just got a notice today that you get double starpoints up to $5000 if you pay your personal taxes using this card

The only negative is AMEX takes FOREVER to put the points onto your SPG account. It's been 10 weeks and I'm still waiting for my 6k points.

I got my points along with my first bill.

Just call them. I got my points in the next statement immediately after I called.


When I gave them a call, they told me to wait the full 12 weeks.

Can you switch from Blue Cash to the Starwood Card? I know about the annual fee etc, and I am assuming the answer is no, but I just thought it would be worth asking. Thanks!

Thanks OP. Just applied and was approved with $18K. I wanted this for Price Protection and Extended Warranty. I just applied AMEX Gold Business Card last month to get $100.

Incorrect. They dont offer cash for this card. Don't sign up - I went through the whole process and they don't pay on this paticular card.

well, they did for me last december when i got it - got a $30 check, that i wasn't actually expecting. i went through their link initially, which only had 6000 bonus points based on stays, but ended up applying up via another link that got me 4000 points on first purchase, plus the 6000 earnable bonus points - still ended up getting a check from cardoffers though.

and as for the value of points - it depends on how their used of course. starwood just ran a targeted promo - 50% off points required for redemption at cat 1-4 hotels. i'm doing 5 nights @ w san diego, normally 40k points (5th night free award), w/promo 5k/night - total 25k points. paying cash it would be $270/night best rate = $1350, so 5.4 cents/point. i'm sure people have done much better than this with other promos/destinations too.

If your app is declined, you can convert your existing card to Starwood, but in this case no bonus and no annual fee waiver for 1st year. I called and was told I can convert one of my personal cards to SPG, don't remember which one (have NYC, Blue, Blue Cash, HHonors).

In your case you may be able to convert Blue Cash.

I am confused.. did they actually reject your application for this card because you had too many cards already? It seems like you would definitely NOT want to convert to this, because you lose the first year free plus the points, as you mentioned.

I have 5 cards and don't want to aplly for another, because there is a small chance of approval (my score is low at the moment). I wanted to see if I could convert one of my cards and waive the annual fee for 1st year on Startwood, so that I can try out BVG risk free. I don't care that much about SPG rewards program since I don't travel much. CSR said that they can't waive annual fee if I convert the card, so I decided not to convert. I did not push it though, will try to pretend that I am cancelling the card next time.

Are you sure the # of cards is the problem? may be it's total CL.
Consolidate 2 cards together apply again and see what happens.

I agree with the other poster. I got this card last August through CardOffers and got the $30 bonus check just fine (and my 2000 SPG points posted with the close of my first statement).

Then you can share in his ignorance. They simply dont offer the $40 Cash Back for this particular card anymore. Other cards yes, this card no longer.

Could you please tell us how did you find out about this?
Site still says $40 bonus.

Only approved for $2K...but this was about a week or so after an AOR for me. So my credit score kinda sucks atm. Bad timing. Oh well, I got in...

btw, how long does it take to cover from an AOR? I'd like to apply to another AMEX card and consolidate my lines. $2K just doesn't cut it for me.
