And ripping up the floors is going to cost WAY more than $2k. They might want to consider demolition. |

Drive over and take a look. If it's too far gone, contact the local fire departments.
That is what has been happening to these. It is not as uncommon as you would think for these "cat houses". Think about the contractors that had to clean up the super dome and convention center in NOLA. I assume that they have respirators and tyvek suits. My guess is that someone would have to strip the house out to the studs and take off a lot of debris (there are people that do this for fire damaged houses, for example) and rebuild. It doesnt sound like the house was worth much to begin with though. |

Asking for help is the first step in the right direction.I believe the OP stated that the cats are all gone.If so the first step I would think is to figure out how much to clean up the house! |

Imagine every square inch in that house soaked with acidic cat piss.
Honestly this woman has moved to a new community and is preying on new cats. SHE MUST BE STOPPED!!!!!!! |

err... no one is talking about ripping the floors... just clean up and mask the odors so that people can at least walk in. Then, sell as fixer upper.
So: 1. empty the house of everything 2. wash every corner of the house 3. some fresh paint 4. cut the grass 5. sell as fixer upper
You will be amazed of the power of soap and water. |

You will be amazed of the power of soap and water. The urine of 30 cats left uncleaned for several years will DISINTEGRATE the carpets and much of the structure below it. I'll say it again. FriendlyPeon said:All you need is this. It's impossible to understand unless you've seen it. THE CARPETS ARE VERY, VERY LIKELY ALMOST COMPLETELY DISINTEGRATED.
Imagine how bad you think this is... multiply this by an order of magnitude of about 500 and you might be able to get an idea of what this house is like. The city doesn't charge you criminally and go after lienholders for costs over a little piss on the carpet. The entire house is likely a biohazardous waste site.
Believe me... I'm an expert on these cat ladies. For some reason I find this phenomenon interesting. |

Cat Ladies are incredibly fascinating....gross, but fascinating.
Don't think of this as all gloom and doom OP. Keep a positive attitude, you should be able to get out of this with minimal financial impact if you're willing to put a little work into it.
As stated before, your first step has to be to check the place out for yourself. You'll probably know within just a matter of minutes of looking it over whether it's worth salvaging.
Try to get your brothers to chip in too. I find it interesting that neither you, or your brothers seem at all concerned about your mother or her well-being (both psycological and physical). |

didYOUsearch said:you know, i would ask, but.....I hate cats and I hate old ladies [except for my grandmother]... and I love the saying... "be careful what you wish for!" I find it amusing when old ladies and cats get together and what results is HELL ON EARTH. It's just funny to me.
Maybe it has to do with the fact that I used to chase cats around when I was a kid in full camo... and the old ladies would always be on the lookout for me... "LEAVE THAT CAT ALONE!!!"

Not even crack bums would set foot in this house... even with the carpets ripped out and burned. |
