Just logged on and found that LL Bean and Lands End gift cards are now 10,000 points for $100.
It was good while it lasted. Perhaps I should cash my points in before they raise premium levels again.

Thought I'd bump this thread given the plight Citigroup is in. Anybody scrambling to spend their points?

Do you guys there is a risk of the ThankYou points either being canceled, or significantly devalued? I currently have a bunch of them and am planning to use them for a fixed-point flight. However, I don't anticipate taking an expensive flight any time soon, so is there a reason just to use them quickly instead of waiting to get the maximum value? What is the historical precedent with reward programs when banks/airlines/etc went under?

Here's the thread discussing it.

While I'm sure the TY program is a profitable operation (with fixed flight option most likely being the only one close to par (2% interchange fee - sub-2% cost - operating cost), it's not hard to imagine a scenario where a new owner (or BK) significantly devalues or cans it completely. Gift cards have their own risks, and student rebate checks take 2-3 weeks, so in the worst case scenario we're all SOL

It's still there---$50 GC for 6000 points.

The $100 GC has been gone for months, however, which is depressing.

I spend them as soon as they come in. Now this isn't a change in personal policy but there is a sense of urgency now. I redeemed 20k points yesterday for Staples GCs which is new as I'm not counting on Land's End/Sears to be around that much longer. Also had to argue with myself because I had enough points for another $50 card but am less than 200 points from $100, and have those points coming next week. Anyway, I'm glad I decided to wait, since Citi announced all is well, don't worry, be happy yesterday. I wish they'd start offering their stock as a TY prize! I'd sure rather have 10,000 shares of C than a lousy $100 GC anyday.

I have almost 120K TY Points I been saving to take a trip to Asia but I'm not ready to go just yet.

Any opinions on how safe these points are with what we been hearing about the problems Citi's having ?

I'm not hoarding, but I'm not panicking. I don't think Citi goes into BK; they'll probably get saved somehow.

I decided to cash out. Got some GCs to Cabela's so I can go buy a gun while I still can.

Does anyone think that the Shell Gas gift cards are coming back?

When did these disappear?

Sometime after August, which was when I got a couple of them.

And no, I don't think they're coming back.

Earlier this week I redeemed Citi Thank You points by requesting an Apple Gift Card. My wife wants an iPhone and about 25,000 points will pay for one ($195 gift card)

I redeemed Citi points about a year ago for the same thing (Apple Store gift card) and bought my first iPhone.

You do this through their "wish list" program, or whatever they call it.

Just a thought,

Staples and Sears $100 GC for 10,000 points seems pretty good to me no?

I redeemed some TYP this morning for 2 fixed point flights. And the 'taxes & fees' quoted to me were different from what I was seeing on Expedia. I remember that in the past, the 'taxes & fees' that I had to pay for fixed point redemptions always used to match those shown on Expedia. And this made it easier for me to pick the right set of flights, so that I stay under the $400 base fare limit.

But this morning, for my particular flight combination, Expedia was showing a base fare of $398 and taxes of $39. But TY CSR quoted me a base fare of $365 and taxes of $72. One reason for the difference, according to him, was that TY considers fuel surcharges as part of 'taxes&fees', but Expedia shows them as part of the 'base fare'.

Has anyone who recently booked using fixed point redemption noticed this discrepancy?

I feel that Citi is pushing more and more costs of their travel redemption onto the users. Fuel surcharges for intl tickets are usually very high. If we have to pay for fuel surcharges in addition to the taxes&fees, the fixed point redemption option is not going to be that attractive anymore.
