Here's an interesting idea for those of you that have tuition reimbursement at work:

Sign up for a cheap community college class that you know takes Discover as payment. Pay for it with your Discover. File for a tuition reimbursement at work. Make 5% (and possibly learn something interesting).

I might pursue this.

Wonder if we can buy gift cards from these stores and also receive 5% back?

It's that great time of the year when I discover (pardon the pun) how many restaurants do not take Discover .

Nice to see CC there during the BF period!

I never did apply for a 2nd card to use for the 2nd installment of my daughter's college tuition. Looks like it's too late to sign up for the current promotion, anyway .

Too true about the restaurants. A bunch don't, as I found out when I got my restaurant Discover card. Still sux that they cancelled it, but I'm sort of glad that I didn't pull the plug when they switched me, since (so far) there are some useful additions in the rolling CashBack participants.

Why not? They have no idea what you're buying.

Oct-Dec Get More sounds a lot like Citi mtvU...

I'm signed up for the July-September Get More promotion for tuition, apparel and office supplies. What happens to this promotion if I sign up for the October-December Get More program today? I would hope that I'm still enrolled in the old promotion until September 30. But it wouldn't surprise me if Discover only allows one promotion to be "signed up for" at a time, so that signing up for the new program immediately invalidates the old one. Does anybody know what actually happens here?

It worked for St@ples.com, so I can assume it will work for circultcity.com as well.

yeah its a pitty my local pizza hut didnt even take discover i was like wtf, Amazon.com looks nice i gotta make some purchases and crap, looks like there own visa will be put away for a few months. Only upto $1000 in purch which is kinda crappy.

Anyone think NetFlix will qualify for video rental?

This is sweet. I'm going to put my rehearsal dinner on here. 5% back on a wedding expense is BONUS!!

A reminder to all: be sure to check your statements to be sure that you are properly being credited the 5% bonus. If something does not add up, call CS. I find that Discover shortchanges me at least once per promo. In my case, my most recent statement had the proper credit, but my first statement in the current promo had NONE of my applicable purchases credited. It is only worth a few dollars, but hey, it's still due.

Don't get excited until you make sure the restaurant takes Discover. And remember it's only $100 maximum.

Actually this one has a max out of $50.

Discover customer service says that NetFlix DOES count as a movie rental for the Oct-Dec Get More and will get 5% Cash Back. He was nice enough to note it in my account in case there is a problem later.

Sorry if this is off-topic.

When you do the CashBack promotions and you max out your 5% bonus, do you revert back to earning 1% (assuming you've reached your $3000 minimum before the promotion) on those catagories, or are you through earning a bonus on those catagories until the promotion period ends?

Edited to add -- apparently you revert to the normal CashBack schedule once you max out your 5% earnings.

Also I read somewhere on the Discover website that purchases at some merchants are limited to 0.25% CashBack bonus, even if you've passed the $3000 minimum, but I couldn't find what they were. It was something like certain warehouse stores and grocery stores affiliated with them, which made me think it was Sam's and WalMart, but I haven't been able to find a list on the Discover website (even though the Discover website says it's there somewhere). Anyone know which merchants they are talking about?

Edited to add: I was right -- it is Sam's and WalMart that give only 0.25%.

How do you check this -- it's not itemized, right? You go back through and calculate it all up? I wish on the statement they would put the CashBack amount next to the charge amount so you could see it quickly if it's not calculated right.

Except, when Discover is taken at the business, you have a 99% chance that it will be 5% unlike mtvU. Any fast food, sit-down restaurant, bar, raw bar, night club, strip club, etc that accepts Discover will be counted as 5%. I have about a 40% chance Citi will not count my restaurant purchases correctly due to how the business codes the transactions.
