tax stuff like he should have - didn't know that a Roth and a traditional are identical if you will be in the same tax bracket in retirement, etc. Also didn't know the difference between long and short term capital gains.
He said the "A" word... Annuity. That brought shivers down my spine. I'm mid 40's. Brrrrrr.
His program was $700 per year plus his 2.5% load on the funds he would sell me.
Thanks, but no thanks. It wasn't a totally wasted hour... |

I signed up two weeks ago and still haven't heard back. It didn't ask for SS # so they couldn't have known I just borked my credit on an App-O-Rama. Oh well, didn't need the hassle anyway.

i sign up a month ago and went to the consultation last friday. The guy is very nice, the meeting went on for about 1 hour, he didn't know about about the $75 check or any bonuses. I tried to call these 2 numbers Her name is Shirley and her # on my caller ID was : 612-671-3131.
Phone number for Ameriprise incentives department: 612-671-7979 and both lead me to voicemail, i left VM on both and they never return my call since monday. I don't know what else can i do to get my check. At the consultation, the guy didn't ask my AMEX card number or my address, i am not sure how can i get the bonus in that case. |

Thanks for providing info regarding their incentives department. I suggest you keep calling those numbers once a week on Mondays until you get a response. I did my consultation a few weeks back and the guy supposedly processed my offer, but I haven't received anything yet. |

someone was nice enough to share private AMEX #s so your AMEX REP could contact their fulfillment dept and what do ignorant FWers do? start bombarding them directly with phone calls! nice! they just shut down these #s, dont expect any help now.

The lady I spoke to sounded really confused as to where all the calls were coming from.
and moreover, who in the world would attend the consultation WITHOUT mentioning the GC, up front...seems like a lot of people sat and listened to the speech, THEN asked about the GC (which the rep doesnt know about) or even forgot to mention it entirely and just expected it would magically come?
this is just like a test drive deal - mention you are just there for the GC upfront so the rep can save their (and your) time |
