markkundinger said:Also, I got an email from HSBC with a link to check application status. Good news: I got accepted. Bad news: It's a $2k credit limit. With the associated BT fee, this doesn't even make it worthwhile to do anything with.
So if I were to view this as a "beach head" into HSBC, anyone have an idea of how I can parlay this card into a decent credit limit or a no-fee BT? (same card, add'l cards?)
I got the GM Card a few years back (in 2002 it was Household bank, now owned by HSBC). CL was really low to begin with (2.5K), and even with heavy use at times the auto-CLI were only $1k at a time about every 6 months. |

Hmm, after the dust settles for this, maybe I should consider applying for a regular HSBC card, and merging them. |

Yeah HSBC gave me a $600 limit which gave me a good laugh. I figure next time around I'll ask for a CLI and see where it gets me. |

Thanks for your detailed post. I am watching eagerly to see what outcome you have, but so far it looks favorable.
How much have you received so far in bonus offers? I think that would be nice to have a running tally on, since that is your desired outcome, right? |

Yep, I'm going to tally the offers and I'm not counting them until I actually receive them. Therefore, it could be a damn long time. Just the $100 from Fidelity so far, which I've already lost in emerging markets |

Huh. Just got a call from a woman at Discover. Wanted to verify a few things:
- That I wanted a new card, when I had one I hadn't used since 2003. (teehee) - Generic personal info - A landline phone number
Then when we were winding up, she said "we'll be sending you your card within 7-10 days", to which I responded "oh wait, was I already accepted?", and she said, "uh, no, not quite yet... what credit limit were you looking for anyway?". I said "uh.. I'd like to match my current card ($8k)." What should I have answered, "as big as I can get?".
Oh, and my updated FAKOs after the inquiries: TU 774, EXP 779, EQU 760
The ding to credit score for inquiries sure seems tiny. Not to say that a credit card issuer might not get alarmed at a rapid increase in inquiries.
... no credit pull from RBS, I think I'll try to call them tomorrow, see if they're alive.
EDIT:
Then I decided to call MBNA on a lark to check on application status, since that's all the rage for the NY Jets Ipod card. Both apps (Jets and Fidelity) were approved for CL's of $5k each. Kind of slick they did that on one credit pull. woot.
Also: J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets! |

Huh, interesting, I just called RBS to check on the app status (called their application number), and the analyst person asked me if I had applied multiple times. I guess the two blown-up internet applications were still in their system. Anyway, I'm only applying once now, but the application is still pending.
I'm wondering if I should call Citi. One one side, with only one credrep pull, I wonder if the other apps are really being processed. On the other hand, I don't know if I want to encourage a human being to look at 4 simultaneous apps. |

Hello. I stumbled on this discussion and was intrigued.
I have a couple of questions that I am hoping someone can respond to.
1 - mbaker4096 mentioned an Account Aggregation Service to keep tabs on multiple accounts -- I am not familiar with such services. Who/ What/ Where? Please clarify as I am sure this would make my life easier.
2 - It seems like you guys are forever checking your credit report. How can you without being subject to the fees?
Thanks again.

1: Yodlee, search for the discussion on this forum 2: You buy a service which for a fee (monthly, yearly, etc) lets you check your credit score as often as you want. |

1) Account aggregation can be found by a variety of methods. Personally, I have a copy of Microsoft Money which does pretty good. But it's also offered as a service by other places. Bank of America, Netbank, and Fidelity come to mind. Most or all of these actually outsource to Yodlee.
2) I signed up for a 7 day trial with privacymatters123.com. I'm actually going to cancel it... right now. Last snapshot of credit scores is:
TU 774, EXP 751, EQU 760
(The Experian tankage seem to be because the two newly accepted MBNA accounts were already being reported. That was quick!)
3) I cleverly linked to the $15 BofA transfer bonus in my original post: BofA autotransfer checking -> savings for $15 |

Green for you OP for a detailed write-up and follow-up posts. I'm waiting to hear about your Citi apps, as I was under the impression that Citi only allows 2 apps per 60 day period. I could be mistaken, but I think I read that on www.creditboards.com. |

Well, this gets curioser and curioser: Got two letters in the mail today. One was from Chase asking for a utility bill to verify my address. The other was from Citi wanting to me call to "provide the card that best suits my needs". Both had phone numbers that were already done for the day (blasted pacific time zone).
I have no idea which citi cards the postcard was about, but the phone number message was their business card department. Then, I called up the number for the Chase Sony card, and the rep said I had only one application pending, but couldn't tell me which card it was for.
Guess I'll make some calls in the morning.
Ironically, I also got a mailer from Wells Fargo for a CC with a no-fee 0% 9-month BT |

Hey markkundinger, Did you get the $25 and $75 BOFA bonuses online? I wanted to go to the local bank to open up these accounts but I don't want to miss out on the bonuses. Is there a code or something or is it just for everyone who opens one up? Thanks. |

I haven't received any bank bonuses yet (will probably have to wait a month or two), but I think the easiest current way to scam BofA would be this thread., although I haven't tried it. |

Okay, I called up Chase, it was their "Credit Reconsider" department. Turns out all they really wanted to do was verify the address and junk for the Sony card. While asking about what kind of gas bill they wanted mailed back, the rep said that I could just verify stuff over the phone, which I did, and my application is back in the process.
Calling Citi was more interesting. The rep said she wanted to "confirm my employment status" for the Diamond Pref Reward card (the one I was already approved for?) and lead the question with if I was self-employed. Remembering the clues from this thread, I quickly claimed that I had a tiny small business of my own as well as being employed full-time. (sole proprietorship, no dba name, my own SSN). She said this qualified me for a business card instead. Then I asked if the business card could be considered in addition to the personal card, and she said "sure". The cool thing is that the business card has a 15k point bonus, and the personal car has the 10k bonus it always had. So in total, that's a crapload of TY points.
The CL on the business card will be $4700, $3700. This seems like the CL is being "split" between the two cards. Since both cards have 0% no-fee BTs, and it garners more points, I can deal with it. |

The postcard was only sent about one of the Citi cards (Diamond Pref Rewards). I believe there is a significant chance that the other apps have been lost into the wind (but you never know).
Currently I have, or know I have approved, 3 citi cards, the mtvU I got a month ago, an approved Diamond Pref, and an approved Citi Business.
I've also got one Chase "mystery app" out there, the Cash Rewards I applied for over the phone.
It will all shake out once I allow enough time to start getting mail. |
