When I got my statement today, the 5% didn't come out as 5% of the LNT purchases. Does Discover not give you the 5% CB if you haven't met the required spending tiers for the year? That's the only explanation I can think of for this discrepancy, but even that sounds odd...

i also was not credited the full 5% for my qualifying purchases, ended up returning some of them so i won't complain - but i don't understand why... it's a computer that should do it - so whats up with all the errors???

I find that Discover shortchanges me at least once per promo. In my case, my most recent statement had the proper credit, but my first statement in the current promo had NONE of my applicable purchases credited. It is only worth a few dollars, but hey, it's still due.

How do you check this -- it's not itemized, right? You go back through and calculate it all up? I wish on the statement they would put the CashBack amount next to the charge amount so you could see it quickly if it's not calculated right.

The "Get More" bonus does show up on your statement. It does on mine at least. It is simply listed as an entry near the top on its own line along with the amount for regular Cash Back. You have to find your qualifiying purchases on your statement and see if 5% of those purchases equals the amount listed in your "Get More" line. If not, call.

It's been easy for me to check mine since I only use it for the Get More promos (I get better or equal rewards from other cards for everything else). Each statement I check to make sure that all of my cash has been just reported under the "Get More" category (as mentioned above it is itemized at least that much in the Cash Back summary), and I make sure it totals 5% of my purchases. If not, I wait for the next statement to see if it shows up there (this last month I had my tuition payment get posted on the statement closing date so the Cash Back didn't show up until this month's statement). If it doesn't show up the following month then I'd call them. Luckily I've never had to call them.

Except, when Discover is taken at the business, you have a 99% chance that it will be 5% unlike mtvU. Any fast food, sit-down restaurant, bar, raw bar, night club, strip club, etc that accepts Discover will be counted as 5%. I have about a 40% chance Citi will not count my restaurant purchases correctly due to how the business codes the transactions.

There's one exception. For restaurant inside of hotel. I have twice dining in the casino were not count as restaurant and they don't give me 5% on those two after my call.

Thanks for the replies on checking your Cash Back bonus status. I've been checking my statements online and not seeing it -- just one number each month for total Cash Back.

We use Discover for anything we can put on it, although I'm rethinking it after finding out that WalMart's Cash Back is a ridiculous 0.25% always. Since we do most of our grocery shopping there, there's probably a better card out there for us.

Next to the Cash Back Bonus summary box on your online statement there is a link for "See CashBack Bonus Details". That is where you'll see it broken down by previous balance, purchase reward, and the get more bonus.

UnixLab,

If you don't mind my asking, would you let me know which casino restaurants did not qualify for Discover's bonus Cash Back program? I plan on using my Discover card exclusively for food during my Oct. Vegas trip. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, no experience in Vegas
Mine were done at Seneca Niagara, Niagara Falls. Although description clearly shows as XXXXXX Buffet. The rep from Discover told me it's because the restaurant registered business under Hotel, so the transaction code will show as Hotel/Travel/Entertainment, not Restaurant and there's nothing he can do about it.

It's very interesting when I first call and question about my restaurant purchase was not put in Restaurant category, his first response is "was it in a casino or hotel?". appearently he has received enough calls with the same question and very likely they are all done in restaurant of a Hotel/casino.

I have signed up for period July 1 through September 30, do I have to sign up again for Oct to Dec promotion or my enrollment will be carried over automatically?

I was gonna use my Discover when buying a gourmet meal today, but the restaurant (Taco Bell) did not take Discover. Lame!

I know two people that got letter during summer saying that the 5% rebate was ending. I have yet to receive such a letter, so they must be picking and choosing somehow :0

On a previous trip, using my AMEX True Rewards card, a Mirage buffet meal was coded as hotel instead of dining and I got less points as a result. I presume this would also hold true for Discover - so I would be cautious at the Mirage.

Reminder that it's 5% up to $1,000. I was planning on buying a LCD HDTV on Amazon.com that costs $1,600. An email to Discover confirms that the most CashBack I will receive is $50 or 5% of $1,000.
