for the purpose of the required equity trades use etf symbol SHY. The yield sucks because of the rising interest rates, but it is good for churning the required trades. |

Is there a treasury etf? treasury bond fund? that is better than a plain t-bill order?
I believe he's talking about SHY. Not sure why the obfuscation is needed, it's just a suggested low-volatility bond, there are many out there that don't move very much. This isn't exactly a hot stock tip that needs to be moderated is it? |

I'm finding it hard to navigate in Ameritrade to learn more about the investment options, without having first signup and join. Fidelity OTOH seems easier to navigate without joining first. |

So many promos, so little time.
Any thoughts about opening joint accounts with a minor in the family ? I'm guessing that if this was fair game, Manuel would have done it from day #1 his child was born, but humor me. |

I thought Manuel was talking about the secondary market for US treasury bonds.
So SHY profits are state tax free ? |

No, it's a NTF fund. No fee as long as you hold it for 90 days. |

put 10,010 bucks
10 000 in the 8.5% CD for 9 months and play with your 10 bucks "trading stocks"
end result: ~$11,100 not bad too me
what do you guys think? |

I don't do much trading so I'm flying a little blind. I appreciate the advice given here, just want the bonus and 3.5% MM yield for myself and my wife. Easy $1k.
I funded with $10,200 just in case I lost a buck or two in these numerous trades - wouldn't want them to argue I dropped below the $10K mark in that 9 mo period my account will stay open after receiving the bonus.
That was going to be one of my questions. What happens when you have $10k and then lose some of it in investments? Do you lose the $500? |

I signed up and started trading. My Account Value seems to be low. It might be that I am being charged the regular $9.95 trade fee for each transaction. Does anyone here know if the fees should not be charged at all, or will they be credited back later on? |

Anyone confirm this? does this throw a wrinkle into the plan? |

I called in also and good thing I did.
Here is the deal: - If you signed up without that promo code, you won't get it unless you call. - If you have $10k and lose some of it in tradings, you still qualify. Just don't do any wire out. - You can do 15 trades at any given time within 3 months to qualify. You don't have to do exactly 5 trades minimum per month. - When they say month, they mean calendar month not 30 days from sign up.
One thing I forgot to ask, which I will tomorrow, is whether no-load mutual funds qualify in the free trades. |

Where do you put the offer code? There?:
"I was referred by a friend through an introductory letter.

No. AFAIK dividends are state tax free. Any gains are taxable.
By no means the only, or even the best option. Still relatively high volume and short duration make it a reasonable choice for OPM for 9-10 months. Also has a ER of 15 bps - no record but I'm comfortable with that. YTM from sponser quotes at 4.91.
No hot stock tips from me. |
