lame

Thanks! I like the July-September category.

any more details on the July-Sept promotion, afa what qualifies as supplies & edu expenses? If you can charge tuition costs at 5%, that'd be pretty hot

Last year when they ran that promo it covered tuition and book costs... I know b/c I got 5% off my tuition.

Thanks for the early report! You spoiled the surprise!

How do you charge tuition on your credit card? My school does not seem to allow that...

Plus I thought the limit was ~$1,200. It is better than nothing but that wouldn't cover most tuition bills.

America's #1 Cash Rewards Program!*

* Full 5% CashBack Bonus on Get More purchases in popular categories throughout the year
* Up to 1% CashBack Bonus on all other purchases
* Unlimited cash rewards that never expire

Plus, there is a student version of the credit card.

If your school will allow partial payments(a lot of schools have payment plans where they stretch the payments over the entire year), you can charge as much as you can, pay it off, charge as much as you can again, etc

1) go to www.discovercard.com
2) click on the bottom right hand corner on the "Get More" square

Take care of your car and get 5% CashBack Bonus on up to $1,000 in gas and automotive purchases through June 30, 2006.

So it is NOT unlimited.

Get sign-up money from cardoffers

$35 for student card
$40 for platinum and other cards

Any other sign up incentives?

URL not found

From their site

From Platinum card information
"With our Get More Program, you can sign up to earn 5% CashBack Bonus on purchases made at select merchants or in certain merchant categories throughout the year."

"Other restrictions apply. You will receive complete CashBack Bonus Terms and Conditions with your Card."

That doesn't help a whole lot. Anybody who has the card, what does the CashBack bonus terms say?

I fixed my post so you can go there through navigation. You are posting about the general Platinum Discovercard purchases, NOT the "Get More" program.

I DO have the card and there IS a limit and I'm quoting directly from the website, I don't know why you discount my post.

5% off tuition would be super-hot.

I see. You are right, it would be too good to be true for it to be unlimited CashBack

In the other discover post, the CashBack limit on Jan-Mar 06 purchases was $1.5k, 1k for Apr-June. Any idea of the limit for Jul-Sept?

Looks like to utilize the program to it's full advantage, we would need several cards.

nvm

I was able to get 5% back on tuition payments before the college turned to a 3rd party processor that put a stop to it.

Many universities allow students to "fund" their student ID's with money so that it can be used as a credit card at places around campus. If you are graduating, you can usually load it up and request a check/refund. There is usually no "processing fees" for doing this and sometimes even bonus money added if you fund to certain levels.

You know, if the summer promotion is for all apparel, then a know a lot of women who are going to freak out.

My school charges a 3% premium to the tuition for credit card use....so 2% discount still good.

That assumes that the charge for such a thing shows up as an education expense. I know for my daughter, when I funded her card it was through a separate organization than the college.

Have not used my Discover card for long time.

This might have been covered already in other threads but does anyone know if I can get the full 5% "get more" CashBack when I'm only spending under my first $1500 .25% CashBack bonus on my platinum during the 1 year cycle? Thanks in advance...

Yes, the 5% is instead of whatever you'd be getting under your current tier. Sadly, it does not count towards getting you to the next tier.

phlttttt I want the 4% grocery CashBack deal Discovercard had awhile back lol. Don't mean to thread crap; obviously any deal is a good deal (including this one) but boy it was nice to get sumpin' back on groceries.

Tytie

I guess you've never heard of the 5% grocery/gas/drug store cards from Citibank???

Thanks! Perfect timing as I'm about to start my Masters this fall.

jayman7 said: Thanks! Perfect timing as I'm about to start my Masters this fall.Yeah but the problem is, if it's limited to $1000 of charges, it's basically useless.

Last year it was up to $3000

This is Fatwallet, even if limited to $1000 in tuition a $50 bonus ain't bad.

billrubin said: <snip> Sadly, it does not count towards getting you to the next tier.

I've looked through all of the T&C on the site and the T&C I received with my card and I can't find anything re: the Get More purchases not counting toward tier levels. I'm curious where you got this information.

Pay close attention to your due date, Discover Card changed from a 30 day grace period to 20 days
luckily for me i have auto debit from my checking account.

I did it last year when they were running the same promo. The university charges 2% to use a CC, so I netted 3%.

I just put my summer tuition on my Discover for the 1% Cash Back and paid it off, it was about $1900, no problem with the charge being too much and the school accepted it with no penalty for using a CC. HTH

More information on the July-Sept Promotion......

According to the CSR today, you'll earn 5% at Dell, Kohls, TJ Max, Office Max, plus some more places. Maximum $100 in Cash Back in the 5% tier can be earned ($500 in spending.) It is kind of a back to school theme. I believe that anything over that cap will earn the standard Cash Back bonus award.

If you are thinking about buying a computer from Dell, it may pay to wait until July. Just keep in mind that the max reward is relatively low.

new card member only?

Too bad. This doesn't sound like the 5% for tuition payment last year.
I hope it's the 5% for tuition, not 5% for purchase at those crap stores.

I assume you got the 5% bonus in your previous statments? Did you max out? Quick summary says the cap is $1000 in purchases.
Yes, that line showed up on my previous statements, and no, have not gone over $1,000.
