OP, you're going to tell me you never seen any post regarding this ? This is covered SO MANY TIMES in the Finance section and there's probably countless archived threads on this...
Also, note that based on state legislations, many states can still get a free copy directly from the individual bureaus yearly in addition to this one as federally legistlated...
Sorry for not checking the finance section before posting - I missed the boat on that one. - In the words of the great Homer Simpson, "Doh!" To my, ahem 'credit' (bad pun intended) My original post was in 'free stuff' - (I did search first to make sure this was not a repost.) I'm new at posting, and yes, I can see how this belongs in the finance section, however
I will admit that when I first found FW, the 'free stuff' section was the only area I visited - once I got more comfortable and saw that FW was credible, I checked out the other resources here. I'm sure that's true of many people. Hopefully, my misplaced post was useful to newbies, or someone just perusing the freebies who hasn't thought about their credit score in a while.
It is unfair to give this post a bad rating I may have put it in the wrong section (freebie vs. finance) BUT ~ it IS a valid post ~ you DO receive your free credit reports instantly from all three credit bureaus ~ it is easy and requires minimal effort.
Members could make FW more useful if the rating tool was used as a 'rating system'. It does, after all say 'Rate this Topic'. However, many times a 'poor' rating is given to instruct, chastise, say 'repost' or otherwise send a message to the OP, rather than actually rate the topic. If ratings were focused on the post's accuracy and validity of content, those red & green flags would have a lot more credibility. Don't you agree that It makes more sense to reserve 'poor' ratings for posts with ~ an invalid or broken link ~ 'freebies' - that are not truly free (must pay shipping, etc.) ~ the linked site has endless forms to fill out/ hoops to jump through ~ post contains incorrect/incomplete information or to serve as a warning the site offers but never delivers the goods.?
Freedom of expression, voicing opinions, and criticizing posts, etc. is great - but RATING and SCORING are meant to be ObjectivenotSubjective.
RainmanzMoney reports that you can also get your credit reports for free if you file an "Initial Fraud Alert" or when you apply for or renew your auto insurance.

The renewal letter says they used ChoicePoint for info, and I can get that report for free. I requested one but haven't gotten it yet. Guessing it's just their C.L.U.E. ®Auto Report.
I send request to get my transunion credit report 1 month ago and got a letter from transunion asking for ssn/address proof. I sent in the proof (my last year's w-2 form copy) and again got the same request from transunion again.
I tried other ways to contact them to clarify and didn't find any phone# that I can talk to a live person. Seriously, without a law suit, anyone knows how to get around this without playing games?
Any transunion live person phone numbers? Many thanks!
I ordered my TransUnion report today and wasted $7.95 to get my credit score.
Why wasted? Because it's a Vantage score. Their range is from 501 to 990.
I then checked my score on the WaMu/Providian card site because they say they base it on TransUnion (they also say it's a FICO score, but that's a different story, although they do show a range of 300 - 850).
TU Vantage: 937 TU WaMu "FICO": 839
(No, I'm not boasting, just showing how useless the paid score is.)
I tried to order a free credit report through Equifax. However, when I click the link "View and Print Your Online Report", the site ask me to log in. But I don't have a user id and password with them. How can i see my report?
