yeah I know how to redeem it. I was just wondering how people's experiences were. If they were actually able to get you a flight , if the flight actually cost how many points they said or if it cost more if you book it late etc..

I used the 250 point airline ticket back in October to fly rountrip from CT to San Diego. First, i think i was on hold for an hour before being able to talk to someone. No problems at all with dates or times. They are flexible. I was, however, charged an extra $70 for taxes and fees which was unexpected. I probably won't try it again.

I can confirm that the checks issued by the TYN for Student Loans are made to the lender, but there is no information regarding account number or addresses. However, the TYN center will ask for the lender's information - including the address and account number.

I am still not confident enough to get a check from them and depositing it into my personal account - what if the check bounces, etc. I only have one loan at a higher rate than my Perkins loan, and that is my car loan (5.95%).

I just booked a flight to Taiwan for 60,000 points. They got really good times for me, and they got the airline that I wanted. On top of this, the cheapest ticket to Taiwan for the dates that I wanted is currently 950 dollars. 60,000 points, is a much better deal. And Citi is paying for taxes and fees currently. You can't beat that.

how many days in advance did you buy the tickets. I am getting the sense that airline tickets are the best way to use the points.

thank you's travel department is outsourced to expedia, so when you call to book you get actual travel professionals, not citi CSRs who know nothing about flights. give 'em a call!

Another drawback of getting the gas gift card-

In addition to losing the 5% rebate on gas purchases, you are forced to go to a station with the gift card- possibly losing even more if you have to go a more expensive gas station. In many places, name brand stations are never the lowest price compared to the grocery store or Wal-Mart gas..

Target, Amazon, or Student Loan Rebate seem like the best options to me.

I've had bad luck with the "new" travel agency they are using for the Thank you network. In order to get nonstop flights, luck really needs to be on your side.

I order either Staples or CircuitCity gift cards. The use the cards to buy FAR items.

Actually, my local Shell station has the lowest price by far in the area.

Exxon mobile gas cards bring 99% face value on fleabay (using buy-it-now). However, after paying fleabay fees and poopal fees and postage with delivery confirmation, you net only ~91-93% or so.

I didn't say it's that way for everyone.. Just a lot of places, including where I live, the Shell Stations are 5-15 cents more than cheapest station(s) in town. It's at least another factor to consider.

Susannah said:If you're just selling the gift cards, why not just get your card converted to the Citibank Dividend card? Same reward structure, but you actually get the cash. The only reason I could think of is that you already have the Dividend card and are already at the limit for how much Cash Back per year you can receive.

Do you know how hard/easy it would be to do that?

Guys,

Be careful when you redeem thank you points. Note that to get a $25 certificate, you need 3000 points while to get a $100 certificate you need 10,000 points. So be on the lookout and try and claim a $100 cert if you have the points.

Please also note that AFAIK all the cool GCs are well hidden. You might have to search to find them instead of looking through the categories.

This does not apply to all the gift certificates available.

You can get 1 pt = $0.01 if you redeem for $50 gift cards.

5000 pts = $50 GC

I have 5 Thankyou Citibank Cards. I receive bonus points on almost everything: Gas, Restaurants, Groceries, Drug Stores, Auto Rentals, Office Supplies, Plane Tickets, Taxes & other business affairs. (Now if I can only find a way to add an MtvU Card I would be in heaven.)

I use to solely get Amazon Gift Certs, but I've purchased everything I needed from them. I've recently used my points for a $50 Target and a $50 Macy's card. Using them to purchase some clothes and other items that aren't practical to purchase via Amazon or eBay.

I like to keep it simple with gift cards rather than swing for the fences for a super reward like a plane ticket.

ha I'm with you. I have 2 platinum diamond reward cards that will give me 20,000 soon, a 6% driver's edge (which i convert to points, 1 dollar = 100 points), and the MTV U card (I am a student but put my parents who eat out 6 days a week on the account), so I am racking up the points. Got over 80k in about 3 or 4 months.

Oh, I got a got a special 2000 points for 4.0 last semester

At first I got GC's but I am going to just use em for airline tickets. I'll post my experiences as soon as I get a ticket.

Heffer, may I ask how you get the bonus points on airline tickets?

Some of the citibank cards (with annual fees) give you a point for each mile you fly. Its definitely worth it!! Swing a cheap flight to Japan for ~500 and you get 15000 TY points and 15000 FF miles!!

ah, they have annual fees. That would be why I haven't looked into them.

I dont like annual fees.
