I wish they would give me a thank you point for each dollar in mortgage payments I pay to them.

I couldn't even figure out how to check the expiration dates of my TY points from my six sponsor accounts.
Anyone?

They all have expiration dates, but most are out far enough that we never run into them.

Login to your ThankYou account.
Under "My Account", click on "Statement".
There will be a line that says "Expiring Points: 0 within 90 days View": the "View" will be a link, so click on this to see a list of your expiration dates listed by sponsor account.

Or, try this link (after you are logged in):
https://www.thankyou.com/accountStatementExpiry.jspx

Yet something is different. I've been using TYN for about 5 years. You may be right that I haven't run into expiring points before, but admittedly this is still a strange email. Generally, TYPs expire at the end of the calendar year 3 years after the month they were earned. Points expiring Dec 31 2008 were earned at some time during the 2005 year.

I have 14,000 that will expire this year. Going to have to book a flight.

weird. now all my points expire 2009 or later; the 2008 expiration points are still there (my account total is the same), but no points expire this year.

Something about that email was strange. I think they goofed when they sent it out.

yes, they did goof when they sent it out:

"Dear psychtobe,
Mistakes do happen but we try hard to make things right. We recently contacted you to inform you that some of your ThankYou Points were due to expire in 2008. Our research shows that we did not apply the correct expiration date to those ThankYou Points. We have corrected the issue and are pleased to inform you that none of these points will expire in 2008.
To check your point balance and expiration status of all your ThankYou Points, please visit your online account statement at www.thankyou.com under My Account / Statement / Expiring Points."

super weird.

Same thing happened to me, however my "expiring" points were from a Citi Premier Pass Elite card which should never expire as long as I use it once every three years. They changed it from 12/2008 to 12/2010 because the last time I used the card was in 2007. I'll probably charge some gum on it to roll the date even farther.

Just got two more airline tickets (one on my account, one on my wife's account)

We got tickets to Mexico for 45K points each, plus $110 in taxes.
The ticket cost $810, so that's 45K points for $700 or 1.56 cents / TYP.

Since I got all of my points at 3-5 TYPs/ $, I could spend anywhere from $15,000 to $9,000 to get a $700 ticket. This puts it at a 4.67% - 7.78% return.

$810 to Mexico? Seems too high.

That's a pretty short-sighted comment since you have no idea where in the US I'm flying from and where in Mexico I'm flying too. Does it make a difference if I say the travel is around Christmas?

why the hell doesn't this thread come up when you search for "thank you?" I even edited the tags - I thought that would help (obviously I don't know how the search function works).

alert mods

tags don't help for search, they only unite threads. if you click on the tag, you'll see all threads that have the same tag.

alert mods

so why doesn't the search work for this thread? I put in "thank you" or even "thank" and this thread never comes up.

alert mods

it does if you search for "use thank you" (with quotes). i've also added some tags to this and the "best way to accrue" thread.

vital15 said:In case anyone's interested, it looks like Citi started offering mortgage payments as a reward. The cost is 12,700 points for $100, or about $0.008 per point. Not as good as the student loan rate, but better than statement credit.

Not a bad deal for those of us who get tired of Marshall's gift cards that don't fly much. Better deal than the Countrywide card, too, when coupled with a good Citi card.

Since you omitted those information, I have to presume the average and most common distination. If you you say you fly first class, that'll make big difference too.

None of my Marshall gift cards fly very much anyway.

I have almost 120K TY points I wanted grab a flight to Asia Philippines
I never used the point for a flight before

Just looking for some advice on whats the best way go

How many points will it take to get me there ?
Does the TY Network categorize my points differently meaning can i use any of the points for a flight or are some points flight points only ?

Will I be able to get a opened returned flight date ?

According to the TY Network FAQ, flights to Asia are 80,000 TYP for flights up to $1,600 in value. All TY points are treated the same. As long as you have a linked account that gives fixed point redemption, all TY points work for that.

I'm not sure about your last question.

Once you log in, check your sponsor accounts list for one of the following. If you don't have one that qualifies, sign up for an Expedia account for free and link it to your TY account.

Also from the FAQ:

Am I eligible for fixed flight options for airline tickets?
Certain ThankYou Members have the option of redeeming for air travel at fixed ThankYou Point amounts. As of April 15, 2008, ThankYou Members with a Smith Barney Account, Citibank® Account, Expedia® Account or the following Card Accounts are eligible for fixed flight airline tickets at fixed ThankYou Point amounts: Citi PremierPass® Card - Elite Level, Citi PremierPass® Card – Smith Barney Elite Level, Citi PremierPass® / Expedia.com® Card - Elite Level, Citi® ChairmanSM Card and Citi Chairman® American Express® Card. This list is subject to change without notice. Fixed flight option Travel Rewards are only available when you call the ThankYou Service Center. Agents will work to offer you the best deal on available flights – you are not required to select the fixed flight option.

Ideally I'd like to pay for my ticket via points, and my companion's ticket via cash. Is this possible?

Yes. Do the points redemption first through TYN, then book the same flight through the carriers website using your credit card.

Then call the airline and ask to have your reservations linked so that if flight or seating changes happen they will most likely keep you together.
