if you are interested in estate planning, going to anyone OTHER than an experenced estate planning attorney is a waste of your money. |

I told him I received an email to that effect from the prince's son who wishes to share the fortune if I helped him out in the scheme for some nominal fees. And I need counsel on how to invest the money once it is in my possession. I was so late that the advisor asked me to reschedule for another appointment because there was not enough time and he had to go to another meeting, but he also promised that he would go ahead and process my $75 gift cheque regardless.

I would like to thank and bless the OP (for mistyping his password and thus undigging a gold mine) and all the other contributers to this topic. Following all your sagely advice and invaluable tips, and after much needless ado, today I am glad to announce that 2 glorious AMEX Gift Cheques (one for U.S.$50 and another for U.S.$25) arrived in my humble mail box. They will be on their happy way into my bank account on Monday. What a truly blissful sight to behold!
HAPPY EASTER TO ALL! |

Do you know how to contact them if I did not get the AMEX gist check. I met with an advisor over a month ago and have yet to receive anything. I checked their website and could not find a way to contact them. |

Here is my experience.
1) Found that suggestions on this thread such as the above (f.i., to avoid signing up) were excellent advice.
2) That I also met with a fairly inexperienced 'advisor' who was extremely well versed in the company sales patter and outlook (vis a vie potential client).
3) That the meeting ran two and a half hours rather than the expected 45 minutes. (Largely my fault, because I wanted him to provide a 'solution' to my investment problem. This opened the door to dragging it out... which he appeared to like (probable reason: the longer the 'consulatation' goes on the lower your sales resistance).
4) When I tried to confirm with the advisor that I would be getting my $75, he claimed that he knew nothing about it.
Ameriprise claimed that they could not simply pay me $75 because the offer did not come from them and was probably originated from one of their referring organizations.
They therefore requested that I FAX them full documentation regarding the $75 referral offer. Immediately upon FAXING them, I began a 2-day campaign of...now that you got what you wanted...make sure that I now get what you promised. The check came right away. |

Don't give up yet Unflavored. Like you, I had not heard back from anyone for the longest time (about a month). I just had given up all hope and decided they didn't want me, when I got an e-mail last Friday and a call last Saturday from the advisor. I already had my meeting on Monday, and at the end of my meeting (which was pretty pleasant and fairly harmless... he didn't try to push me at all but it might have helped that I mentioned in the beginning that I don't really have that much money to play with right now, I probably have a negative net worth what with just being out of school, and I'm sorta a control freak when it comes to things), asked him if they were still doing the $75 check offer. He said he would fill out the paperwork needed, and then I mentioned that I was just wondering because it had been such a long time since my request. He said that he actually noticed that today as well; right before our meeting, I guess he looked at the e-mail that he was sent, and noticed that while the e-mail was sent to him on Friday, there was a date somewhere in the e-mail that said March. Apparently, he had e-mailed me within an hour of receiving the e-mail so there must be some kind of delay in the internet to e-mail system? Not sure, but hang in there. |

I'm in the same boat, just received a $50 Gift Check. I wouldn't have gotten anything if I hadn't called the number given earlier in this thread a few weeks ago- left a message, and they returned it telling me I needed to get my representative to email customerincentives@ampf.com saying that we had met.
She did this eventually, after I emailed her with instructions, and forgot her advisor number, then I got an email CC'ed from incentives asking her for it, and I assume she finally responded with it.
I probably wont bother trying to get the other $25, but the whole experience left a sour taste in my mouth. Without constant prodding, I never would have received any bonus at all, and AMPF doesn't exactly go out of their way to make it easy for you to even get in contact with the right people to request the bonus. |

You people are taking liberties with the English language here.
They are not advisors, they are commissioned salespeople. If you insist on using the word advisor, at least put it in quotes.
Ameriprise "advisor". or Ameriprise advisor (so called).
Or some variation of the above.

I signed up when this was first posted and after a very long time a woman called and asked if anyone had called to set up a meeting. I told her no and she told me they would within 2-3 days. That was such a long time ago. No harm does as I just wanted some free money but had I really been interested in using their services the long wait with no contact would be a definite turn off. |

Just signed up, we'll see if this is still ongoing.
Anyway, I am actually interested to listen to some FP advice. My mom is a FP back in my country, so I won't mind learning a bit about FP here in the states so I can talk to her about it. 75 bucks won't hurt too!
(Of course, no way they are going to touch any of my....uh....assets!)

I'm a little POd at these guys. I met with my "advisor" mid-march and I have no $$ to show for my troubles.
I posted the inside phone # a few pages back but all I get is a message with no return phone call.
I'll tell you one thing, if they think I'm just gonna say eff it and forget about the whole thing they're wrong. |

I hope you got the incentive. I had a mid March appt. too. I tried your number and got a recording. Then I called 800 801 8382. They are sending me a voucher that has to be signed by the advisor to verify that the appt. took place. This mix up is the fault of the Ameriprise promotions department by not sending out a voucher for me to take to the consult. It should have been done back in March. |

lol, check this out:
i got 2 exact duplicate vouchers in the mail. then i got a call from ameriprise asking if i met an advisor yet. i said no. they said they'll have one contact me. one contacted me a week or so later. i met her with one of the vouchers . she was a senior financial advisor, 35+ years experience, really high up. she knew her stuff. she told me how being part of American Express hindered them, and that ameriprise wanted to be their own, and they finally got that. i emailed her 2 or so weeks later asking about the $75 gift check. she emailed back promptly, and this is an exact part of her message:
It has been processed, however; it will take 6 to 8 weeks to receive anything from American Express.

update: cool, i got the 2 checks today, took exactly 4 weeks to come since meeting my advisor. good thing she was wrong about how long they would take to come!

It has been over two months and I still haven't been contacted by phone, email, or mail. I did an AoR right before I applied but I didn't give them my SS #. Perhaps between my name and address they knew there was no money to be made from me by doing a soft pull.
oh well, no big loss |
